I don’t feel that I can really give the Bible a review. What I can do is tell you what it means to me. I was raised on a diet of Bible stories from before I could separate the meaning of the words from my mama’s soothing voice. Scripture has been there for me since I became a Christian when I was six years old. I remember waking up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat from a bad dream. Flipping open my Bible to a Psalm never failed to drive away my nightmares. When I got made fun of in school or went through a breakup, the Bible was my refuge. As I got older and went through hard times, when my husband was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, when we found out that we would never be able to have children, I found God’s comfort in its pages. I have never had to go through life alone, and that is all due to Jesus, who I was introduced to through this book.
The Bible is a mosaic, housing between its covers everything from poetry to prophecy, epic battles to the ultimate Sacrifice. Is it hard to read? Sometimes. I struggle with the genealogies and laws as much as the next person. But anytime the Bible is approached with an open heart and mind, God speaks. My granny was the daughter of a moonshiner, and was forced to drop out of school in the second grade. She never truly learned to read or write. But somehow, she cold pick up her Bible and read without stumbling over a single word, because she believed that God was bigger than her illiteracy. And He proved Himself to her and to me, time and time again, through the pages of His Word. It’s God’s love letter to us, and I will never take my easy access to it for granted.
Source: Free copy from B and H Publishing for the purpose of review 1. All the text is easy to read. The text is nine point, but what set it apart for me is it's in bold print. I've noticed it is not easy to identify in a Bible the type font style, nor the text size. I have to research a bit online to find this information. I wear bifocals and up-close reading is my weakest vision problem. Bold print helps. 2. The introduction chapter set the tone for me in this bible. The men and women who edited this edition love God's word, and believe it is the Holy inspired Word of God. In an age, where so many have walked away from believing and trusting in the Bible as God's breathed word, I'm more than pleased with the team of contributors in stating several times through the introduction chapters, the Bible is God's Word for mankind. "The Christian religion rests fundamentally on the belief that God has chosen to reveal Himself to a human race that is estranged from Him. God has done this not only through miraculous signs, sweeping acts of providence, and the life and words of Jesus Christ, but through 66 writings collectively known as the Bible." Page ix 3. "How to read and Study the Bible", is included as an introduction chapter. The seven page summary explains: why we should read the Bible, how to read it well, pray before reading, how to study the Bible deeper, encouragement to read the Bible daily, questions to ask while reading, and the theme of Scripture. 4. There are two chapters on the history of the OT and NT. Several questions are addressed which people can sometimes stumble on, for example: "Do We Have the Right Books?" The history of the NT, which is placed in the Bible before beginning the NT books, addresses a few apologetic points, for example the NT books only became sacred later because Christians had forgotten how they had "originated". 5. "Footnotes" are given on each NT page to reveal the "variants" from the Greek NT. "NU-Text" or "M-Text" will be shown with the defining difference. 6. Nineteen charts are given, for example a chart of David's family (wives, children, grandchildren) and located just before the book of 1 Samuel. Another chart located in the book of Luke which defines, "The Apostles and Their History". 7. The pages are a matte finish and easy to turn.
Over-all, I found the Holman Study Bible NKJV: visually appealing, easy to use, the order of additional information is well-presented, edifying, and encourages further reading and study of Bible. The Holman Study Bible NKJV is a remarkable Bible.
Reading the Bible daily has helped me grow in my faith. I highly recommend that if you are a Christian to read the scriptures daily. You need to know what you claim to believe. This specific Bible with the study notes was very useful in my studying.
After around 2 years, I've finally read the collective works of the #selling book in human history-the Christian bible. Beginning in the new testament with Matthew and rerouting to Genesis through Malachi, I don't want to boast so, I won't. Because its not about me. Its about this book- the Word of God. Anyone can do it. I had no idea how wrong I was about countless assumptions about Christianity and the opinions and thoughts of God. Not being raised in any religion but simply vague concepts of God and spirituality, this journey has and will forever be to me, a spiritual food to be consumed daily. If you are still following my reviews and see my dramatic change from new age to Jesus, please watch this part 1 of a 3 part documentary series that drove my heart to question everything I believed and was complacent to accept in my former life. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjmFm... I pray it blesses you and you are 'pricked in your heart'.
The commentary in this Bible was very enlightening. It stayed away from the doctrine of any one church. This was well worth the time it took me to read everything!
Greatest book ever written. I’m a little disappointed it took me so long to read it all the way through, but I’m looking forward to reading it many more times over again.
Love this study Bible, packed with study notes and essays and historical background for each book. Love the colorful maps. Concordance is an extra as well. Worth the money invested in this. Cover is very flexible almost like faux leather but very sturdy. Had this binle since 2019 and it's holding up very well. The best part is it's the word of GOD and knowing the word is essential if you want to be rooted in a solid truthful foundation and it will grow your relationship with the Savior. There's nothing better than JESUS, so don't waste any more time not reading your Bible. The Kingdom of GOD is at Hand and The Bridegroom (JESUS) IS COMING BACK FOR HIS BRIDE ( THE CHURCH)! HALLELUJAH!

It's the Bible!! (I will be reading this for the rest of my life.) This one in particular is wonderful because of the thoughtful comments, full color pictures, organization, hardcover and more. I am greatly enjoying this Bible!
I received a review copy from B&H Publishers for the NKJV Study Bible, Black Leather edition.
By far my favorite translation, so no complaints there. I feel the NKJV, ESV and NASB are the best but I give an edge to the NKJV as I find it the most literal.
As for the study Bible itself, the genuine leather is nice! The feel of it is great and it seems very durable! The pages (unlike in most study Bibles) are nice and thick, not practically see through as is the case with the ESV study Bible.
There are word studies which are very nice along with some pretty good articles which is to be expected when you have contributors like Craig Blomberg, Crag A. Evans and Daniel B. Wallace.
The only negative I see with this study Bible are the notes. They are quite basic and don't address many passages that one would desire them to. For example, you won't find anything in the notes on the oft misunderstood Hebrews 10:26. If this study Bible didn't dodge addressing many difficult passages then it would probably be the best on the market. This is where it's lacking in my opinion.
All in all, a really nice study Bible that I would give 4 stars out of 5.
I read a different translation of the Bible every year. This one is by far the best study Bible I have read. Chock full of maps, pictures, commentary, & easy to read. I really enjoyed this translation. I've read KJV, NIV, & ESV so far and I'm going to read this version again for next year
