Perfect aim. Steady hands. Lonely heart. She longs for human contact but her minister, her protector, assures her there are no good people left. None but him.Lia remains innocent and sheltered even after the dead begin to walk. Civilization crumbled but still she is obedient. Quiet. Chaste.Until Call. The president of the Devil's Ashes Motorcycle Club saves her one night from a swarm of hungry corpses. But he's a danger himself, ever tempting her to trust in him and leave the memories of her old life behind. The remains of the world itself conspire to keep them apart. A madman whose hold on Lia won't die. A rival gang bent on destroying Call and his men. The mindless hunger of the dead, ever gathering into larger herds. Their own fears and their pasts nipping at their heels. Is there room for love at the end of the world? this novel contains violence, explicit language, and graphic sexual content.
I liked the previous book 'Roads End' but I liked this one more, it was also longer which helps. This is set after the apocalypse, zombies are roaming and making life difficult for the living, there's two MC groups the Devil's Ashes, the good guys and the Satan's Remains, the not-so-good guys although in this book we get some idea of just how not-good they really are. This book opens on a farm where a very creepy 'priest' lives with his son and six virgins, I did say he was creepy, plus he has the whole brainwashing, atoning for your sins punishment thing going on. He's definitely a do as I say not as I do kinda guy, he tends to the spiritual needs but he's also taught all the girls plus his son to fight, so when danger comes they're as ready as they can be and danger comes in the form of a huge mass of zombies heading straight for them. I have to say I'm really enjoying this series, hot bikers, rival club, zombies and girls who can out-shoot the guys. Just waiting for the next one now.
Zombies, bikers, kick butt virgins that can shoot between the eyes from any distance during a horrible apocalypse. What's not to like.
Well, there is some freaky crap going on with a dirty freak nasty priest. That dude and his so called cleansing made me want to break something. He and the naive virgins is what brought the book down a star.
The MC's were perfect and I loved how the main heroines character developed and became someone strong. The hero was sexy and a good guy. The sex was alright.
The blurb says it all will there be enough time for romance? The truth is no. Yes, we see a connection between Lia and Call but nothing major. I liked their story but I didn't love it. Partially because it's a short story and we don't get to experience the love affair until the very end. So, if you're looking for romance, you'll get 30% of it and the rest deals with a lot of other stuff.
Buddy read time with hipnoticraQs. Zombie biker romance, which is isn't such an odd mix, considering the popularity of certain characters from the much loved and often maligned series TWD. This doesn't quite reach the more epic, awesome scale that is Kate L. Mary's Broken World series, but it's a fun read nonetheless. Particularly with a good buddy. There's more emphasis provided to the sex scenes than the zombie scenes, which are pretty antiseptic and bland. Unless of course, you're a gun enthusiast. Then you get lots of chicks in shorts with guns. :)
This one was a tough one to rate. I liked both characters, Lia and Call. I liked the world and the plot...but I didn't like that after about 50% of the book, Lia and Call spend very little time together. In the course of maybe a couple of weeks, they spend maybe a day together. He's busy with MC stuff and of course the zombies. I wish they spent more time building a relationship to make the ending make more sense. I will probably still read more books in this series as they come out.
The world building was interesting 3.5 stars I wish the story had been a bit more fleshed out. What caused the corpses to rise? How did she end up on the farm (maybe I missed that I will admit) how did the others? How did her partner end up the prez of the club? What happened to the minister?
Definitely were some icky scenes of abuse which were interesting and gave the cult feel to the story. Be mindful if you have any history of domestic or sexual abuse. Basically skipped the sex scenes so I can’t comment on the spice. For a late night easy read recommend but if you are looking for something a bit more fleshed out don’t recommend.
Also not a happily ever after more of a happily ever for now with no epilogue. Which was a super bummer because it somewhat ended on a cliffhanger.
I really enjoyed this book, and am sad that there aren't more of them. There is plenty of room for additional stories to be told. I didn't realize it was the second book when I started it, but it works well as a standalone as you meet the characters from book 1 but it doesn't give anything away. I thought there was a good mix of grit, humor, innocence, and violence. It has a touch of dark, but there's enough light at the end of the tunnel that you know it's going in the right direction.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were complex and interesting stories, though I would have liked to know more. I didn't always quite agree with Lia's actions, but I totally understood them because of her upbringing, especially during critical years. I would have liked to know more about Call, but since this was from Lia' pov, we didn't get much. The plot was good; interesting. The build up to the sex, the first couple of encounters was hawt; the actual sex left something to be desired. But that was ok, because the plot and characters were interesting. I thought the concept of post-apocalyptic bikers interesting, especially with the zombies. I have never read a story like this. And though I have a few questions about what led them to this point, I can look past that.I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
I enjoyed this story it was so out there that it didn't seem impossible. Although it did seem every women was brainwashed. Call is a leader of a MC and he is trying to be the hero unfortunately there are many obstacles in his way. Lia is a virgin stuck under a religious group scared of every man. I want to say she woke up and lived a great life with Call but we all know better. If it was that easy we would only need 1 chapter. Overall it had the goriness that a zombie story needed. It also had the men who were power hungry. Let's not forget the maniac who is obsessed with the girl.
I have read this book a few times and absolutely love it....there are many strong characters in this book, both good and bad...ones you absolutely love, and those you love to hate. Love in the apocalypse, only biker style....throw in a wonky cult and some even wonkier adversaries and, well, you have this book. Its everything good and bad in the apocalypse...an absolute must read.
I would give it 10 stars if I could... ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ him, guess I just did!!!
""What happens to the local MC when zombies take over the world?"" Take 2: once again I really enjoyed this I love MC stories but this one has an epic zombie twist on things so its an extra fun read though I am kinda bummed that the first book was so short I am however glad this one is longer I hope this author does a full series with this theme as I am getting a huge kick out of it ... ;)
I would really love this story written as a book! It's a great story, but I want more of it- I think the series should be one really awesome post apocalyptic ride! Really good job fluffing out your characters, Britten thorne❣
A good quick read, I was looking for something different. But I found this was misssing some details an glossed over some things that make a novel move you.
Lia is part of a cult, basically. Although it is very small, the 'priest' has brainwashed some virgins into thinking that he and his sons are the only 'good' men left. Along comes Call, when she needs saving from the Z's, and it goes from there. Not a bad short story.
