So I wasn't the hugest fan of The Rogue Knight, but this one was incredible. I really, really enjoyed it. The world building for Zeropolis was really well done, and the new characters that were introduced were super interesting. I thought the ending was a little rushed, but other than that, I had no complaints! I talked to Brandon at YALL fest this year and he said the next book coming out is his favorite, so now I'm just pumped for it!!

Cole, Jace, Joe and Mira are now in Zeropolis, a kingdom whose shaping enhances technology, trying to locate Mira's sister Constance. Things quickly get tricky as Joe is arrested on their first day in this kingdom, somehow recognized for his connections with the Unseen (the resistance movement). The rest of them have to scatter and try and meet up with the Crystal Keepers, part of the Unseen to figure out how to find Constance and free Joe. They hardly get a moment to breathe though as after their arrival the police in Zeropolis suddenly become very good at finding the Unseen's secret hideouts and nowhere seems safe. Our heroes start to get desperate for help in their mission, driving Cole to take risks and go places he never dreamed of.

Mull continues to come up with new worlds that are super creative and different from anything Cole has seen yet. This was the first time he mixed in a bit of scifi into his fantasy that I've seen, and I liked it. So Mull continues to get points for creativity. On the downside, and this is perhaps because I've read a bit of Mull's work by now, I found that certain things were a bit predictable in this book. Like if any new gadgets are described or escape routes mentioned that are 'only to be used in worst case scenarios'...there's likely a worst case scenario coming up. That's why it only got 3 stars. I also figured out how the big bad robot dragon was probably going to be defeated (yep, there's a robot dragon bad guy...I'd like to reform it and make it a pet). There's a major plot twist that was not predictable at all though, so Mull still knows how to keep tricks up his sleeve. (Sorry, not telling you what it was.) Another plus is that Mull's managed to avoid falling too much into a cookie cutter overall plot structure for each of the kingdom's main events, so readers don't have to worry about knowing precisely what main things will happen in the book. You should be able to guess some if you've read the rest of the series, but not all. I also liked how Mull has started to explore a little more about the nature of the Five Kingdom's world and what holds it together in this book. Of course, now it will be ages until the next book. Hazards of reading a series as it comes out.

Notes: No language issues. No sexual content. There's some chase scenes, but the "violence" usually involves incapacitating people without really hurting them - so there's a lot of antagonism going around and running around but not many boo-boos. Well, that is until the robot dragon starts decimating the city. Then you hear that people are getting hurt but aren't given any first hand scenes or gory details except for two run-ins without any injuries other than bruises and headaches.

This third volume of the Five Kingdoms takes our heroes to Zeropolis, a land of high-tech robots and gizmos that’s ruled by a tyrant. We are looking for another princess and meet some new friends. The stakes get pretty high in this one, as we get closer to the High Shaper’s circle of villainy, and there are some interesting surprises as well. Brandon is not afraid to make kids’ books scary. It’s pretty long for MG (around 500 pages), but I continue to enjoy the series. Brandon has a highly creative brain.

Language: Clean
Sexual Content: None
Violence/Gore: Injuries, fighting; no gore

Harm to Children:

He's done it once again! I have to say though this was my favorite entry in the series so far. I think the new Kingdom, Zeropolis had a lot to do with that. The world building in Zeropolis was top notch. You can tell the author put a lot of time into this one since it dealt with a lot more technology. It's also really cool to learn about the different shaping powers each kingdom has. Which just makes this series so enjoyable and fun to read. Lastly, this entry in the series had one of the biggest WTH moments.

Finally. This is the first post-Fablehaven book by Brandon Mull that I liked as much as a Fablehaven book. The series was already my favorite non-Fablehaven series (easily better than Beyonders and Candy Shop War), but this book goes big and fun with cool powers, cool twists, confrontations that you thought were not going to happen until Book 5, rounding out of some characters--both good and bad, and an enlargement of the series in scope.

