As of this writing, five of the nine Cavanaugh Series Books to release in 2014 are published, with the remainder to come out over the next months – followed by the remaining four in 2015. Though the trilogy: Mystic Thunder, Touch of Lightning, and Tempest’s Embrace must be read in order, and in their entirety, to solve the two major quests the characters are burdened with, the remaining books will stand alone. However, each subsequent book’s characters build from the ones that came before. (They are a family, after all!)

This was my first book by JC Wardon and I'm happy to say it was pretty good. Sweet romance, horrifying relationship between the bad guy and his wife, a mystery that remains unsolved throughout the book (continues in next book), a little bit of paranormal, and a couple LOL moments. It was engaging enough to make we want to read the next two books in the trilogy about Rayne's sisters.

Great start

I was not sure about the start of this book. The sisters are not portrayed in a very good light. Destiny seems very cold and bossy. Rayne is just so weak you want to smack her, and Haven is just as bad. Rayne improves impossibly fast with a change of location.
The story has really bad transitions between the sisters and their vague feelings of doom, that they vocalize, and Rayne hanging out with Indian ghosts. The missing teen is supposed to tie everything together but it just doesn't.

4.5, but couldn't shade in half a star.

Mystic Thunder is the first book in the series and the debut novel of talented author, J.C. Wardon. The Mystic Waters series focuses on the Cavanaugh Sisters, identical triplets, their unusual skills, heritage, and the curse. Each sister has a usual ability that affects the world and her ability to deal with it. The curse that hangs over all three of the sisters is the inability to find love and have a lasting relationship.

This isn't a matter of perception either, since the Cavanaugh women have wrestled with the same issue for the last thousand years. Obviously, there's been enough interaction to beget more Cavanaugh women, but never enough to keep the man or save him from a tragic death. The women are a bit like black widow spiders in that regard, if a spider could get its heart broken. The curse sets the three apart causing them to depend on one another for love and companionship.

At the start of the book, Rayne finds herself betrayed by a man she thought she loved. He reveals her psychic abilities to speak to the dead after she solves a high profile crime. Not being able to bear the hurt and the resulting media circus, she flees the city for the tiny town of Mystic Waters. It is her first time away from her sisters. It is her plan to rest and relax, but Mystic Waters has mysteries and voices of its own, and a particularly sexy, but difficult man intrigues her, even though she knows any affection between the two of them will end in heartbreak or death, possibly her own.

The novel moved along at a good pace. The idea of triplets, even a series of them over the centuries interested me. Similar to twins, they can sense when one another is in trouble. Ms. Wardon did the courtesy of making them each very distinct personalities. She showed the dark side of their talents too. It is important to read the books in sequence because there is the initial mystery of the missing boy woven throughout the story. It makes more sense if read in order. I am looking forward to reading more from this talented author.
