I finished Damaged and I cried. Again. This book is amazing and makes you think. I loved the character development in not only Jodie but also Cathy. I feel for both Cathy and Jodie and felt their pain. A few times I felt sick to my stomach. I even almost gave up the first time I read it. I was also happy with the family relationships built with Jodie and Cathy. The only thing i disliked was the fact that the focus was mainly on Cathy and Jodie. I do wish we would have seen more of Cathy’s children and how their relationships with Jodie grew and worked. I gave it 4.5/5 stars (rounded up). TW for sexual assault and self harm.
This was the second of Kathy's books I've read. She has a quick captivating style. A most definitely British voice (which you won't notice if you're in the UK, but as an ex-pat in the USA it is very apparent.)
As a former foster child, I find her point of view a challenge at times. Kathy sees things (as she obviously would) from a foster-mother's perspective. I found myself empathizing a lot more with her foster child.
It's worth a read. Tragic story. Unfortunately far more common than we'd like to believe.
This book was very touching. Kathy shows tje good and the horrible things of life. I shed many tears. I hope all the Jodie's of the world get the understanding they need.
