This is not a book to teach you about love or how to get a beautiful girl to bed, rather it reveals how bad things can get if you don't set your priorities right. It's a story about the most explored life aspect ' Love' 'Sex'.
YUVI, a pleasure seeking boy, falls victim to the same notorious life facet called love. Simran's beauty sweeps him off from his feet and he leaves no stone unturned to seek her special attention.
As he falls in love, he also sleeps around with all the erroneous girls, and when his fate threatens to take his love down, he promises himself to stop all of this and come out of the wreckage … But then, his past deeds come back to his present, and that tears his life apart. What follows is an uneasy course of getting his love back on board.
The story reveals the life of today's youth, their friendships, feelings, priorities, and ineptitude to handle relationships while not forgetting their turmoil between the two critical facets of life: LOVE & SEX.
Love makes the world go round … Or is it Sex? Based on real life experiences and tea time gossips.
This book honestly sucks. The kind of language used in this book is terrible (And I don’t just mean the English), the characters mindset (men) in the book is like the rapists that you hear in news on a daily basis in India! It is the story of Infidelity & karma.Period.I don’t think there is any justification for Infidelity. After you read a few pages you can tell that this could be the work of any pervert teenager or a wannabe Chetan bhagat! I would have thrown away the book after I read a few pages but I was trying to form a habit to read more and I randomly picked it from my shelf.I didn’t want to break my habit and finished reading it but I regret this decision.Seriously no one wants to know the story of the sexual exploits of a guy who is responsible for sending a girl to rehab.I think this book could be even bad for society! This book can make girls or anyone hate Indian men! If you feel only lust whenever you see any pretty girl, then there is something seriously wrong with you and you need to go counselling!
P.S- I mean all the harshness above for the main lead character in your book! Thanks for the hand written message. That’s the only part I liked in your book.
Typical testosterone filled writing comprising loads and loads of sex and booze.
The book ain't bad but it needs a lot of reworking. Loads of errors in sentence formation and grammatical errors. Also, I often noticed that there seemed to be a word-to-word translation from a vernacular language to English making it all the more erred.
Doesn't live up to the expectations that the cover page and blurb give rise to.
The 2 stars I am giving this book are for - First, the concept of dividing the book according to the colours of a rainbow and thinking up such a theme. Second, for an ending that I liked but goes against the current trend.
Other than that this book had very little to offer... Stereotyped characters who lack any growth and a plot that lacks depth. To top that - terrible editing!
You are the sun and I am the rain. Together we will make Rainbows.
‘Rainbow: The Shades of Love’ is a debut book by Aman Jassal. It is about a boy Yuvi (a pleasure seeking boy) who falls in love with Simran. However, falling in love does not stop him to sleep around with all the erroneous girls. Soon Yuvi realises that he has been doing a terrible mistake. He starts feeling guilty, the feeling of having done something terrible. He promises himself to stop all this and be faithful to Simran. But then, life is not so simple. Is it? His past deeds come back to his present and start hunting him. So, what happens when Simran comes to know about Yuvi’s duplicitous nature? Does the relation between Simran and Yuvi continue? These are some parts I think you should know by reading the book.
The novel tries to raise the old question once again: Is it love which makes the world go round or is it sex? This question has already been dealt a number of times by different author in different ways. This book presents one of such views. So, what is new in this book? Well! To be frank, there is nothing that we can say different. However, reading this book does not disappoint you. There is certain freshness in the approach the story has been dealt with. The book is basically written with a youngster’s point of view and will certainly appeal to that age group. In general, the author has done a decent job. He has not over exposed any one character and the storyline is balanced giving justice to each character. The book is fast paced and has been written in simple language. While the climax was a bit predictable, the story ends well. The author beautifully made us comprehend what real and pure love is and how the main character was able to understand it. When I finished reading this book, I wondered how other readers would react to this ending. I refrained myself judging it. However, I do understand that many people will.
