Three years ago, Grace—the woman who made my world brighter, who laughed at my corny jokes and chased every adventure with me—vanished without a trace. No clues. No answers. Just an empty, aching silence.
Until a call from a doctor in Mexico changes everything. She’s alive. But she doesn’t remember me—or herself. Still, when I’m close, she leans toward me, a small, instinctive motion that feels like a promise.
Her memories return in shattered fragments—pieces of the life we built tangled with shadows too dark for her to face alone. All I can do is hold her. Protect her. Love her.
And I’ll burn down the world before I let the men who took her touch her again.
Grace
“Your husband is here.”
Those words should mean safety. Instead, they terrify me. I don’t remember my name, my age, or any of the terrible things the doctor says happened to me.
AJ’s wild blue eyes and whiskey-smooth voice draw me in, a steady anchor against the panic. And when he holds me? I feel safe.
The past comes back in fragments—charcoal sketches on paper, flashes of laughter and touch, sensations swallowed by shadow. Never enough to make me whole.
AJ looks at me like I’m his everything, and I want—I need—to believe a love that deep can survive anything.
But with every memory comes fear. The men who stole me once might try again. As I struggle to piece myself back together, one thing is AJ will risk everything to keep me safe. And maybe—just maybe—I’ll find my way back to him before it’s too late.

In theory, this sounded so good with a 40 something married couple who are deeply in love and together for over 20 years but get separated for 3 years because FMC gets kidnapped. This high-stakes, race-against-time romantic suspense should have been ultra-compelling but unfortunately the execution fell short of its potential because of the excessive melodrama and repetitive internal dialogues, slow pacing and underdeveloped characters. The twists and reveals were eye-rolling and contrived, requiring a huge suspension of disbelief. The constant beatings & broken body parts FMC endured became tedious and boring.
So we have a hubby who is a cop who works with his brother and is waiting to be made a Captain. His wife, the FMC is a school teacher, artist and training to run on a marathon. It is on one of her runs that she gets kidnapped by cult leader because he sees a tattoo on her that he thinks is part of a prophesy to get more power or some such nonsense. His plan is to kill her in 3 years time. So while she is held captive by this leader, we get chapter after chapter for more than half of the story at about 30-40% or so when I finally DNF'd of her being beaten and having a new body part broken (i.e. being punched in the face and elsewhere, cut on the cheek, knifed on the side, broken knee, smashed skull, poisoned and so on. At some point, as a reader I wondered what would be left of her when/if she finally made it back to hubby. Lol.
I love me a strong/kick-ass FMC and this one was not it. We have a moment of rebellion at the beginning of her kidnapping where she basically curses the baddies out and a half-lame attempt to rescue herself only to flop like a pancake and all throughout the story, her POV is constantly of a wounded/helpless/feel sorry for me persona and that is just not jamming for me.
Then we have the MMC. For a "Hero" and a cop to boot, where the heck was he for the 40% of the story? All he did was whine about how he is loosing hope of ever finding his wife. We never see him do anything to find her. In fact, we are told the Feds or someone is handling the investigation and when they give up, he just gives up too. 😵💫 Plus, he doesn't even get to rescue his wife either and that is when I had enough because the MMC should have been the one to find and rescue her, not someone else!
Another problem? We get literarily no scenes with them before she gets kidnapped other than a brief conversation and a single sex scene, and no past scenes to show us (instead of telling) that they are true soulmates & in love.
Anyway, at the point I left it at, FMC was found by someone else and MCs reunited but now she has amnesia and doesn't remember MMC because of the cracked skull and trauma she suffered. I'll just leave at this point as it doesn't hold my interest anymore and I really don't want to hear any more whining.
SAFETY:
-MCs met in college 20 years prior and have been married for 18 years. -No kids but they do have a beloved dog. No mention why they don't have any kids. - FMC was not raped or sexually abused during her kidnapping - just beaten up and poisoned constantly. She was basically the kidnapper's sacrificial lamb. 🙄 - MMC supposedly celibate because even though his brother wanted him to move on and start dating, he got mad at him and stopped talking to him because he was not ready to give up on his wife.
Two stars only because I don't think they are with anyone else and no OP drama in the form of any ex's.
What an emotional rollercoaster. This book tugged at my heart and had me completely and utterly enthralled. Such a long book but I read this so fast- this book is the perfect definition of unputdownable!
A fantastic emotional yet suspenseful read, I adored it!
