Due to my experience playing the Kingdom Hearts video games, I knew how this series was going to end, but I still felt the manga did such a great job telling the story (in fact, I think the manga for 358/2 Days might just be better than the game itself).

This volume wraps up the 358/2 Days storyline, and I think it does such a great job of sticking to the story, but allowing so much room for emotion and growth. Roxas especially grows a tremendous amount in this one volume, and I also love seeing the depth of Xion and Axel's characters as well.

I always found Roxas's story to be so tragic, a nobody (this is actually the term that is used) without a heart who isn't supposed to be able to feel anything, except Roxas feels so much. While he technically doesn't have a heart, it's impossible to believe because he suffers so much, especially in this volume, and yet he doesn't waver in his strengths and fights til the end.

One of my favorite things about Kingdom Hearts (overall) is the huge focus on friendship. Sora, Riku, and Kairi (as well as Sora, Donald, and Goofy), Roxas, Axel, and Xion, and Ventus, Aqua, and Terra. These sets of friends are so incredible, and the series puts so much focus on nonromantic love, and it's awesome. Each set of friends cares SO much for each other, and I just love it.

One thing that makes me incredibly sad over the entire Kingdom Hearts manga is the omission of Halloweentown as one of the worlds that they visit. This world, which is in most of the games, is one of my favorites in the game, so the omission is sad to me (but obviously not too sad as I still gave the series a 5 star review).

Recommended for fans of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Roxas' story always gets me, just like it did when I played the video game.

Wow. The ending was so much more dramatic, I thought, than it was in the original game. Could be just me, though.

Ultimately, I think the manga was preferable to the game. It fleshed out the story elements that felt somewhat ignored or added as an afterthought to missions in the game. And it has done something I never thought possible after beating the game: Made me truly like Xion and wish to see her more in future installments.

Even if you've played the game, this is worth a read. So much has been fleshed out and improved upon.

This one was much darker than the previous volumes. This provided a bit more detail with the 'final boss' scene than was in the game, which helps with perspective. It makes it a bit more sad...

The fight with Roxas was glossed over, and it missed out crucial parts that were in the game that provided context and reasons for later events. Unless this is further explained in later series, this isn't going to provide much explanation as to what happened at the end of the fight, so later mentions may be hard to understand what's going on and why.

I'm kind of surprised how much I liked the manga adaptations of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, especially since the actual game was sort of a miss for me. I found the the pacing of the game glacial and the feeling of the Org XIII Headquarters very bleak. However, the manga goes along steadily and the interaction between the Organization members is really entertaining.

It seems like the strange humor that occurs in the previous mangas (KH1, Chain of Memories, and KH2) is better managed. I never really understood why people liked the nobodies of Organization XIII so much. From playing the games, I just couldn't relate or sympathize with any of them, but Roxas and Axel. However, I legitimately liked a few of the members by the end of this manga series. Reading 358/2 before I read the KH2 manga series paid unexpected dividends, because I was able to enjoy the humorous interactions between Sora and the Org XIII members so much more.

By the way, can anyone confirm that Demyx is the Org XIII member that gets blasted by the Claymore system in the 2nd KH2 manga? Because that would have been even more HILARIOUS than it already was if true.

Anyway, there's a good improvement in the overall quality of this manga adaptation. The art is consistently good. The story is well managed, even with the extras thrown in. I really get a sense of Roxas, Axel, and Xion's "feelings" throughout. I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone who wants greater insight into the characters and story line between KH1 and KH2.