We find the use of non-English words in many places in the storyline which could have been avoided. Likewise, the title doesn’t do justice to the novel. The motif of rainbow could have been skilfully integrated throughout the book. I feel that there was ample scope to do that. The only place where the motif of rainbow is dexterously worked is the last chapter and it reads really well.
It is not a book which leaves a long lasting impression; neither it is an insightful read. But, surely it is a pleasant and enjoyable read. Much better than some of Chetan Bhagat’s books. The book keeps you absorbed without letting you put it down without completing.
(I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.)
First of all, I'd like to thank Aman for providing me with the giveaway copy.
The book is written with a light-mooded blend with more of a youngster's point of view. The approach is kind of that of guy from late teens / early twenties. The same theme of the story can be revisited with a mature understanding of love and intimacy (as maybe idea for the next book).
The pace of story on the start is slow but soon it picks up interestingly after a while making the reader to turn pages. The storyline is based on a very discussable topic; should intimacy go hand in hand with love or both of it can be separated with a well defined boundary. Well of course different people would be having their own opinion towards it. A lot more intricate plot could be constructed upon the same topic; but considering the fact that this is the author's first book, his effort is appreciated.
The book is short one, a quick read, although it could have been longer. The writing is apparently good. Overall a nice book form Aman Jassal!
Wish you the best for your future writings and looking forward to see your next book emerging. :D
This is a debut book by Aman Jassal, where the protagonist falls in love with Simran, but is continually unfaithful to her.
Let me start off the review with what I liked about this book:
I liked the way the book ended, I would have been disappointed if it had ended any other way. I believe in the end Simran took the right decision. Unlike other authors, he chooses to give a realistic ending to the story than going for a fictional romanticized one.
The PG setting brought back some fun memories of my PG days.
I got this book long back from the author himself. I could only finish reading the first 25 pages. I have read some terrible books and still managed to finish them off, but I couldn't finish this one; in fact, I left it in the beginning itself.
First of all, I'm not a grammar nazi and I can understand that finding an editor is a challenging task especially if you are low on budget. I have been there. However, the sentences are so poorly structured that you can't read without cringing.
More than that, I hated the lewd mentality and language used in the book. I mean all I read in those pages is bra, boobs, ass, sex and booze.
Please get your books beta read by people before publishing. I usually encourage people to write and ignore many mistakes, but this was unbearable.
This is the full review as written on my blog at From Tangasseri To The World: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Let me start off by saying a big 'Thank You' to Mr. Aman Jassal for asking me to write a review about his debut work and for sending me a signed copy. I haven't blogged anything new in almost a year. Your request through Goodreads asking me to write a review on my blog was unexpected and I was reminded of something that I love to do, but slowly, over time forgot about. Thanks again for the motivation. Now lets get to the review part.
Rainbow- Shades of Love by Aman Jassal. This is the author's first book and is published by Teenage Publishers priced at 150 rupees .The synopsis of the novel is as follows : _____________________________________ This is not a book to teach you about love or how to get a beautiful girl to bed, rather it reveals how bad things can get if you don't set your priorities right. Too much details for a synopsis if you ask me. Could have trimmed it a bit and left out some details like his life getting torn apart. As written in the synopsis the main characters are Yuvi and the love of his life Simran, who happens to live right across his PG and by sheer coincidence also happens to be so damn beautiful. (What an opportunity!! The universe seems to plotting for you Mr.Yuvi). Its narrated as a flashback. Yuvi is an experienced Casanova kinda guy. He is well versed in the various techniques to get ladies. But for the first time, he feels something different, an he falls for this girl, Simran. He lies to her from the very beginning and doesn't come clean at all. The lies keep on piling like back-papers in B.Tech. Amidst this he has the nerve to sleep with two other women and cheat on Simran. The author has tried to imply that Yuvi succumbed to the advances of the other two women rather than acting on his own accord, but thats not how I felt while reading. Its not that he forgot about Simran before jumping into bed with them, rather he remembered his love for her on both occasions before nailing the coffin shut on his relationship. How appalling! And we are supposed to feel sorry for such a guy? Sheesh!! Give me a break!