Grace and AJ had a true love that just couldn’t be beaten! I loved their found family too. The girls supporting Grace were perfect, everyone needs friends like them.
I really hope we get Parker’s story soon, she was amazing!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. That’s about the only coherent sentence I can write about this book as I do not have words. But I’ll make do anyway - grace and AJ are happy as can be, married for ages and just enjoying life to it’s fullest. Until one day everything is ripped apart. When she’s been kidnapped, his world stopped. Days passed, weeks, months. Those months turned into years. Almost three of them - until he gets a call. And everything is turned upside down once again. I think it’s safe to say, that this might be one of the authors most heartwrenching stories she ever got on paper - and I though „second sight“ or „fighting for valor“ were tough. A absolutely great story, though disastrous. Just wow.
Thank you to Patricia Eddy and her team for the chance to read this ARC... I enjoyed this story so much. The relationships. The banter. The action. The love. There are so many emotions in this book you won't know if you should laugh or cry. I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait to get more of Parker and Harrison!!! This is another amazing found family being built.
Grace and AJ’s story is just perfection. Three years after Grace is kidnapped she is found. AJ is beside himself as her husband and a Texas Ranger he has worked on her case every day. The clincher is Grace has no memory, of anything before or after her abduction. Throughout this story Grace slowly heals, some memories return, she learns how loved she is. Yet there is so much more, more action, more intrigue and a lot of clues to follow before all is said and done. Love the found family, the love and care Grace and AJ receive and most of all the peaceful ending.
I am at a loss for words. This is probably the hardest review I have written in years. When I opened this, I did not expect to fill so helpless and broken while reading Grace and AJ’s story. I’m sorry for not saying much about this book but I will tell you, words will not do it justice! I am keeping my review vague but with enough that will keep you wanting more.
Grace finds herself trapped in a place that deemed her as the sacrifice needed for their salvation. Facing struggles every single day but determined not to lose herself but as time goes on and the end draws near, she finds it harder to remember who she is. The pain and suffering she endured for years and then coming home and struggling with everyday things, things we take for granted, she takes with determination.
Seeing AJ’s struggle with his life for years without his wife and no idea what happened to her was gut-wrenching. He never gave up home on her or finding her, even when everyone else did. Getting the call that she was found, AJ stopped at nothing to get to her.
Watching these 2 find their lives again was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Knowing that Grace was still in danger, AJ found a family in his co-workers that he didn’t know was there and Grace found hope in the midst of the storm.
So apparently Patricia D. Eddy doesn’t believe in emotional safety nets, because Stone’s Throw didn’t just break me—it set up camp in my chest and refused to leave.
Grace and AJ’s story? Holy emotional warfare, Batman. She’s an artist and survivor who’s been missing for three years. He’s a Texas Ranger husband who’s been searching every damn day. When she’s finally found—with no memory of who she is—the reunion isn’t the happy ending. It’s the starting line for heartbreak, healing, and a second-chance love story that hurts in the best possible way.
I read this book not once, not twice, but three times just to soak up every word, every tear, every quiet miracle Patricia wove into these pages. I ugly-cried into my boobs. I highlighted whole chapters. And yes, I absolutely stalked this release like it was a Target drop-day exclusive from my emotional support author.
The suspense is tight, the found family hits like a hug and a gut punch at the same time, and the love story? It’s raw, relentless, and so damn human it’ll hollow you out. Eddy doesn’t just write romance—she performs emotional surgery and leaves you begging for more.
Bottom line: Stone’s Throw isn’t a read. It’s a reckoning. Bring tissues, hydration, and a therapist on standby. Patricia D. Eddy is my queen, my religion, and my next re-read—because once is never enough.
Reading an ARC copy of Stone’s Throw was an experience I won’t soon forget. It’s not a simple tearjerker. It’s a full-on snot fest that needs a big box of tissue on hand. My heart broke so many times for Grace and AJ. Imagine you go for a run and disappear. There are absolutely no clues left for your Texas Ranger husband to follow, and he’s devastated. Three years later you turn up in Mexico with amnesia and severe physical injuries. How do you even begin to put your life back together? I enjoyed the complexity of this story. The pieces fit together beautifully. Grace’s kidnapping and the suspense surrounding it pull you in. Add in her recovery and rebuilding her relationship with her husband, and it adds unforgettable depth to the story. My favorite part was how falling in love a second time around was sweeter. They chose each other all over again. The tragedy may have damaged them, but they refused to break. The found family that came together to rescue and support both of them weren't just side characters. I felt like I knew a lot about them by the end of the story. Patricia D. Eddy has always captivated her readers with her broken characters and how love heals them, but this one took it to another level.