"Never let go of the people you once loved the most." That's what I'm writing inside of the book I got which I'll be donating. The only reason I'm writing in it anyway is because it was already in tatters. It's an ex-library copy that had pencil and crayon in many places in it, and it's missing an art page or two. I may as well add to the destruction of the book by adding something pleasant and meaningful to it. If only it could help one person feel better for even a moment, or better yet help shape their outlook on life, I'm happy, and I hope this book will end up in the hands of someone who will be affected in that way. Anyway, now on to the real review of this book.
I couldn't put it down. When I started it, I had to finish it. It was so good. Comedy, drama, heart ache, love, friendship, development. I suppose that Xion being a Nobody of Roxas isn't that simple and it isn't quite what she is. She is not necessarily a Nobody of Sora's, but she is not Sora either. She is a man-made replica of Sora, both his artificial Nobody and a "perfect copy" of him. Due to also being his Nobody however, she is meant to absorb Roxas into her consciousness, since he is a natural Nobody of Sora's and thus a part of him. Xion is only able to entirely replicate Sora by absorbing ALL of his memories and thus his essence, leaving him a husk and her becoming a copy of him under the control of Organization XIII and Xenmas, who is a Nobody of Terra-Xehanohart.
Roxas has memories of Sora's and thus... Well... You know.
Once Xion has been assimilated with nearly every piece of Sora, she is all but complete, the only piece left that is needed is Roxas. So her instinct is to become one with him. She transforms. Twice. And Roxas has to destroy her... But it was a mercy, and the right thing to do. It is what she wanted. However, she would have been forgotten upon her disappearance from existence (more than just a death), however as she lay dissipating in Roxas' arms... He was able to recognize and then remember her as she disappeared. Her last moments were spent knowing he'd remember her...and that they three (even though Axel was left unconscious elsewhere at the time) were truly best friends, even if they did not have any hearts. Maybe we don't need to always feel something to care about someone...
Aside from all that, we saw Saix and Roxas fight, that was really exciting. And Axel showed the most emotion yet in this one... More than some people do out there in the world. He said he was going to miss Roxas, he seemed hurt when he left the Organization and wouldn't dare look at Axel.
"Just you wait, best friend." was the last of anything we heard as Axel was looking out at the sunset, making a promise to get his best friend Roxas back. It is unclear however if he really remembers Xion or not. He likely does not, but the memories are likely not gone forever.
It was really beautiful seeing the friendship of these three, or even Axel and Roxas, blossom as it did, literally from ground bottom and up.
It seems the end to this is roughly where Kingdom Hearts II starts, because Namine and all them took Roxas, replaced his memories with fabricated ones, and placed him in a virtual town until the time was right for them to eradicate him. Basically, as Sora's Nobody, he had to die in order for Sora to awaken, but it is not yet time for Sora to awaken. And thus, they put him in a peaceful dream of sorts...until the time for him to die arrives. Axel doesn't know all of these details, of course. But I think he has some idea of what has happened to Roxas. Enough to know where he went to at least, and that's a start. Castle Oblivion is kind of obvious at this point.
Lastly, what's with Riku's magical eyes? I really wanna know.
P.S. I don't know why I didn't find a place beforehand to throw this in there somewhere, but thus far this has been the most intense volume of Kingdom Hearts. And I wonder if this story is for the slightly older kids... It tackles subjects at a kid level, but there's some things they still wouldn't be able to grasp. Buuuut I guess that's partly what made some of the kid stories I grew up watching so exciting. They felt foreign and amazing. And I don't know if I am glad or disappointed in myself that I finished the prequel to Kingdom Hearts II before I got very far in II. But I think I'll go with delighted, because now I will be less confused and I'll be rooting for my precious Axel more.

This is a great conclusion to a series, and a great set up for a companion series. The series as a whole was not my favorite set in this world. However the art style brightens my day every time I read a volume it is one of my all time favorite art styles. Overall I loved the friendships between Roxas, Axel and Xion. The ending had me tear up a little bit. I can’t wait to read the more graphic novels set in this world.

*5 stars to the series as a whole*

I LOVED the 358/2 days manga series. It was so funny, so smart, and so heartbreaking. Each book added an entirely different element to the story than the game did, and I found myself so invested in these characters I never felt fully invested in during the game series. If you have never played any KH game and are just in it for the story, pick up the manga. They are some of the best written manga/graphic novels I have come across!

Poor xion, she wanted to be with roxas n axel but she cant, she know that she belong with sora that was a part from him even roxas wanted to beat riku because of xion. Riku beat down roxas until he's unconscious. Roxas become different person n doesn't remember he's in organization 13.