Things go south with Simran (as expected) and he finds himself in a crisis. The characters in this novel are kind of hollow. They dont leave a lasting impression on our minds, especially Simran. She is boring, annoying and to put it plainly I didn't like her at all. To me it felt like just another story, with all the familiar recipes found in today's Indian books - hero, heroine, friends, love, trust, betrayal , blah, blah ...blah!! There is little or no character development.
The story is simple and doesn't go in to explore the theme which is, to quote the author : "...the most explored life aspect 'Love' 'Sex'." One other thing that I found amiss was the title. It says rainbow and shades of love, but the story doesn't do justice to the title, or rather should I say the title doesn't do justice to the story? I am confused. I read the book, but that's just it, it's bland and feels somewhat hastily written.
However, considering that this is Aman's first book, I commend and congratulate him on the effort. Everyone has to start off somewhere. I hope to see more works of his and better ones at that. All the best.
‘Rainbow – the shades of love’ is the first literary work of Aman Jassal. This book is a light read and is written in a youth’s perspective. The famous unanswered question was raised again in this book, is it love that keeps a relationship going or is it sex?
The cover design is ordinary and simple. The readers might ignore this book for its not-so-glorious cover among the n numbers gorgeous covers in this genre. The name sounds good but doesn’t go with the story. Though the author had tried to resonate the name at the end of the story but that is not enough and I would say there was lot more scope to do the same. The back blurb was not that exciting too and one can put the book after reading that. In short, the first impression of the book was not impressive.
The story is about a guy, Yuvi, a stud and an efficient flirt, who can score on every given chance. After his numerous flings and night stands, Yuvi falls for Simran, and the story goes on like that. Even after committing in the relationship with Simran, Yuvi doesn’t stop scoring and sleeps with every girl who gives him a chance from Simran’s cousin to his boss’s wife. After realizing the mistake and being pushed by the guilt inside it Yuvi decided to confess his past to Simran when the story takes a drastic turn and Yuvi has to face the wrath. To know what happens next, one should read the story.
The likable part of the story is the realistic characters. The author hasn’t tried to make them artistic and the mistakes they made or the way those characters converses are very much relatable. I would like to mention those chats while drinking is very much common among boys and would definitely attract youths. But the book lacks the surprise element. The end was good but predictable. The narrating style of the book is simple and very much in the trend. The simple usage of words and the nice description of scenes can drag the reader’s attention. The contradiction in the protagonist’s head is also shown in a similar efficient manner. Though there are few scenes where the author had the scope to create the magic with his narrating style which was missing and the scenes became dull. I feel the story line was good but can be framed and told in a better way.
A better edited version of the book will surely hook more readers. I would suggest the author to concentrate more on framing the story and the editing errors to make the novel presentable to the readers. I would recommend this book to those who can try their luck with a not so different light read.
Final Words: The realistic characterization and the simple narrating style gives the book a fresh feel. I appreciate the author for the attempt to convey a credible storyline with an unusual ending.
The memory of Yuvi fades as the last page of the book turns; Yuvi, the hero of many Girl Friends is broke, still breaking.Priyanka falls for him. Anita is drawn towards his magnetic field. These are easy conquests. Simran is the one for whom he strives to conquer. But his lies, betrayals ,and falsehood catch up with him. It was time he tasted the bitter bile his misdeeds produced. In the quagmire of Yuvi's behind-the-back misdeeds and Simran's foolhardiness both are sinking. 1)But why do all these GFs fall for him? Yuvi has never cared to tell this. The reader does not know if he is tall and handsome, white-skinned or athletic, though all his GFs are beautiful or have attractive body. Instead he speaks of his 'tiny self' while accommodating himself in the Almirah to avoid detection by Rinky in her sister's very bed.2)Yuvi has been chased and beaten by Simran's brother.A near-Bollywood drama.Soon (one wonders!) that obstruction vanishes, is withdrawn. In a country of many honor-killings, it is unconvincing. And again, this confuses the reader and weakens the plot.A real hero confronts the obstacle. 3)Yuvi's repentance over one misdeed and committing another misdeed to repent yet again appears freakish.Only his pining over break up with Simran appears genuine.4)Finally,the many errors, slips, and mistakes do not speak well of this publisher or Indian publishing industry in general. These are avoidable; inexcusable. I award this book, which I enjoyed reading, three stars. This was a giveaway award to me.
