Spring has arrived at Sugar Hill Farm. Big sister Audrey is busy helping Dad as he makes maple syrup. Younger sister Kate also wants to contribute but it seems that she is just too little. Will she find a way to do her part?
Its okay. I wish this book came with end notes about the syrup making process, or the science behind it, or a recipe using maple syrup... something! The story starts but doesn't really go anywhere.
A young girl, Kate, wants to help make maple syrup. But she’s too little to jump over the stream by herself, too little to carry the heavy pails of sap, and too little to chop the firewood. Finally it turns out that there IS something she can do, a perfect job just for her. Kids who have never made taffy or maple syrup before might find this story interesting and kids who do participate in this activity might relate to the story.
Kate wants to help her dad and her older sister make maple syrup, but she is too small yet. She tries anyway, but everything she does goes wrong, until it's time to make taffy. Good illustrations for a fun and education read.
A cute and quick read. A bit of a random climax/plot. Not the best book to learn lots of maple syrup taffy, but you get the very bare bones basics of it.