Now I’m sad

Im sad that it’s over because this is by far the best Kingdom Hearts manga, but even more so that ending is a gut punch even knowing what was going to happen. I love every bit of the 358/2 Days manga

1) Deutsche Rezension

2) English Review
From my perspective, this was the best part of the five volumes, probably to a large extent by the fact that it did not have so many comedy parts, even though there were, for example, the flu epidemic in the organization, but those were relatively few.
Because of the absence of all those, in my view quite forced, laughs the story could focus more on the characters Axel, Roxas and Xion and their development. I cannot say much about how similar the manga is to the game, because I know of only a few scenes played on Youtube, but I can say nonetheless that some things are different (for example: the size of Xion's puppet shape and a few changes in the dialogues of three). One may also wonder, why Axel and Roxas are so influenced by Xion's fate but not Xemnas and Saix. One might speculate, based on information from a Kingdom Hearts game published afterwards what happened, but as it is, it is simply one of the gaps in the plot this book has. There are no large holes that ruin the story, but nonetheless they are there.
The drawing style and general composition of the pictures carry the story and emotions of the characters well (e.g. .Xion's acceptance of her fate or Roxas seemingly struggling with his and how torn Axel is apparently) and it is missing, fortunately, the exaggerated images of earlier volumes.
The story works all in all and tied together the plotlines of the earlier volumes and I think connects well to Kingdom Hearts II.

SHEESH! Every one, stealin' Roxas's keyblades... SOO ROOD!

Okay, this next bit was added like, two years later. Bear with me.

This series, mostly the first book, is what got me into "obsessing," as some people have pointed out, with the whole KH franchise. Guess who the main character is in this series overall? Yup, Roxas. I didn't know, or care, frankly, who Sora was until I got into KH2. Honestly, I didn't really care even then...

Basically, years later, the ending to this always makes me tear up, like that Stitch giff I see every time I scroll through the reviews. After I stopped obsessing with a CERTAIN BACKSTABBING SERIES THAT WON"T BE NAMED, I hardcore did with this one. Years later, I'm STILL re-re-re-reading these series, playing the games, TRYING TO BEAT LINGERING WILL!!!!, and binging on all the juicy cutscenes that take hours to watch, but WHO CARES!? The soundtracks, the story, mwaaah.

(I just realized, I'm talking about the game, not the book... lemme fix that.)

I dunno why, but around Thanksgiving each year, I check out this whole series to binge on, most specifically this one and the first one. And a little message for all those Keyblade theives out there-Riku, Sora- STOP!

(Dec 15, 2025)

WWWWAAAAAAAAAHHHHH*snfl*WAAAAAAAAAHAAHAAAHAAA!!!
*snrfl*
I finished re-re-re-re-reading(I think?) this series. My thoughts are perfectly portrayed above. I've never played the og 358/2 days game, but I have watched the cutscenes plenty of times. Enough to know but excuse the inconsistencies. EG: He fought Riku on the 358th day, which means he fought Xion on the 357th day. Think about it. Also, Axel did NOT succeed on bringing Xion back to The Castle that Never Was; she was too strong for him, being an experienced Keyblade wielder. Also, the Roxas/Riku fight was too.. short. No one(at least, as far as I've experienced) can portray the necessary amount of emotion that scene holds. Last but not least, they made Riku seem TOO op. Sure, he's meant to be strong(at least when he STEALS Oblivion), but it's not like he just looks at someone, and BAM, they're out, no, there's much more to it than that.

Still, I tear up on the inside every time I read this series. Still, I love it. Beeautiful. I wish they had KH3 manga at my library, but I'm also kinda glad they didn't, so that I could figure out the story by myself(actually, I knew most of the story, but same difference.). Great series. Sorry for ranting. BYE!

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED/WATCHED 358/2 ON YOUTUBE YET!Not because of spoiler purposes, there are many changes make from the original story line!

GAAAHH I was highly disappointed with this volume! And I love KH manga! The volume is super fast paced, very important fights were severely shorted, and some of the content added/changes made to the story was NOT needed! :( The beginning was great, but the rest was bad!

How could you shorten the Roxas vs Riku fight like that? And WTH Riku never learned some OP move that does massive damage to an opponent just by LOOKING at them!

It's most likely the story was too fast because the author was nearing the end of the game, and since he didnt want to make a whole 'nother sixth volume, he had to squeeze as much a he could in the last few chapters.

The way the 356th day and so on was told stuck compared to the game. The...*ahem* Xion scene was way more emotional in the real game.

Anyway, im sad this is how it ended, cuz this is my favorite KH game...