Oh boy what a read and don’t let how long it is deter you from flipping these pages, every chapter, paragraph, sentence and word is soooooo worth it. AJ had his wife disappear and years later he finally hears the words….your wife is alive. But she doesn’t remember anything, left for dead with her skull crushed, poisoned and stabbed her life is a blank slate, not remembering her life or AJ. Grace is scared and alone, not knowing what happened and who to trust but she feels safe with AJ and leans on him. AJ is doing what he can to figure out what happened, all those years gone and has no idea who or why she was taken but this time around he is not letting her go again. He has help now and all his research throughout the years while she had been gone may have the answers and he will do whatever it takes to keep Grace safe. Loved this read, suspense, heartache, heartbreak, emotions, love and reconnecting and falling in love all over again…so great. The strength and resiliency of Grace…wow…and AJ…we finally get to see the man he really is. The story flowed beautifully and not one word was wasted or not needed, with descriptions that were spot on. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Wow, just wow. This book has it all and then some. “Stone’s Throw” is an emotional, healing and action packed “I will do whatever I need to do to protect you” romantic suspense that was a true page turner.
We had gotten a little bit of AJ from the previous book in the series and I’m so glad he got his story next. AJ and Grace are a married couple who are truly meant to be. And when Grace is kidnapped, AJ knows no bounds on trying to get Grace back. Grace went through absolute torture but doesn’t remember anything from the trauma. Grace has a slow road of recovery in front of her and AJ is the strength to get her through it all. This book is an emotional rollercoaster in all the best ways as they heal and find the people responsible. Grace and AJ are both strong but stronger together. My heart broke but was also healed from reading this incredible story. I loved having Jasper and the rest of the crew have a heavy presence in this story and Parker was an instant favorite for me. The plot twists were great and the action had me on the edge of my seat as I read this story. Another true masterpiece from Patricia D. Eddy.
Stone’s Throw is an absolutely epic read. Full of drama, suspense, action, terror, heartbreak, healing, and so much love, this story takes you through every emotion and rips you apart, then puts you back together one piece at a time. AJ is a dynamite leading man—the quintessential alpha protector hero with a heart of gold for his one and only. Grace is bold, brave, strong—a fighter and a survivor rolled up with the biggest heart. I love that the author builds their story and history, then drops in the trauma and heartache, terror and determination. As the aftermath unfolds one twisted moment at a time, we really get to know each of the amazing supporting characters and watch this found family grow. The third act drama is heart stopping, and the ending left me breathless.
We got glimpses and parts of this couple’s journey in Blade’s Edge (the first book in this series; it is also awesome and a must read), but the full picture exceeded anything I could have possibly imagined. Not for the faint of heart, this full length novel is dynamic, compelling, and complex. Once I started this book, I could not put it down until I read the very last word. Patricia Eddy, this is a masterpiece!
Words cannot express exactly how good this book is. Patricia Eddy knows the best ways to put a couple through trauma and help them on the road to healing in such a realistic way, you feel every emotion. AJ's despair at losing his wife and his inability to find her, Grace's trying to survive in a cult where she was held for almost three years, and when she is found, the mountains he will climb to bring her home and keep her safe. It. Was. Incredible. After AJ basically withdrew from life, he finds unexpected help in his twin, his twin's girlfriend, Parker, and Nate. Along with helpful friends who AJ helped in the past, as read in previous books. This family sticks together to be a wall of protection around the couple as they try to figure out where Grace was held and protect her from them coming back to get her. The banter was perfect and gave a much needed comedy break from the tension. While I still have my favorites from the AFK series, this ranks up in the top favorites of Patty's.
Oh my, if this book isn't number one, I don't know what book would be. This was truly excellent. Danger, drama and filled with romance and emotions.
This is about Grace, the wife is Texas Ranger AJ who disappears for three years and gets found.
The mystery and danger that kept crossing their path really made the story. It was also the issues she faces and the unrelenting love AJ has for Grace. It was more than evident he adored her. And that emotion really was so well displayed in the book. Even though that had been married for many years, it was like they were starting again.
I also loved the back up team for the couple. They are all so supportive and had that team spirit. Such a scary situation handled so well.
