Left alone to ponder the purpose of her existence and desperate for answers, Xion journeys alone to find out who--or what--she really is. But little do she, Roxas, and Axel know that her quest will lead to the close of one tale and the continuation of another...
Shiro Amano (天野 シロ, born January 4, 1976) is a Japanese manga artist who has worked on several projects, including his adaptation on the popular Kingdom Hearts series.
In this volume, friendships are pushed to the limit when Xion leaves the organization and Axel is tasked with bringing her back in. Roxas is suspicious of Axel, finally realizing that there are things that everyone (including Axel and Xion) are hiding from him.
I think this has been my favorite volume so far because we finally see the breaking point of Roxas as he continually grows frustrated with all the lies he's being told. In the first several volumes, Roxas basically is a puppet for the organization. He does what he's told without question, and he does it cheerfully, with his friends by his side. By this volume, he's starting to see that the organization isn't quite what he thought it was and he's starting to have doubts. He's confused and angry, but still hopeful, and loving his friends, which is quintessential to his character.
I also loved seeing Riku as much as we did in this volume. In the video games, Riku was never one of my faves, but I feel like we see a different side of him in this one, which I absolutely loved (I could also just be remembering his character in the first game - thinking about it now, I think I liked him better in other games, we just didn't see as much of him).
I still recommend the Kingdom Hearts manga, and I am excited to finish up this series with the last volume tonight!
More sombre, this one. we start to see more of what both sides are fighting over and what they will do to get it. The kids are just pawns, and get treated like they are expendable... Has some details that aren't included in the game which helps with filling in some gaps.
2) English Review This volume was better than the third, mainly because it is more about Roxas again and especially about Xion and her development. It was nice to see her fighting for her identity and in which conflict between friendship and obedience Axel is. Unfortunately, I must also say that this volume was not particularly memorable, and especially the scenes in Neverland were quite unnecessary. The Greek ones at least made Roxas more powerful but they were not really necessary either. Another problem of this band and the series is how the members of the organization are represented; especially Xaldin is more like a clown than the dark and dangerous man in Kingdom Hearts II. And these in my mind bad decisions regarding the characters and history make this merely a book that is Ok.
Oh Demyx, you're such a dweeb. *lol* But I love you anyway.
Like I said in previous reviews, I love how this series manages to combine humor with the actually pretty grim subject matter of 358/2 Days' storyline. We're really getting into that, now, and it's some rough stuff. Poor little Xion and Roxas! *wibble* And OH MY GOSH, XEMNAS. That ending scene was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen! o_O Good grief! He is so fantastically hateable. I wanna replay KH2, now, just so I can beat the tar out of him.
As a closing note, oh man: not only has this series made me have sympathy for Axel, now the bonus comic at the end of this volume has made me feel sad for a DUSK. ;_; THE FEELS.
The 4th volume has a nice pace and really helps to continue the story developed in the first three volumes. I'm long forward to continuing with volume 5!
I accidentally bought the hardback version of this volume without knowing it... I think I'll keep it! Maybe build a collection of all the hardbacks? Or maybe I'll soon get bored of it. Who knows. Anyway! The first chapter in this volume did not win me over. Still too much Disney. But that's okay, it had a good moral to the story and all, and it didn't last longer than a chapter this time, thank goodness. This volume was good. There were lots of easter eggs to the second game and I enjoyed reading all this. A lot of story progression and oh, to speak the obvious, Roxas is now confirmed to be Sora's Nobody. But here's the kicker. I thought Sora just had two Nobody's or something, right? Wrong! Xion is Roxas' Nobody. Yeah. You read that right. A Nobody was able to have a Nobody because he started gaining sentiment as he regained some of Sora's memories. Additionally, it's still unclear how having one or two Nobodies is supposed to help Sora regain his memories but they DID state that Sora's memories were scattered all over the worlds, and by anyone who knows of Organization XIII, it is widely known that they travel to any world. And thusly, I theorize that the plan is for Roxas to do what a Nobody in the Organization does and travel from world to world. As he does so, he'll regain Sora's memories, collecting the scattered memories (Tsubasa and the scattered memory feathers, anyone?). Xion was an unlikely pleasant surprise. I assume she's helping speed the process along, given they haven't disposed of her. However... They make it seem as though her very existence or regaining of memories as well is actually a roadblock for awakening Sora. Perhaps they're simply trying to find a way around having to dispose of her? Oh, yes. And we also find out that Axel's real name was Lea and Saix's real name was Isa. Rather, they're the Nobodies of these two people, who were best friends who, as Nobodies, eventually find themselves siding on opposites ends of the battlefield. They remember each other too. Quite sad. They likely have a lot of meaningful and happy memories together. It must be why they trust each other the most and seem to know each other's mannerisms and expressions and anticipated actions so well. Oh, yes. And after this volume I have a newfound soft spot for Demyx. Albeit small, but it's there. Well... Actually just about all of the remaining members of Organization XIII, but mostly Demyx. Axel too, I grow more attached to him with every volume now it seems. And as for Xemnas... He is the Nobody of Terra-Xehanohart, the version of Xehanohart that forced his heart into Terra and became the human flesh embodiment of both Ansem and Xehanohart. However, Xemnas is no less powerful than Terra-Xehanohart.
