While I definitely don't recommend reading it on the Hoopla app (ugh, I hate it but I'm sad my public library is canceling Hoopla next month), I definitely got what I needed from it. Every time I wanted to see what there was to do in the general direction of my travels, I'd pop it open and see what the possibilities are. That's how I found Coral Sand Dunes, Toadstool Trail, and Meteor Crater. Yay! Perfect for my first time making stops in that general area and none of the advice lead me wrong.

A great read for someone needing a get a feel for the American Southwest - especially for those of us who have never been to the area previously. In the future, if I plan to spend more time in one specific state, I would definitely buy a state specific book also. This one really helped me out from a planning perspective.

Picking the haunted hotel in Flagstaff that the book recommended was a bit frightening. Especially when we read the history while we stayed there and foud out that we were staying in the room where two women were murdered and tossed out the window...and they now haunt the room and try to choke and suffocate any men staying in the room. Yikes!

When I travel, I like to use Lonely Planet or Rough Guides as my guides. Rough Guides are good for small areas because they are good at narrow, but deep, descriptions. Lonely Planet is good at describing a wide variety of areas that aren’t deep about these area, so would fit bigger areas.

This book covers multiple US states, so fits Lonely Planet better. You don’t get huge detail, but you get a lot of choice (about what to do) in any area you visit.

This book was great for our utah trip. Also used it in AZ and NM. Only S Co so that didn't help us, and we didn't go to NV. Gave us some ideas for side trips like Corona Arch hike.