Beautifully written with a plot i enjoyed immensely. All the characters were fantastic and makes me want to go back and read the others again.
Honestly I cant rave enough about this book. Couldn't drag me away from it and I sure didn't want it to end. What do i read now? Brilliant!!
OMG what a book! I could not put it down. After being reluctant to start what I knew was going to be a heart-wrenching dive into waters no one wants to hear about, I found I could not tear myself away once I started. AJ is a Texas Ranger who just made captain. When he tries to contact his wife Grace to give her the good news, she doesn't answer. She is not anywhere. For 3 years she is just gone and he has no answers. Grace, in the meantime, refuses to give up on AJ and will keep holding strong, no matter how much her captors try to break her. When she is found, nearly dead, AJ will burn down the world to keep her safe and find those who did this. Since Grace can't remember anything, this job is especially difficult, but with the help of a few trusted Ranger, his brother, and friends from a range of expertise, nothing will keep Grace and AJ apart. Theirs is truly a love for the ages.
Texas ranger AJ lost his wife but he has never given up hope of finding her again and he has shown his devotion with his years-long struggle and refusal to give up provides a powerful counter-narrative to Grace's suffering, emphasizing the strength of their bond. Meanwhile Grace knows her struggle isn't just about surviving a physical ordeal but the deeper, more profound battle to maintain her identity and will The determination she shows in overcoming the effects of her trauma, even in simple, everyday tasks, is highly compelling. Can these two reconnect when she has no memory of AJ This is basically a story about reconnecting not only with your blood family but also your found family
Like all of Patricia's story this is a deeply emotional read that in parts will have you grabbing the tissues but overall it is a story of hope
Stone's Throw is one of those books that stays with you long after you finished. AJ and Grace's story is both heart wrenching and heart pounding as Grace is grabbed while out for a run and is missing for several years, and her Texas Ranger husband, AJ, searches for her. Their story is action-packed all the way through and full of all of the emotions of Grace's disappearance and lost memory upon her return. It has the feels from all of AJ's searching and anguish, plus the twists and turns of looking for the people who took her as Grace heals from her trauma. I love the care and compassion AJ always has for Grace, but also the found family that continually rallies around them both. Stone's Throw is a page turner from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down for a second.
"There never has been—and never will be—anyone else for me but you.”
Be ready for a book that keeps you so engrossed that you can't break away from reading it. A.J. Stone's wife has been missing for three years when she turns up in a clinic in Mexico with brain damage and no memory of what happened for those previous 3 years. What happens next is an emotional rollercoaster as A.J. and Grace get to know each other as a couple again and try to keep Grace safe from her kidnappers. As with all of PED's I love her characters and enjoy seeing several members of the team involved in the this book. I also enjoyed her realistic portrayal of recovering from TBI and amnesia and it's no simply another whack on the head and you recall everything as they portray it on television.
I thought that Second Sight by Patricia Eddy was going to be my only love of her books but I was proven wrong!
This is my new favorite book of hers!
It takes that special love to endure hardships, not only in war or combat, but the war that we deal within us. Grace and AJ proves this. That love is through thick or thin, sickness and in health. They never gave up.
I had to pause several times to wipe my tears and then cheer out loud the next.
I am very grateful to have received a copy so I can share my review with the world.
Thank you Patricia and please keep on writing because you keep the flame alive and hope that love is possible, even for us that are broken.
This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. A.J. and Grace's love is solid. When Grace is kidnapped, A.J. never stops looking for her even though his brother tells him it is time to let go. When Grace is found with no recollection of who she is or where she has been it is A,J's love that keeps her strong. The mystery, danger, intrigue, romance and love of family and friends makes this story a page turner. I will admit it is longer than I am used to, but once you start reading you will be immersed in their world and time will fly. I loved A.J's friends and family coming to their aide despite many obstacles and I look forward to more stories in this series.
Do you love extremely emotional stories?- ya know the rip your heart out, stutter you to a stop at times as you GENUINELY FEEL what the characters feel, ring you out just to put you back together again. Well if this is your jam, then I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait to get ahold of it in audio in the future to have my heart rip to shreds again. If you are a Patricia fan like me, then you probably were itching for AJ and Jasper's stories when we first got a taste of them awhile back. Then when Jasper's book came out, I couldn't wait for AJ's because I knew it would be good. But holy wow, it surpassed even my greatest dreams. AMAZING! It is my favorite of hers now- I say it even passed what I considered my favorite until now, although I am thinking, since the other is one of her Paranormal books, hence a totally different genre, maybe they can actually share top billing? But even so, I think this holds the top. Prepare yourself for all the feels, but go read!