I loved some reveals of identity and meeting some characters we had only talked about, and I love that I'm still very unsure whom to trust. The plot was unafraid and fast-paced. This one broke the mold and was not a dungeon explore book like so many of his others, and this was a good thing as Mull found different ways to build tension and surprise us.

There are major conflicts, missions, and battles, and a huge resolve, but almost every character still faces unresolved problems. There are multiple levels of problems and antagonists to deal with in the next 2 books. Cole's friend Dalton is annoying and a voice of reason at the same time. The tension he keeps adding about what their goals should be is great, and I like the larger question looming of how/if they will be able to return. This was a strong point in the Beyonders series as well.

2 spoilery nitpicks: 1. The name of the book. Some of the Crystal Keepers are important characters, but it's not because they're in that group. There are much more important aspects of the story. 2. VERY spoilery here... ... The final defeat of Rosie was still too easy. I loved the solution to set the 2 big c____'s on each other, but it seems like Rosie's hyper-intelligent consciousness would have back-ups and be everywhere rather than have only one spot to destroy, kind of like Jane in the Ender series. So it was a little too easy in that regard, but I still really enjoyed this one, and I think a lot of teens will too.

The author's note was interesting too. I had noticed the torivor in Book 2 was a shared element with Beyonders, but he hints that there were other connections that I missed and that we will see more as the series progresses. I wonder if Brandon Sanderson's subtle series interactions are starting to influence others. The best news is that Mull is also starting a sequel to the Fablehaven series, with the same main characters, called Dragonwatch. I think the dragons have enough power and potential to provide a good foil, even after the near apocalypse by demons in the first series.

Honor had been restored. The magic that had been ripped away had been returned and the 1,000s that had fallen to its power had been liberated and returned to their lives. But, the cost had been so high. New friends had fallen...old friends gone to deal with the aftermath...and deals made with powers that were better left alone. But, even so, rays of hope had broken through the clouds that continued to hang over the Five Kingdoms as those thought lost have been found again. Now though, the struggle moves to the technologically advanced realm of Zeropolis where the struggle by the Unseen erupts into full scale war. And the biggest threat may not even be human!!!

This is book the third in the five book FIVE KINGDOMS series. If the first books were fun and wonderful, this book stepped up exponentially as the fight and the struggle escalates. Brandon Mull's ability to craft and create adventures that keep you in its grip and pulls you deeper into the story wanting to rush through to the end and find what happens to your favorite characters. And...isn't that what a good book and a great story is about? And Mull always gives you that in every book and every story that he spins. This series in particular is amazing as Mull is basically wrapping multiple genres up in an ever changing journey as each new book drops the reader into another genre entirely while continuing the basic story line.

So much fun...now on to book four...!!!

Book 3 of the Five Kingdoms series, The Crystal Keepers solidifies the narrative rhythm of the writing, deepens the plot, diversifies the world-building to keep things interesting, and right when the story flirts with being repetitive, introduces a surprising new character arch that I’m intrigued to see develop. Mull’s imaginative detail and theme creation, while lighthearted and fun, avoids being silly and builds a well-constructed, enjoyable story of substance.

4.5 stars and I'll round up because I really did enjoy it. It's much more sci-fi than the first two and I'm liking how each of the main characters are developing. I found the technology in this one to be quite interesting and I like how Cole influences the people around him, especially the people who knew him before. I'm having fun with this series and although I don't think I like it as much as the Fablehaven series, I'm still enjoying it! I need to take a brief break for other books, but looking forward to finishing up this series!

This book, I can't explain it. It is so good. Rick Riordan described Brandon Mull as a 'Wizard with Words'. He was spot on.

In this third book, Cole and his friends go to a whole new level, with Joe being captured and Roxie and Aeronomatron. All the new tech in Zeropolis pretty much represents the future of Earth - Warboards, Bots, Exo Rigs, Battle Suits, Levcars, Gliders. In the end when Cole meets Hunter I felt that Cole didn't react the way I think he should've reacted - more shocked and more happy. Brandon is good with the timeline, having a big action, fast - paced scene and after 55 pages going into 35 pages of talking and calm, down - to - earth scenes. I love action and adventure and this series definitely falls into these 2 categories.

