A Klepto Cat Mystery #5

The Colony Cat Caper

Rate this book
Savannah Ivey, a veterinarian out on maternity leave; her aunt Margaret, the founder of the Hammond Cat Alliance; and Colbi Stanton, a reporter for the local newspaper take on a cat colony at an old, abandoned building. Odd activity around the place makes them wonder if it actually is vacant; some believe it’s occupied by something other-worldly. When a stranger comes to town and suggests the Alliance open the old building to a fund-raiser, everyone gets involved, including Rags, Savannah’s kleptomaniac cat. He finds something that day that stirs a lot of people—both law-abiding and crooks—into action. Are the feral cats and their caretakers in serious danger? What (or who) lurks inside the old building? What secrets does it hide? And who has the key that unlocks the mystery?

Another great mystery awaits readers in the latest installment of the Klepto Cat Mystery series by Patricia Fry. The Hammond Cat Alliance wants to do something about the feral cat colonies in the area and decide to set up teams to "adopt' the colonies so that the cats can be fed and vetted. Margaret, Colbi and Savannah decide to volunteer to take care of a feral colony out at the old Fischer building, an abandoned warehouse that has been rumored to be haunted. Right off the bat Colbi sees something in one of the windows that she can't explain, but that doesn't stop the gang from trying to take care of the cats by catching neutering and releasing them. Thing is someone is sabotaging their work, by turning the cats loose as soon as they are caught. When they get a call from a woman who offers to help the Cat Alliance with a fundraising idea by having a flea market in the old building it sounds like a good idea, that is until Rags finds something in the building that ties to an old crime. Soon Savannah and the gang find themselves in the middle of a crime investigation, one that just might turn deadly!

Each time I pick up a new book in the Klepto Cat Mystery series I feel like I am catching up with old friends, while meeting a few new ones! I have watched as the characters have grown and changed as each story progressed. The romance that was developing between Colbi and Damon in a previous book continues to grow, and I am anxious to see where the author takes it with the next book in the series. Savannah is just weeks from giving birth and of course Rags the Klepto Cat is the star of the story. A pawsativly page turning mystery that was filled with plenty of twists and turns kept me guessing right up till the end, and I must say the twist at the end was surprising, and very well done! While I enjoyed the mystery Ms. Fry provides with each story I think the characters, family, friendships, and love of animals makes this one of my favorite series to read. Cat lovers are sure to love this entire series, but honestly anyone who enjoys a clean, well written cozy mystery that blends suspense, mystery, romance together with a page turning plot will find The Colony Cat Caper a purfect read. I have read each book in the series and highly recommend each one! My only complaint is that I have to wait for book six!

Pretty good although not the usual type of mystery. Relies heavily on set-in-future first scene to grab the reader, but that scene is quite far in. Would read more--hopefully rest of series is more interesting without that kind of trick.

The Colony Cat Caper (Klepto Cat Mystery #5)
by Patricia Fry

This was a quick and easy read. It was the first of the series that I've read, so as it's #5, there was some back story that I've missed out on. However, I enjoyed the book, and it reads fine as a stand alone. That, coupled with the fact that the editing and proofreading was very well done, garnered it the 4th star.

This episode revolves around the main characters forming the Hammond Cat Alliance, a rescue group formed to help those caring for feral cat clowders. (Note, I did find it disappointing that, in a book written about caring for clowders, that word, or the lesser known word kindle -- ironic, eh? -- is never used, just colony. Hmm.) Our particular characters are caring for a group of cats living on the grounds of an abandoned business, the owner having suffered an injury which left him without the mental or physical ability to care for himself. Rags, the main cat character, does what cats do -- acts mysterious and finds (and steals) interesting objects. In his case, these objects often are clues in mysteries.

