Whatever the mess, God can work a miracle.

Author and Bible teacher Tammie Head knows firsthand because that's what happened to her. She tells a bit of her story and encourages others to believe in God's goodness and power to heal in her book MORE: From Messes to Miracles. (Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for my review.)

It's a passionate plea to not let your past or present circumstances keep you from the life God intends. More is encouraging and strengthening for anyone wondering if the life they have is all there is.

And the book is full of inspiring word art. I think my favorite one is this:

"If authentic joy and adventure is what you want in life, the way you get there is following God's lead."

It's hard to read this book and not catch Tammie's joy and enthusiasm for Jesus. If you're in the middle of a mess, let Tammie's words lead you to more.

This book has been such a blessing in my life.
I’m so thrilled God placed this wonderful resource in my life at exactly the right moment. “More” has reminded me of who I am in Christ and the work He wants to do in and through me. I’ve been reminded that He wants ALL of me…the good, the bad and even the ugly. I’m reminded that I cannot “clean myself up” and then surrender to Christ…but that He accepts me just as I am. Only when I lay it all out before Him, can He truly begin to change me into the woman I was always meant to be- He does the fixing and the cleaning and the making new.
I’m so glad author Tammie Head has decided to share this part of her faith journey with us. Her openness and honesty is refreshing and so encouraging.
If you’ve found yourself wondering if you were made for more…the answer is YES!!! You were made to be a walking miracle. Let this wonderful guide help you see that you WERE made for MORE!

This was a really quick read, only 155 pages & several are quotes with the chapter title. It spoke a lot on living in Christ and how we should embrace it and be fearless. It didn’t speak a lot on her actual personal experience on how she got to the point of living. Pretty deceiving from what I thought the book was on (her forward begins talking about her life pre God, and how “messy” it was) which is why I picked up this read. It was a lot of generalizations about walking in Christ and not a lot resonated with me or kept my attention because I thought this was more so a book about her personal journey.

I enjoyed this book! I have to admit there were several points where I was really struggling to stay engaged and focused - but overall I loved the message Tammie was getting across about a relationship with God. I’d recommend it!

There is an ancient practice in Celtic Christianity called the “soul friend.” Essentially, it was the earliest systematized form of the contemporary practice of mentoring where one Christian seeks guidance, instruction or discipline from another Christian. In many ways, Tammie Head’s book More functions like a “soul friend.” Head, a Christian woman who has overcome a great deal of adversity in her life, including a teenage shotgun marriage and escaping the sex trade industry, does not offer a treatise on Christian theology nor does she offer an organized plan for spiritual growth. What she does offer is a conversation, a conversation about faith. She is honest about her faults and struggles, especially those about her marriage and pride in ministry. She does offer some thoughts and reflections on some spiritual disciplines that have been helpful to her, like intercessory prayer and reading scripture. However the bulk of the content comes in the form of stories collected over a lifetime of spiritual peaks and valleys. The ultimate goal of her book is simple: God can redeem any messy person and turn him or her into a glorious spiritual miracle. The chapters do not necessarily follow any particular progression but function more like informal conversations around a dinner table or in a coffee shop. There is a lot of good stuff here, a buffet of stories and insights that can benefit readers in only one chapter doses or in reading the entire book at once.

As basic and conversational as this book is, there are a few faults that I had with it. For the most part, these are fairly small details, however I think they are worth noting. First, there are a few places where the author refers to her readers as “daughters of God.” Now, I get it—very few men are going to read this book; it is written more for women. However, as a male reader and as one who gets aggravated when male writers assume only men will read their books, I think Head does herself a disservice by assuming that only women will read her book. As I mentioned above, there is a lot of good stuff here that can benefit any reader, regardless of gender. Second, the author gets a little repetitious in some of her comments and stories. This was not so much of a returning to stories in order to continue telling them as much as it was repeating stories as if that particular story had not been told previously. Third—and this one is a little theological—the author mixes or equates the roles of God and Jesus in a way that made me scratch my head a time or two. From an evangelical perspective, I can understand the blurring of Trinitarian personalities because we teach them as one in the same. However, from an academic perspective, this reflects a lacking in biblical and theological competency that is problematic, especially for skeptical, unchurched readers.

