Rugged gunslinger Desperado Jones is hired by Chloe Sommers to protect her herd, but unbeknownst to Chloe, Desperado has a hidden agenda that involves revenge and capturing her heart. Original.

I'm not sure about giving 2 or 3 stars. I think it gets 3 for now, because I've read much worse ones. The story was good, but the detailed sex scenes got old after a while. Also the constant mentioning of the hero's raspy scary voice. I got it already. There were some background informations repeatetly given throughout the whole book in many different ways, very annoying and made my eyes roll - again, I got it already, wasn't necessary or important enough to constantly point out. The heroine seemed immature and even silly sometimes, I didn't like her. And I didn't feel their growing love for each other, I thought it was more lust and physical attraction between them than falling in love. It was like the author wanted me to believe they fell for each other but wasn't able to put it into the right words so it didn't reach my heart.
Set in the mid to late 1800's in some western town either Colorado, Texas, or Montana. The town "Trouble Creek" must be fictitious because can't find it. I read this several years ago and do not remember its primary location/setting.
The book was WONDERFUL and one of my favorites. Desperado was 1/2 Indian, meets and marries Chloe Summers (blond). They deal with discrimination and his past as a gunfighter catches up with him.
Great western romance! Nice characters!
I have to say, this has to be one of the worst book covers I have ever seen...
Gunslinger Desperado Jones (a name you would only find in a historical romance) has been hired to scare off rancher Chloe Sommers. Desperado has his own personal vendetta against Chole because that's a requirement of a Mason hero to hate women who have never done anything against them. Whether it is the expected trials of the cattle trail or the personal attacks of enemies, Chloe never backs down. I really liked her. She is one of the better heroines Mason has ever crafted.
If the author would’ve used “he rasped”, “sexy as sin” and “mean as hell look” one more time I would’ve used this book as kindling. Repetitive phrases were overkill and absolutely ruined what was already a so-so story. I’m almost positive the hero suffered from emphysema since he wheezed and rasped the whole time. Pass!
This book was told in my MOST FAVORITE way, DUAL POV! However, there are two other POV's, unfortunately at times, by the horrible Talbot men.
Desperado Jones is most likely the FASTEST draw gunslinger of the West. He has a scary reputation and surprisingly has a clean record with the Law. He blows in to Trouble Creek where he definitely finds himself a heap of trouble to deal with. Question is, does he want to stay and deal with it all? Or ride away and forget he even stepped foot back in the town he knew once as a child? And once he meet's Chloe, who he can't get out of his head, will he be able to walk away from her? Decisions...decisions...
Chloe Sommers is a single woman with fantastic curves and is a beauty that slime-ball Tate Talbot just can't seem to stay away from. Even at the risk of harm to himself. She runs her own ranch and raises cattle. The day Desperado rolls in to town is the same day Chloe is out to hire a Gun Hand to protect her cattle on their way to the railhead in another state. She tries to get Desperado, yet he denies her at every chance he can until he's offered a price he can't refuse.
Talbots run, or more like bully, the town. Calvin is the mayor and land surveyor and his son Tate is just a big whiner who wants whatever he wants and feels like he can have it at any price. The Talbots are making serious trouble for Chloe as they have designs on her ranch. She needs more then ever to get her cattle to the railhead to make the best profit she can to pay her taxes. The Talbots will go out of their way to do anything they can to make that NOT happen.
I really enjoyed a good portion of this book. I felt like it was fast paced most of the time and I loved the first half. The second was a bit slower for me but then seemed to pick up again towards the end. There were times I wanted to smack Desperado for his ROSE COLOR GLASSES, comments and actions. Sometimes he was slow on the up-take. lol. Eventually he finds value in certain things, wisen's up, and becomes pretty loyal. There were times I thought that Chloe was a push over when she was trying to be a tough bad ass. Also, she had big news to share towards the end of the book that I felt like she could have pushed harder to share. she eventually does, it just took too long for my liking.
All in all I enjoyed this book and I always have love for cowboy's and cowboy stories.
2.5 stars Still not sure about this one. I liked the premise of the basic story including the part about Logan/Desperado's history with the Ralston ranch. It was pretty fast paced but the main characters were so-so. They both had a lot of baggage and things started out rough when he wasn't entirely honest with her.
There's a LOT of detailed sex scenes which got old after awhile. What also got old in the beginning was having to read about Chloe's long, slender legs and Desperado's raspy, scary voice. We get it already. It got very tedious. The beginning left little to be desired but it picked up and things got moving about one third of the way through.
I really enjoyed this story. It was well thought out and researched, and it had you guessing what would happen next from beginning to end. I loved how Chloe was a strong female character, which isn't something you read about much with romance stories, and Jones made you want to reach into the book and lock him up in your closet. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good western romance.
Enjoyed it. The plot was kind of the same as most romance Western. Beautiful girl left to run ranch and dashing cowboy (in this case Gunslinger) arrives to save the day. It was enjoyable easy reading.
Re-read of an old favorite. One of the old time bodice ripper romances I cut my teeth on back in the day. I still enjoy reading Mason's western historicals.