I got into this book because the cover of Sky Raiders (The first book) looked like Percy Jackson, one of my all time favorite books, and after reading the blurb, and the quote from Rick Riordan, I knew that his series was the series to read. I definitely recommend this book to readers who like action, adventure, and fantasy books. Readers who ready to read a book which leaves them on the edges of the seats at all times.

It does get a bit complicated with Renderings, Seemings, Harmonic Crystals etc. But it is worth the read, trust me. The main characters are a group of friends with a bonding so strong. Also Brandon Mull has done such a good job of putting you in Cole's view that you feel like you're actually there, going to fight Enforcers, or go through the underground tunnels of Old Zerpolis.

I know my thoughts are everywhere, and that i'm going on and on, but that just goes to show how interesting this series is. I can't wait for the fourth book, coming out in January!

:O. Szacuneczek.

4.5!! Probably my favorite so far. It becomes a complete rollercoaster near the end. Little to no language. Only problems for me are that there are so many characters that it was kind of hard to keep track of them and some things happened so fast that in the audiobook I had to skip back several times. But overall super awesome and suspenseful. Would definitely recommend, but read/listen to the first two first.

Ile akcji i plot twistów.

The Crystal Keepers by Brandon Mull is a fantasy book that I thought was wrote very well and a very good book. In this book a kid named Cole who had been sucked into a world different from earth with five different kingdoms that each have a different type of magic. There he makes friends with a few other kids and they help a girl who is the princess of the king and her death was faked and her father took her powers. Eventually the get to this kingdom thats just like earth.

There they get help from a group of kids who are part of a rebellious group and get all these gadgets where they end up having to save the city from an evil computer that made herself a robotic dragon. In the end they bring her to a broken down part of town and drop a bomb on her. At the end Cole finds his brother that he forgot about since if your brought to that world everyone who knows you forgets you and the group moves on to the next kingdom.

The one lesson that could be learned in this series is probably that you should be thankful for everything you have because you could lose it any time and never get it back.

This book is incredibly amazing and incredible, I just love it. This book reminds me of my childhood favorite series "Geronimo Stilton" because they all have crazy adventures were they come across friends and fiends. In this book, the Protagonist comes across many people, some who are trying to hunt him down and kill him, and some who are trying to help him and many others. With the help of his friends, he finds more allies, friends, and even lost family members in the world he is trapped in. This book is amazing and I recommend everybody to read this series or series published by the same author.

Finished yet another audio book!

CONS OF FIVE KINGDOMS

There were a couple parts that felt a little slow because of all the explanations needed - but, overall, all the information that needed to be explained was done well, so it wasn't too bad.

Once again, we had to listen to the same-old discussion between Cole and Dalton about whether they should leave or stay. We got it the first five times, boys; you can stop doing it so often, now.

PROS OF FIVE KINGDOMS

Um the world building?? Is so cool?? I know I complained that some of the way it was introduced was slow, but once you know it, it's just really cool.

The cOVER?! It's amazing.

Sidekick was so much fun.

The climax!

OVERALL

Enjoyed yet another book of Brandon Mull's!

THIS SERIES MUST BE READ IN ORDER.

Picking up where The Rogue Knight left off, in Crystal Keepers Cole, Dalton, Mira, Jace, & Joe are headed to Zeropolis, the most technologically advanced of the five kingdoms. They're searching for Constance, Mira's sister and being helped by the Unseen. The problem is, the Unseen are under heavier attack than ever before and the High King is desperate to get his daughters back. Bringing in new allies and new villains, this is a great continuation of the Five Kingdoms series and I highly recommend it!

This book was wonderful. It was also crummy. I feel like if there had been more editing, less telling, and more specific descriptions, it would have blown me away. Still, its story is great and it held my favorite and most unexpected plot twist ever? So points to Mull. Will definitely get to book 4 soon.