Overall, I think this is a good book that will a helpful read for those who are looking for some encouragement on how God can turn our messes into miracles.

More. Don't we all just wish we had more?
More time. More sleep. More attention. More money. More love. More passion. More ... more ... more. What do you crave more of?

Tammie Head offers a glimpse into her own life and story of how she found "more" in Christ. Her amazing story of redemption from the "trash can" of life to the cherished daughter of a King is worth every word.

Her latest book, More: From Messes to Miracles is a powerful book filled with awe, angst, but most of all Delight. Delight in the One who redeems ALL things.

For me the best part of the book was Tammie's wonderful and gracious attitude. She feels like a friend you'd invite over for coffee for MORE. Her sense of passion and wonder is infectious. Her words are encouraging and inspiring. If you've ever wondered if there is more out there, more you were meant to be doing, or just curious if there is a way out of where you are at, then you need to sit down with Tammie. She will expand the fire (whether it's a flicker or a flame) in you to be all God created you to be.

The next best part of the book was the gorgeous and fun word art at the beginning of each chapter. They are both beautiful to look at and wonderful to absorb their truths into your life.

I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others. My only concern was who. The beginning part of the book has such a powerful witness I wanted to share it with a couple people who are hurting and need the grace of God in their lives. Tammie's testimony will rule out anyone's concern that "God couldn't love someone like me." Tammie is living, breathing proof that the opposite is true.

However, the last part of the book is definitely penned to believers. She challenges those in the faith to reach out for "more"; that our walk with God isn't about surviving. It's about thriving. That living a dutiful Christian life is never what God intended. He is totally ok working with, touching and believing in those of us who are "messy" through and through. Tammie exhorts us as believers to stop stretching our muscles, straining our eyes and over-exhausting our spirits to appease us, others or God. That He desires only our worship. Our devotion. And our surrendered heart.

Thanks to B&H Publishing and Icon Media Group for a free copy of this book in exchange for my review. I was not required to post only positive remarks.

More: From Messes to Miracles by Tammie Head is her story of how God performed the miraculous in her own life in spite of the mess. Her childhood was filled with neglect and abuse, leading to an "escape" at the age of 15 to sex industry. Life as a stripper and a marriage than ended in divorce at 18. Drugs and alcohol helped her to cope with the mess that was her life, but Tammie felt that there had to be more. She felt that God was calling her to hive her life to Him, but did not know how to do that.

Her boyfriend's mom was the catalyst to helping her see that she could be so much more than what she had settled for, but the birth of her first daughter is what led to a serious search for God. She found Him and was baptized, but spent a couple of years as a rule-follower and doing the right stuff that Christians are supposed to do.

Then she had an encounter with God.

Tammie learned there was more to a relationship with God than being a good church girl. God wants you to love Him and to spend time with Him to gain heart knowledge rather than just head knowledge. She also learned that He did not want her to keep silent about her past. Her "mess" brought a message of the miraculous works God will do when we abandon all parts of our lives to Him.

Her honesty about her fears, failures, and faults gives fresh hope to those who feel they have made too many mistakes for God to accept them. The heartbreak she endured as a child, including decisions she made as a teen, are proof that there is a new life to be found despite your circumstances. And that those experiences can be used to encourage others and to glorify God.

At approximately 150 pages, this is a fairly quick read. I did find some of it to be as bit repetitive, but liked the book overall. I would definitely recommend it to others, especially those who believe their past, or current life, makes them unacceptable to God.

Have you ever taken a good hard look at your life and felt something was missing?

Do you do your best to avoid reflecting on your past because nothing but pain, guilt and shame lurks there?

Tammie Head knows what those feelings are like. She knows what it’s like to grow up in an abusive household – to drop out of high school – to marry the wrong guy to escape to a better life – to watch that marriage crumble before your very eyes.

Tammie knows what it’s like to feel so awful that you think life isn't worth living anymore – to believe in empty promises – and the consequences of leading a lifestyle that few women escape from.

Thankfully, that’s not the entirety of Tammie’s story.

Tammie also knows that miracles DO happen – and in her new book, More – From Messes To Miracles, former stripper turned Bible teacher Tammie Head shares her amazing story!

