This second installment of the Olivia Chronicles is a tighter read, and it keeps the pace throughout the story. The characters become more defined in this book, and the descriptions of some of the areas of New Orleans brought back great memories of visits there.
While gay/lesbian vampire fiction may not be for everyone, I think that most readers would appreciate the dynamics between the characters regardless. The flashbacks make great connections with the Dracula story with which everyone is familiar, but it focuses on the "weird sisters" mentioned in Stoker's novel that is rarely investigated. The sisters always seemed to be an aside in Dracula, which is populated with mostly male characters who work on "saving" the women. It's much more interesting to focus on the perspective of the women in the story, and I'm hoping that the third book will explore this even more.
Like the first book, this was a quick, enjoyable read, but it demonstrates a stronger voice. Looking forward to reading more from this author!
