Welcome to the world of Little Battlers eXperience! In the near future, a boy named Van Yamano owns Achilles, a miniaturized robot that battles on command! But Achilles is no ordinary LBX. Hidden inside him is secret data that Van must keep out of the hands of evil at all costs!
A year has passed since the fierce battle against the New Dawn Raisers. Suddenly, every LBX around the world starts going out of control. In order to solve this baffling case, Van Yamano heads out with his new partner, Hiro, on a journey around the world!! Double LBX Tournament arc, Battle Start!!
Looking at this volume as a second season of the series helps with the odd transition the series takes. A new main character, more humor that doesn't feel funny to me, and a good number of new LBX designs and characters to meet. This new arc does expand on the world of the manga, introducing cities and interesting landmarks to help memorize chapters. Overall, its an okay volume that left me wanting for more.
This volume begins a new cycle in the series, taking place a year after the first. It isn't quite as good - Van takes on an apprentice, Hugh, who is obsessed with becoming a superhero, and his friends from the first three books are (mostly) nowhere to be seen. If the others, particularly Justin, were to join the crew, this might become a better story arc, but right now it feels tacked on and not really necessary. On the plus side, Van does look a year older, so the art is doing its job.
