If for the first book I could say that the story had intrigued me, this 2nd book annoyed and bored me. Most of the time I wanted to slap Terry and kick his as*, he was a jerk and if I were Herry I would have run far away from him and found myself someone that wasnt ashamed of being seen with a gay human male(if I was a man, well u get it..) or that would leave me alone while having dinner to follow his friends and watch a game. Terry never acknowledged that Herry was his mate when he was with his "friends" and I don't know how Herry could accept this awful behavior, in his thoughts he seemed like a strong and out of the closet man, so sure of himself and of the fact that he wouldn't be anyone little dirty secret again, but then he tried to excuse his stupid mate and kept giving him second chances (or third or....etc..). Terry cowardice almost caused Herry's death...Idk the mate thing seemed more a curse to me than a gift. Give me a Lance or an Aaron, but a Terry? no way, I would prefer forever alone.
Also in this book, there was a dark and realistic theme, Homophobia and what crazy ppl do to others that act in a different way than what their lizard brain tells them is the right thing to do.
I didn't give 2 stars only bcs the end was decent and Terry finally grew some balls, but what kept my interest in the story were the few lines where I could read about Jamie(one of the officers of Lonepine and part of Lance's pack) and Ivan (the detective who took Ronan's stalker back to jail and Beta of his pack). They will be damn hot together!
Ps= idk why, but in this book the grammar seemed worst....this author needs someone to beta read his/her works asap.
This was not your usual meet your mate and it all works out in the romance area. No, Terry is a very prejudiced wolf against humans and gays. When he meets Henry, cousin to the the Alpha mate and realizes they are mates he is very conflicted. Terry is not out of the closet and his group of friends know his feelings. He wants Henry but also wants his old life and friends too. Henry feels the mate pull but won't be with a man that can't openly claim him. We have plenty of angst and physical harm to Henry before Terry grows up and proves he has changed. An uncomfortable book with the gay bashing but we finally get to our HEA.
So, Henry was a bit confusing for me, since he states that he can’t be with Terry and only be taken to ‘dingy diners, and out of the way restaurants’. While I agree that the nice restaurant was a bit out of the way, the front window of the Black Bean was in no way hiding, nor was it a dingy diner. Terry wasn’t the only one, in this relationship, who had to figure out how to not be judgmental.
Henry and Terry were mates, although, Terry was still in the closet and had a prejudice against humans, so he had to overcone many insecurities. Some of the story was difficult to read, however, I enjoyed the characters and the ending was very heartfelt.
Stupid me! Too late I realized this is book 2 of a book I decided to PASS on.. for good reason. I'm not sure but it feels like a less than grammatical person wrote this.. Actually it doesn't FEEL it IS. Sentences tend to run together missing a punctuation or the phrasing is RAW (perhaps a good word I've been looking for in regards to this). Ahhhhh I've got it.. this is unpolished!
And Terry... big duesche bag. Ok so a little hesitant and making mistakes but, even for on the short side book, I thought too much time was spent on this issue. AND the last mistake leaves his mate fighting for his life. Oh but finally prove that he can come out and all is forgiven. Its the domino effect. If he hadn't let himself do the insecure thing once again, then his mate wouldn't have been leaving by himself. Should have never been two cars either.
If you managed the first book and liked it, then you will probably like this one. If you had issues from the get go with just the overall presentation and tone in #1, do yourself a favor and cut your losses.
Terry never thought that finding a true mate was true. Terry is scared for everyone to know that his mate is a human male. He doesn’t want his friends to perceive him as a hypocrite. Will has known about shifters and mating since his family has shifters in it. Will is trying not to let his heart get into the equation. He is still sore after his last boyfriend. Will Terry ever be able to get out of his head and love Will the way he should be loved? Is Will ever going to let Terry have his heart and trust him. Or will Will leave and leave Terry? Will Terry loose his mate forever because of his sinfulness?
I thought the first one was a better book mainly because I disliked Terry. He let things go waaaaaaay too far and his grand gesture was just too late for me. I didn't buy the happy ending and thought that Henry deserved someone better. As another reviewer said, this book was in serious need of editing; commas are your friend. The writing in general was a little rough, more like a first time writer.
This book is better than the first one in the series. I like how the MC's became friends. The plot and overall story was good, but the POV still a mess.
Still needs work on grammar and point of view. Solid story base and it's not a bad thing if an author builds a character that makes you feel strongly - even it's dislike/hate.
