Not Low Maintenance

Rate this book
Falling in love is easy. Staying in love is hard, especially when there are two lawyers and a defamation of character lawsuit involved.

The Blood and Guts Hunt Breakfast puts the Miller sisters' new catering business on the Litchfield County society map. This event is where Viva Miller meets the attractive, successful attorney Joel Bernstein, who just days later becomes the legal pitbull for Viva's ex-, the vile David J. Resnick.

Yes, Viva lies during the deposition phase before the trial. Then there's the unpleasantness when David turns up dead and Viva is the last person to see him alive. But, what the heck, no relationship is perfect. Bigtime love is not low maintenance.

this started out very promisingly. Viva has fled her East Coast home and lived in California for the last 2 years. An urgent plea for help from her sister brings her home, and the sisters decide to start a catering business to get little sister Bel's finanacial problems under control. Sadly, their first client turns out to be a hunt ball hosted by Viva's detested, vindictive ex. Viva designs a menu that is pointedly directed at him, yet goes over well with his friends and clients, and reignites his thirst for revenge on her for something that isn't revealed until much later. David, the ex, is a goon; Joel, the man Viva meets at the hunt ball is a lawyer with a sense of humor, and as soon as it's obvious that he & V are falling for each other, David hires him to sue Viva. The rest of the book follows Viva & Joel trying to forge a relationship despite David's lawsuit, Viva's unlikely transtion into a pop-culture Mating Maven, and the fallout from David's vicious, bitter attacks. The ending was a little rushed and forced- had it been fleshed out a little more, I would have given this 4 stars.

I really really wanted to love this book. It had a great idea but at the end it just fell flat. It was like in the last 20 pages the author realized they were ending the book but didn't clear anything up so they made a nice tidy ending. Also the development of the characters and their relationships seemed to be missing something. I just couldn't figure out how Aviva and Joel fell in love when they went on like 2 dates. It just felt forced and not very natural. For 99 cents it is a good buy on Amazon but I wouldn't pay more than that.

I personally found Not Low Maintenance to be a fun book its full of sister love fun food ideas and love. The Mating Amgen that was a fun idea! I found Bel to be a silly but what a great cook! The way David was to all the women was cold and callous. I found that I really liked Viva she was a strong character and she found her love with Joel. There were a few moments towards the end I got a bit of a thrill when I found out who killed the Callous David . All in All good job Barbara!

Honestly, I like the concept of the sory. I am however pretty angry. If you are going to use a foreign language in a novel have the decency to do more that use a translation software! NOT ONE full sentence in French is correct NOT ONE!!

This was a enjoyable and comical read with fun characters. The story had twists and turns and the Yiddish words made me laugh.
I liked the relationship between the sisters, and seeing Viva as a strong woman.

This was a good one to read on the insomnia nights. Funny, well written and actually a message and story. What more could you ask for?

well it was worth the 99 cents I paid for it. I really liked the main character, but the story kind of fell flat. the ending was also too rushed and involved too many coincidences.