As our characters go about the feeding, trapping and providing medical care and socialization for the feral cats, mysterious things begin to happen. Who or what is it that they see in the windows of the abandoned building when they are there, especially at night? Who or what is springing the traps set to trap the feral cats? Who are all these strange people who keep approaching them to try and shoo them off the property, even after they obtain permission to enter from the owner's attorney? And why do they want the to leave? What mysteries does the history of this property and its owner hold?

Do danger and intrigue lurk on these abandoned grounds? Or is it just a spooky place around which urban legends have grown? You'll have to read it to find out!

I really liked this book. The characters were well fleshed out. As I said earlier, even though I jumped in to the series in the middle, I easily was able to see relationships, pick up on things that had happened earlier in the series, and get to know and care about the characters involved. Will I read more of the series? I don't know. I read several cat-related series as it is and I have a Kindle full to the brim of books to read. Maybe -- it seems to me to be a series worth checking out.

4 STARS

The Colony Cat is the fifth book in the series. Now I have read all 5 and have enjoyed reading them. I enjoy the characters both the human and pets. They are fun to see what they are up too. The mysteries are good and keep you guessing. They are a clean read. There is plenty of drama, danger and mystery in The Colony Cat.

In The Colony Cat taught a lot about wild cats. I have lived with some wild cats before it is interesting about them. Also about the different cat breeds.

The Colony Cat is filled with characters both human and animals that we have met before in other Klepto Cat Mysteries books. There is also a lot of new characters introduced.

Savannah and her friends are trying to help manage wild cat colonies. Savannah, Maggie and Colbi are going to take care of a cat colony at a old wear house. First they plan to observe them and then trap them for medical help and feed them. While they are out there they keep having strangers come and try and run them off. There are rumors it is even haunted.

Of course Rags is still stealing and finding clues about what is going on around Savannah. This time he turns up diamonds.

Savannah is married to Micheal Ivey. They are both vets. Savannah is taken off because she is almost ready to have her baby.

Rags is one of Savannah's cat. He has a talent for helping to solve crimes and for stealing stuff out of purses and pockets of those he comes in contact with.

Maggie is Savannah's aunt. She is into helping cats in a big way. She belongs to a group that is willing to help cats. Her new husband Max owns a cat sanctuary.

Colbi is a newspaper writer and loves cats too. She also writes a cat blog. She belongs to the same group as Savannah and Maggie that helps cats.

If you love cats, cozy mysteries this series you will enjoy. I am more a dog person myself but am enjoying all these cat characters and there personalities. Also learning little things at the same time.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it when I had finished reading by the author.

Book Readers Review
Another excellent book in the Klepto Cat Mysteries Series. The author Patricia Fry has the knack of drawing the reader right into the circle of family, friends, and animals who star in the stories. All books in the series are stand alone adventures allowing the reader to pick up a book at any time, in any order. I love to read and meet old and new friends and see how they progress in their lives and adventures. Characters and their lives do have a developmental line that grows throughout the series and new ones are introduced. It is always interesting to read an early book and learn more about the people and animals and their beginnings.
The Colony Cat Caper is a fast paced, suspenseful adventure, with lots of mystery and romance. If you love a challenge and solving mysteries then do not miss this book in Patricia’s series. You will fall in love with Rags the Klepto cat, the star who likes to acquire interesting objects and stash them away. But Rags picks up on many clues helping his humans solve the crime. Once hooked, you will want to read every single book. I do! Highly recommended for any age.

This cozy Klepto cat mystery has improved since I last read one of the series. The characters had more depth. The covers cat colonies how they are form and goes into ways to help the cats. People have been seeing ghost and strange creatures near the abandoned building for a number of years. The Hammond Cat Alliance takes on the job of feeding the cats around the village. Rags is brought to site and find a white bag of stolen gems. Savannah is pregnant and on maternity leave. I will read this series again.

I love cats and mysteries so it was hard not to enjoy this book especially since it was a cat that helped solve the mystery! A mixture of a group trying to capture feral cats and getting involved with murder and jewel thieves made for an interesting story.
