She's funny, creative and impulsive; an artist with spray paint and advanced weapons. She's also a 16-year-old girl who happens to be flying around the universe, wreaking havoc on the Imperial army. Now you can read the private diary of Sabine Wren, the awesome new heroine of the Star Wars Rebels television series!
Wren is one of the most compelling and interesting female characters in Star Wars since Princess Leia! She's an explosives expert supreme, and a master of advanced weapons. She's also a crazy artist, gifted at graffiti and sketching. She's strong, bold, confident, cool and only 16! Get to know Sabine through her own words and artistic expression in this replica journal filled with sketches, photos of her best work, stories, doodles and her observations of her fellow rebels. In Sabine's own writing, relive events that occur during the first 10 episodes of Star Wars Rebels, plus discover details about Sabine's life and the rebel team.
The design alone would get this five stars - but the content? WAY BETTER THAN "THE SECRET JEDI"!! It actually gives you new information on the characters and it's way fun! If you have a Star Wars fan, especially a fan of Rebels, you need to get them this book to read!!
Like Ezra's journal before it, Sabine's Sketchbook is a good read to blast through in one sitting that feels pretty true to the character and how she thinks during the first season of Star Wars: Rebels. Sabine is a bit of an artist, both with paint and explosions, and that's well-represented here. There is a lot of color and drawings all over every page and it's neat to see more of Sabine's style. Author Daniel Wallace also successfully writes Sabine to sound a couple years older than Ezra in his journal -- it feels like maybe she's written a little young for her age though (sort of the opposite of how I would imagine a teenager who had to join the rebellion and grow up quick would sound), but it's in keeping with the kid-friendly tone of the show.
Overall, if you want a quick, kid-friendly read for a fan of Sabine, this is a reasonably good book to pick up.
I really loved this! Star Wars Rebels is a great show and Sabine is my favorite character so naturally I HAD to pick this one up! It was a quick read and had gorgeous pictures. What I really liked though is that besides just having beautiful pictures of Sabine and the crew, it also had a lot of her artwork. I loved how the format included little newspaper clippings that you could pull back or a poster she found and taped inside. Super interesting and I suggest you read it if you like Star Wars Rebels! Also I can’t wait to read Ezra’s Rebel Journal!
This book was the best! I absolutely adored the beautiful artwork and the story line. I think Daniel Wallace did a nice job of keeping Sabine's language similar to her own. I really enjoyed this short sketchbook and will totally read it multiple times over! I also enjoyed seeing her personal thoughts and interests that were not explained in the Star Wars Rebels tv show. It reminded me of the Ezra Bridger journal that I read a month ago. Go read this sketchbook if you love Star Wars Rebels or Sabine!
A cute way to spend half an hour, with some nice art and a few tidbits of new information. But it suffers from being a season one product. Sabine early in Rebels is a cypher, with a backstory that doesn't begin trickling out until mid-season two. That works for the show, where it's a natural outgrowth of her being a private person. But in a book that's theoretically her private diary, the lack of any reference to her origins (presumably because the writers room hadn't yet developed those origins) feels weirdly sterile.
Absolutely loved it! I enjoyed the art and having Sabine’s perspective on things. I also found out that she loves music, but I’m honestly not surprised by that. I would have given it 5 stars, but there were some areas where the author got lazy with the images. Most of the images were supposed to be taken by Sabine herself, but there’s absolutely no way she could have gotten a picture of the Ghost in hyperspace. Otherwise, it was great!
The illustrations alone deserve all the praise! I was pleasantly happy with this book and all the included information about my favorite character, Sabine.
It wasn't my favorite- getting only a second-hand copy may have contributed to my experience (it wasn't in the best quality), but I had a blast reading it! It's a book that's worth one's time if you're a fan of Star Wars Rebels, whether you're a kid or adult. Give it a go!
This book is a must-read for any Star Wars Rebels fan. My kids and I interviewed the illustrator, Annie Stoll, and asked her all about the art in the book. You can listen to that here: http://childrenoftheforce.com/2015/03.... Then go out and get the book!