I was given a signed copy of the book by the author - Thanks Aman :)
Now onto the book, the book as most of the books coming in India is a love story yet it's not like other love stories. The story is about Yuvi who falls in love the most wonderful girl but still unable to shake the grip of lust whenever he gets chance with others and ultimately this catches up with him or does it. It's a really nice book with great end. All the best to Aman for future books. This is the very first review copy which I started reading almost immediately and finished in just 2 sittings. I am sure you would love it too.
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
A contemporary romantic novel that will be cause for gossip among young girlfriends on the bus or subway, the book is a nice way to confront feelings stopped on paper but real and present more than ever, leaving an indelible mark in the heart, and offers us the lessons of life with young readers will recognize the intense moods of the characters resulting from the pen of this author.
The narrative is so intense and relentless that you cannot close it until it arrives at the epilogue, with an unexpected tenderness for a story so restless which has outlined the characters really hard to forget, managing to reverberate on the player moods and sexual tension with a tenderness and a disarming naturalness, wrapping us in a welter of feelings really intense.
The author has managed to pack a novel for an age really wide, a young romance hued sometimes strong but now not so much of a life away from us and has fully complied with the canons of the genre, telling a story intense and tormented, full of contradictions of a character typical of the age of its vivid characters.
The book talks of love and sex wondering if they can be an alternate for each other through the hero Yuvi and his love story. He falls for a girl called Simran, his neighbour and then he himself complicates his love story. The story is straightforward enough and goes on a pretty predictable route. Girl meets boy and falls in love but then he cannot get out of his bad habits or rather easy ways. It is very relevant for the youth of today as many succumb to such pitfalls. The author mentions that the book is out of his experiences and tales from his friends so it does read like a story of a misspent youth. Love and sex are the dominant theme of the book but not the only thing. The emotions and situations are well expressed in the book. The characters are well fleshed out and you are sure to find some of them in their friend circle. The author needs to work on his sentence construction making it frustrating to read as the story is engaging. The book needs a bit of editing making it sharper. Tighter narration and polished language could make it a delight to read. Hope fully the author will get his act together by his next book and so will the publisher.
I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Thank you Aman Jassal for the review copy. As you truly believe, a book indeed begins its journey from its reader. Being a debut work, Rainbow - the shades of love is a good read. It felt like a typical love story in the Indian context, with a stud guy falling in love with the perfect lady and the hurdles they face then on. Most of the plot is predictable except probably for the climax, where it seemed to end abruptly. I so dearly wished this couldn't be the end of it; though it is for the author to decide. More focus is on the physical relationship and adultery in love, which makes the story different. The author tries to bring in his version of love which though feels fresh, yet is not unique; same genre can be found in countless other works. I would like to wish Aman Jassal all the best with his debut work and wait eagerly for great works ahead.
I totally enjoyed the book. It was a good break from all the intense and tragic love stories which most of the engineering students are penning down nowadays.
I don't know how many girls would actually like this book but I think you should all read it as it talks about guy's perspective and how they actually deal with this love and lust. The book will give you a little sneak peek into their lives and their thinking process.. May be I enjoyed this book more because this book is written by a male but yet he didn't shy away from taking the blame for failure of relationship. I especially enjoyed the character of Kulli, though he is hideous but he did make me laugh. I felt back I was back in college and was listening to my male friends stories. I am happy your story got published, other wise we would have missed a good book.
I think Aman knew that we would be giving lots of 'gaalis' to guys at the end of the book and that's why he dedicated the books to the fairer sex.
First of all, a big thanks to Aman for letting me review his debut work. The note on the front page was a nice touch.