Oh, and the very short story about the Dusk who secretly admired Xion... That was sweet but also kinda sad, because I think him leaving her the Shion flowers which meant "I'll never forget you" in the language of flowers was his way of saying goodbye because he knew he was going off on a mission to his death. How sad... And gee, he was so romantic. Maybe it was Marluxia, huh? No wait, he's just narcissistic.

I'm kind of surprised how much I liked the manga adaptations of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, especially since the actual game was sort of a miss for me. I found the the pacing of the game glacial and the feeling of the Org XIII Headquarters very bleak. However, the manga goes along steadily and the interaction between the Organization members is really entertaining.
It seems like the strange humor that occurs in the previous mangas (KH1, Chain of Memories, and KH2) is better managed. I never really understood why people liked the nobodies of Organization XIII so much. From playing the games, I just couldn't relate or sympathize with any of them, but Roxas and Axel. However, I legitimately liked a few of the members by the end of this manga series. Reading 358/2 before I read the KH2 manga series paid unexpected dividends, because I was able to enjoy the humorous interactions between Sora and the Org XIII members so much more.
By the way, can anyone confirm that Demyx is the Org XIII member that gets blasted by the Claymore system in the 2nd KH2 manga? Because that would have been even more HILARIOUS than it already was if true.
Anyway, there's a good improvement in the overall quality of this manga adaptation. The art is consistently good. The story is well managed, even with the extras thrown in. I really get a sense of Roxas, Axel, and Xion's "feelings" throughout. I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone who wants greater insight into the characters and story line between KH1 and KH2.
Wow, I'm surprised that I haven't written a review for this one yet. One of the best books in the series. I like/dislike how they added the part where Riku and Roxas meet in Twilight Town. I mean it's funny and all, but when the officially meet, it's a fight to the death, and here they are, arguing about ice cream, of all things?! For that I have two things to say. First, Anyone who knows anything about the Riku/Roxas fight knows that Riku wants to take(to put it EXTREMELY LIGHTLY) Roxas to his evil overlord, not to casually chat with him about "Is the ice cream any good," or, "I know where your missing bestie is," stuff that only people like Riku and DiZ could say roodly. Second, REALLY, RIKU!? WHY BRING UP THE ICE CREAM?! YOU DON'T EVEN DESERVE TO KNOW OF IT'S EXISTENCE, YOU VILE FIEND! To end, DiZ says something in this volume that infuriates me. (Well, it may not be this volume, but I'm still gonna say it.) With Namine, darling Namine right next to him, he says that nobodys are despicable creatures! Doesn't that just make you wanna scream or like getta punching bag with his face on it? Roxas+Namine. Read KH2. You'll understand.
After helping Peter Pan save Neverland, Roxas hopes things with him, Axel and Xion can continue as they are, until she vanishes in search of answers to her existence and is seen with the Imposter - and if Roxas can't find out why she left, Axel will be forced to bring her back...by force. Amano delivers a great blend of humour and emotion with another entertaining entry, brimming with charm on all fronts for fans to easily devour. Where did Xion truly come from, and can she figure out her purpose before Saix and the others catch up?
Demynx - damn I laugh so hard because of him at the Olympus, Hercules beat him in the end n demynx got hurt. Roxas n demnyx fight with weapons against each other but demnyx faking his hurt but then saix show up with his expression n beat demnyx in the end.Xion finally back to Sora's memories n Roxas argue with axel because of xion.I feel bad for axel tried to save his best best friend xion n Roxas.Axel will probably find Roxas in twilight town.

Gosh, all the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days have been pretty good, but I couldn’t put this one down. I literally read it in two hours! It’s the second to last volume of this portion of the story and it’s already getting quite emotional. I’m really intrigued, but also really nervous, about the end to come...
More like a 3.5 out of 5 stars personally I feel like there was not a lot of action, however the art style brightens my day it is one of my all time favorite art styles and I loved the friendships between Roxas and Axel. I can’t wait to read the next vol.
Riku has a much bigger role in this version of the story, and I kinda like it! The Neverland plot gets wrapped up in a satisfying way, and things are all starting to come together as we head toward the finale. SHIZ BE GETTIN’ REAL.
Best one yet! I loved this volume so much! Demyx was hilarious as was Saix of all characters. We are getting into the deeper and more emotional parts of the story and the balance between humor and drama was perfect. I can't wait for the finale! This series has stamped itself as the best manga for the games so far. Bravo.