More – From Messes To Miracles is a highly engaging book that focuses on how a fresh encounter with the God of the Bible can transform your life, just as it did hers.

Tammie challenges us not to be satisfied with leading ordinary Christian lives, but to let each encounter with God “set our heart ablaze” and to allow God to use the story of our own messy lives to help advance His kingdom.

This book is full of truth that we need to grasp. If we did that would change everything. I do believe God has so much more for us and we tend to settle for what is in front of us. A huge mistake.

Tammie has a story of redemption that is amazing. I love hearing real life stories of Jesus just wrecking someone’s life in the best way possible.

On page 39 Tammie says something the made me stop and think. She is talking about Satan when she says “he”: ” Honestly, he is worshipped by people living less than what God’s Word says.”

Wow. That stopped me. How many times have I lived as less than God’s Word? How many times a day? More than I want to admit.

On the flip side I do have to say I struggled to track with Tammie in this book. I felt it jumped around a lot and I didn’t know what time in her life she was talking about or when things actually took place. That was a struggle for me. When it comes to timelines and people’s stories I like to understand them clearly and know the order in which everything happened. I felt it jumped from one point, to another, back to another. Because of that I was a bit distracted because I kept trying to make sense of her story.

Like I said, there are some great truths in this book and it might just have been me that struggled with the timeline thing. I would say this book is for someone just starting out in their faith and wanting to discover more, how to go deeper.

A copy of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

To say that Tammie Head's life was a mess is perhaps an understatement. Tammie grew up in a dysfunctional environment and by the time she was fifteen she found herself performing in a gentleman's club. Her newest book More: From Messes to Miracles gives a frank account of those awful years.

In most cases this would inevitably be a book that would depress you and leave you questioning why this happens. But this book is written by Tammie and her effervescent nature just explodes all over the page. Instead of dwelling on how dreadful her situation was she almost immediately introduces you to her beloved future mother-in-law who would play a very integral role in helping her find her way out of the mess and straight into the arms of Jesus.

I have been a Christ follower since I was nine years-old but after reading this book I want more of what Tammie has. A deeper love for the very One who brought both of us out of a dark pit. Don't think that you have to be in some depraved place in your life to read this book. Each and every one of us just needs more of Jesus. You can just never get enough of Him!

Join Tammie in a remarkable journey that will help you turn whatever mess you are in into a walking breathing miracle. Satisfaction is within your grasp as long as you are reaching for Jesus.

More: Messes to Miracles
By: Tammie Head

You know what they say you can't judge a book by it's cover!! All though the cover is kind of plain and not exciting what is inside is!!! Tammie shares her life with us, a life of abuse and neglect then into sexual business as a stripper. Drugs and alcohol to help make it to just go away. To the point of trying to kill herself. What Tammie found out was she needed the Lord. God can heal anything if we put our effort in him and not of this world. Tammie tells it as it is in the book there is no beating around the bush. I liked it. I think we can all stand back and look at our life and see where is God in it? I am sure this had to be a hard book to write being it is her own personal story and telling the world about it. But through Christ we can do anything! Philippians 4:13. I think this is a well written book and suggest all read it. The book may look plain but it is worth gold inside.

I really liked this book. The author's voice is fresh and honest. She tells her own story and shares how she found Jesus. She has an honest way of writing. There is no theological jargon, just encouraging teaching. This is a good book for women who are looking for more. No matter where they've been or what they've done, God is ready to meet them. The book is also good for Christians as Tammie nails some issues, like doing ministry to be noticed, or having a critical spirit. Her down home way of writing accentuated her honesty.

This is an amazing little book that contains a BIG message - that no matter how messed up your life is - you can ALWAYS turn to Jesus and he will show you a better way of life, ETERNAL LIFE!

Tammie Head does a beautiful job of telling her story of dysfunction and chaos and how coming to God showed her the way to share those experiences with others and help them to gain more out of life. I highly recommend this book for all ages - and it would be perfect for a small group bible study!

I loved the charge to live more fully in the power of God and the reminders that He offers us more as we surrender to Him. There was much foundational truth in this book, but I found myself getting lost in the Christian jargon often, feeling like it was another language I didn't always follow. Overall, though, I found MORE to be thought-provoking and a terrific reminder to look to God for strength and renewal, not ourselves.
