A foundational work in wellness and health coaching, Wellness Coaching For Lasting Lifestyle Change -Second Edition continues to be a leader in the field. It is the go-to book for independent coaches, health care professionals, and is often used as a text for college and university classes.
The second edition continues to provide a comprehensive methodology combining the tenets of wellness with the principles of coaching. Each chapter has something new, drawing from the additional years of experience Dr. Arloski has acquired since the publication of the original edition. He has woven this new wisdom seamlessly into the old, creating clear, easy to use best practices.
When asked what part of the new edition is most improved, Dr. Arloski points to Chapter 8: 'This chapter has been completely revised based on what we've learned training thousands and thousands of wellness coaches around the world. We are told over and over again that the Wellness Mapping 360 Methodology is what coaches find most valuable and in this new edition we've refined it much further. So many coaches just do 'goal setting' with their clients. Here we show how to really co-create a fully integrated wellness plan for lasting lifestyle change.' The positive connection between the coach and the person who wants to make a change empowers the individual to recognize and draw on his or her own abilities and resources to make lasting changes for better health. Wellness Coaching For Lasting Lifestyle Change - Second Edition is the guide you need to make that connection to your clients. All the handouts are available for purchase from the publisher as digital download PDFs. Includes forms for use with clients, wellness wheels, worksheets... all the tools you will need, ready to print at your convenience.
A fantastic resource for any wellness coach. I am new to my role and this has been invaluable to me in having effective conversations with clients. I know I will always refer back to it.
Solid information and a plethora of good resources. Most of what I saw here was a review of all the other resources I've studied for the NBC-HWC wellness coaching credential exam.
My main complaint with this second edition is it reads as a draft - in some places, 8-10 errors in a single paragraph. Case in point, on p. 216: "(???) INDICATE RESOURCE REFERRENCE" (verbatim, as it appears on the page).
I looked to see who published it, expecting this could have been a self-published book, but not only is this a second edition put out by WholePerson in Duluth, MN, there were two editors listed who worked on it. Most of the text was clean, but a few chapters slipped through.
I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I get irked when I see professional material out there that needs a good copy edit -- and it's happening more and more as the publishing industry declines. Perhaps I should put up a shingle.
This is a great book for anyone looking to go into the coaching field. A lot of different material is offered in the forms of techniques, approaches, and formats for handouts.
Reviews of important theories and some great ideas for working with clients through high stress or difficult life changes. Overall, filled with very useful tools and ideas.