The book is all about the shenanigans of Yuvi, a happy go lucky youngster. The gamut of emotions he goes through are probably experienced by most of the young guys these days. The downsides is that the market is flooded with books of this genre and it is really very hard to carve out a niche for yourself.
Poor editing lets the book down. Grammatical errors are strewn all over the place. Teenage Publishers will do well to look into their book editing process.
All in all, the book is a light read and provides a few laughs. I would suggest that people pick this up during a journey when reading heavy prose proves to be a challenge. It is not a literary marvel and I am quite sure that it was not written with the intention of being one. Parts of the book did remind me of my booze-laden undergraduate years and brought a sheepish smile on my face. Good times.
All the best to Aman for his future works. You have made a start, now just keep getting better.
A lot more is needed than just a story to make it happen
So what is love and Is love and sex the same thing. What is Lust and how is that a part of the growing teenagers life. How differently male and female brain works when it comes to LOVE and SEX. What can happen to you, incase you do not differentiate between the two. What is the justified end for a life dedicated and dictated by you know what. Rainbow is a story of a cluttered thoughts and a definitive end.
Unfortunately, RAINBOW seems like an early draft that has not been edited enough. Having a good story to tell and telling a great story are two different sides. There is additional skills involved, which the author lacks. The book is ok in patches but we all know that as a reader we are seeking a complete experience.
Till the 80% of the i was determined to give 1 or 2 star to this book. The first half story is so flat and so much common that you will find the same in almost all such types of Indian writings. But the way the story changed at the end really make me feel good. Because upto that I was thinking that I am just wasting my time with another stereotype love story which only contained adultery. But the end of the story is superb. I don't remember when I last read a book where the protagonist looses a girl just for sake of adultery, that too finished in such a great manner. So i Changed my mind to give it 3 star at least..
Thank you Aman Jassal for writing a common story with an uncommon ending. and thanks for sending me the copy of the book via goodreads also. I liked your book bro. Hope to read more from you soon.
thank you aman for provding me a copy of your book, it is a nice book. i appreciate your effort for writing such a wonderful story which i am sure will inspire everyone. I loved the way you have distributed the story into various parts, synchronising each part with the meaning of the colors of a rainbow. although some scenes are hard to digest and in the end the story moves very fast but a satisfactory end, which i have not expected. i suggest all youngsters to read this and understand the definition of love and the circumstances you will find youself in, when you cheat with your love.
Rainbow is based on the concept of binding to the loved ones, though there are barriers like lust to throw away the love and the consequences if one cannot control their lust. The complete story is a rollback memory of the hero about Simran in his life. The lead role being an expert in flirting and also having good track of dealing with any sort of girl, challenges with his friend to make his neighbor girl fall in love with him and the story reveals whether he succeeded in the challenge or not. A wonderful book to be read at one go, with crisp short sentences and cheesy language which helps u stick with it till the end for sure. The details were crispy and character potrayed brought out the true humor... Simran's vulnerable character & Yuvi's stud nature is well written. Amazing storyline but still it could have been improved! But considering its the first book by the author small mistakes can be omitted.
it’s a good book with a nice blend of humour, pain and romance. This book is suitable for new readers and chick lit readers. If you are looking for a light hearted book with a strong message try this book. Read this book for its impressive climax.
Finished the book couple of days back. Its really really wonderful. It was fun, Romantic, Fast paced, and interesting to read. The story is based in Ludhiana, and that really interests me. Characters are interesting specially ' Kuli'. There are numerous scenes which will make you laugh. I will definitely recommend it to all.
Love and Sex are the hot favorite topics of today’s generation. And this book is dealing with both of them.I love the honesty, with which the each love making scene has been written in this book; can read it again and again. A sure buy for those who love intimate romance stories!!!
When I started reading this book, my expectations are very high with the book because of the blurb at the back of the cover. And I must say, the author did full justice to the title and its description. Rally well written, fast paced and intriguing. Just loved it.
All in all it's a nice read with romance, sex, emotions and a tinge of comedy thrown in. It's a bit slow in the beginning but gains pace as the story progresses.
