Crow County Sheriff’s Department had their hands full trying to solve the quickly growing cold, missing person case of seventeen-year-old Sarah McCoy. Sarah’s parents, Doctor Larry and Caroline McCoy, were convinced that Sarah had been kidnapped, but there was no evidence to support their suspicion.
The sheriff’s department was out of ideas except one –getting the best tracker in the area to search the isolated woods in northern Minnesota. That tracker was none other than sixteen-year-old Danny Berry and his Siberian Husky Teddy Mae.
Danny Berry is a young tracker with a dog who helps. Missing turns into a kidnapping full of twists that keep you ready for more.
I enjoyed this fast paced story full of rounded characters that surprise you . Danny seems to know people well, is generous, kind, and a hunter for justice.
A Kidnapping Gone Wrong is an adventure story with a larger-than-life hero, Danny Berry, who is simply too good to be true. Danny is a teenager who single-handedly fought two brown bears and survived, is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, and an expert wilderness tracker. Danny also has powers of deduction that rival those of Sherlock Holmes, yet he is only 16, or maybe 17 -- the only thing Danny can't seem to do well is keep his age straight.
Danny Berry, an outstandingly brilliant teenage boy (who has yet to finish high school), has the local sheriff's department, the FBI, and a high-powered newspaper reporter at his beck and call. Danny Berry is also independently wealthy, a novelist, and irresistible to women. This story reads like every young boy's wildest fantasies. Despite all of the over-the-top heroics and unlikely deductions -- or maybe because of them -- I enjoyed this book. I think it would be a big hit with teenage boys. Parents please be aware, the primary crime in the story is the kidnapping of teenage girls for human trafficking. There are frank discussions of sexual orientation, rape, and cold-blooded murder, but details are kept to a minimum.
The story includes an interesting assortment of characters, including inept petty criminal, Frank Zappa, and Danny's handyman father, Chuck Berry. Enough said?
"A Kidnapping Gone Wrong" by D.K. Amsden an entertaining, thrilling suspense thriller. Almost feels like the old Columbo or Perry Mason mysteries series on TV. There is action, hardcore suspense and compelling adventure. An enjoyable escape that was unpredictable which made it that much more fun. So clever and easy to get absorbed into all of the drama. I had no idea where this was going to lead. Great characters with a fast paced gritty plot. Would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery and a witty storyline.
This book grabbed my attention while I was able to visit into the unknown. A fun, intriguing ride. Glad there is a book two in the works. Looking forward to more of Danny Barry’s adventures. I had no idea where this was going to lead. Definitely worth the time reading. Look forward to more from this talented author.

"I don't know where Sarah is, but if my hunch is right, I'm going to bust one of the biggest crimes in Minnesota history." Greybull and Ryder looked at each other. Danny could tell they thought he had completely lost it.
D.K Amsden is a great story teller. Danny Berry does a amazing feat for a sixteen year old of solving the disappearance of Sarah McCoy after her parents blunder of not reporting her missing to the Crow County Sheriff's Department until twenty-four hours past. Things become quickly entangled in a strange mess. Danny and the Sheriff keeps getting side railed by the FBI who has down graded Sarah's disappearance from a kidnapping to a mere missing person. As Danny keeps probing her disappearance other things keep pulling Danny from his search.
"A Kidnapping Gone Wrong" by D.K. Amsden is a great mystery story with a interesting teenage investigator. Strong, handsome, bright and with a Siberian Husky by his side, Danny Berry is a hero that will appeal to many readers. The story unravels the mystery behind the disappearance of another teenager, called Sarah McCoy. The book uses great settings - woodlands in Minnesota, some excellent characters and has all the ingredients for a popular series. Looking forward to the next book.
This book is wonderful. I could not put it down. I sat up til 3 in the morning reading it. I just couldn't quit reading til I got done. I am sorry it ended way too soon. You must read this book, it grabs you from the beginning and you won't want to stop til it is finished.
I rated the book with four stars because it is well written and has a way of pulling a surprise on the reader. I do think it would do very well as a YA selection as well as a reader who wants to read a good story without all the filthy language we unfortunately see in some of other writers works.
A decent story; however, the 16-year-old protagonist was a little hard to believe. I know this is written to appeal to a younger reader, but I'm glad I read it. 4.3 stars.