This was the second book in the series. You won't be lost if you don't read the first one. But it was absolutely amazing so why wouldn't you? The characters are so well developed and realistic that I felt like I was part of the group. A.J. and Grace have the kind of love we all dream of. The emotions hit just right. If you have read anything by this author you will know that her characters tend to “know” each other and cameo in each other's series. I LOVE that. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series.
Easily my Favorite book of 2025 so far!!! I don’t make this statement lightly or often in a year (I only remember one now) because I read over 200 books a year. I loved A.J. and Grace both start and end this book as an amazing couple. The found family they surrounded themselves with are what true family is all about in my heart. Grace and Parker’s unique sisterhood is beautiful and almost incomprehensible. I’m looking forward to Parker’s book next, but this one will be hard to beat!
Affinity Star read!!!!!! 💫 Loved this book!!!! It is one of my favorites for the year. And I also couldn’t put this book down because I love it that much and I wanted to see what happens next in the book.📖 I loved the romance between AJ and Grace!!!!!! Loved how he protected her through out this book. I loved that Connor, Parker, and Jasper AJ's twin brother helped save Grace throughout this book and also protected her too. And I also liked the side characters also in this book. I hated the bad guys and what they did to Grace in this book. This book has twists and turns thoughout it. And I loved the action and suspense too in the book. There was some crying too thoughout this book and I was also happy when they got an happy ending together. And I can't wait to read the next book in this series and also other books by Patricia and I very much recommed this book.
Ok seriously you need to make sure you clear your schedule to read this as firstly it is not a short book and secondly the emotions you are going to go through and the need to know Grace will make it and she and AJ will be together at the end. There were definitely tears a few times as well some laughs often due to Parker and Harrison lots of tense moments and so much more. I would love it if we got an update on Abe in a future book and can not wait for Parkers book!
This was an easy read with likeable characters & a strong plot. Part of a series with mentions of characters who feature in the author’s other books. AJ is absolutely swoon worthy, literally the perfect husband & Grace shows such strength. Read this in one sitting & can’t wait for Parker’s story.
Stone's Throw is an epic read both in its length and in the depth of its emotions. Patricia Eddy knows how to weave a tale that will capture you interest and keep you engaged from beginning to end. This is a love story about two people who have been best friends for more than twenty years and married for eighteen of them. This is about enduring love, never giving up no matter how bleak things look despite time and distance. It's about accepting a new normal, interweaving the past with today and the future. I was completely spellbound, shed a few tears and reveled in the triumphs. You'll love the secondary characters and you'll lose your heart to Belle.
I thought this book was really sad. It was very slow in the beginning. I'm sorry but Grace was kept for 3 years. She would have been forced to have husbands especially in a cult. The timeline would have been better if it was less than 3 years.
I went into this story knowing it was going to be an emotional book after reading AJ's brother's book and getting a glimpse and AJ's pain. I was wholly unprepared for Grace and AJ's love story. It was absolutely worth the tears I cried for them! This is for sure a fast-paced suspenseful book that had me hooked from the start. There was no putting it down and waiting a few days to get back to it. This was a sit down with it and live the emotions until you're done! I don't know what I was expecting from their love story, but I wouldn't have guessed this! I can't recommend it enough and I bet the audiobook is going to hit on a whole different level. I don't usually read a book and listen to it so close together but I think for this book I'd make that exception.
I voluntarily reviewed "STONE'S THROW" I was pulled right into this intense, intriguing, emotional journey, suspense filled drama you can't out down. Grace Stone has lost her memory criminals took her, the doctors in the hospital in Mexico tell she can't remember anything, they contact her husband Captain AJ Stone to let him know she's alive. A.J. was devastated when he lost his wife with no trace, clues or answers as to what happened, Grace just up and vanished so when he got the call he headed right to Mexico. Grace didn't even recognize AJ she couldn't even speak properly or tell him what happened to her. AJ held on to Grace tightly swearing he'd protect her against the criminals who took her. Will AJ be able to keep Grace from harm, will she get her memories back about what happened to her, can they get back what they once had a page turner to the end. Patricia D. Eddy really knows how to hook you in & not let go, I love her books she never disappoints.
