The Bride of Frankenstein Doesn’t Bake Cookies The kids notice there’s something from with Frank. And if your thinking it, yes,, he resembles Frankenstein in size. His also has a friend named Dr. Victor that created him in a secret lab. They suspect he made Frank. At least Howie thinks so. Eddie just thinks he could be a really big athlete. Eddie thinks it might be the cookies. They’re skimpy at the rink’s snack bar.
Fank keeps groaning and hitting his head on the table. Dr. Victor comes in and the kids notice he looks worried. They see the two talking and wonder what they’re talking about. They seem to be having an argument. Dr. Victor says NO. He vowed to never make that mixture again but then Frank starts to cry and Dr. Victor says he’ll do what he asks. Just don’t blame him how it turns out. Then he walks out.
On the way home, Howie tells them he thinks Dr. Victor and Frank are devising a sinister plan. Liza says they wre probably just discussing cookie recipes. They remind her she’s the one that said Dr. Victor cooked up Frank but she says she just thinks Frank needs friends. Eddie teases her and says she sounds like she wants to be his girlfriend. She tells him even monsters need friends. Besides he’s one and they’re his friends. Then a storm comes from out of no where. There’s lightening and its coming from the Shelly Museum.
A week goes by and they are back at the rink. They talk about the storm but Melody says she’s sure it’s all fine. Howie says he has a strange feeling about the lightning over the museum. The rink is packed when they get there (at the snack bar). There’s a tall, strange, woman at the snack bar. Her hair is black and sticking streak up with white streeks. Lizza says the style is called a bee hive. Eddie says figures you can hide a nest of bees in it. The sneak through the crowd to get a glimpse at the cookie. These definitely aren’t skimpy. Dr. Victor comes over and points out the humungous cookies. He takes them to the front of the line and introduces them to “his niece Electra”. They can’t help noticing how stiff she is. She says her goal is to have the most successful cookie counter in the contry.
Howie sees something that gives him shivers. He says he thinks Frank likes the new cookie chief. Then they see him rush over to help her. She thanks him for his suggestion and kisses him on the cheek. He blushes and rushes off. Lizza thinks it’s cute. Eddie thinks Frank is a disgrace to monsterdom. Howie says he thinks Electra is a monster like Frank and was created to be his girlfriend. Lizza says she thinks there’s nothing to worry about. If they can just get the two of them married. But Howie says that could mean trouble if they get married they’ll have little monsters. So, this romance has got to go.
Frank starts to show off on the ice rink to make Electra notice how good a skater he is. But she’s not paying attention. She’s serving the cookies. Frank trips and calls and the ice cracks. Then Electra starts to laugh. Frank gets embarrassed and then mad. He slams his hockey stick and shatters the board. Becaise they think this is the end of Frank being in love, they go out for shakes. But they see Electra sitting there wih another man in a suit. Howie then remembers what happened to the story of Frankenstien whose bride didn’t love him either. He destroyed everything and they can’t let that happen to Bailey City. They have to make Electra like Frank. They see Electra again at the mall with the same man. Lizza says they can convince her that Frank’s the better catch. Lizza tells her that Frank thinks she’s the best cook in the entire world. The man agrees and they walk away and sit down at a table. Then they start talking with their heads chose. All they’ve seemed to do is make the man like her more.
Later, Lizza says she got it wrong. They have to make Frank more irrestiable to her. Lizza has an idea and the go to the rink. Frank is sulking around. Lizza says Electra just needs more time to see what a great guy Frank is. To make that happen tho they’ll have to get rid of her customers. Eddie agrees because if they go he’ll be first in line. He tells the teenagers if they eat junk they won’t be good athletes. Then she tells a mother things with sugar will ruin their teeth. Then he tells a grandmother if she eats the cookies she’ll be fat. Now Electra is sad because all her customers are gone. They tell Frank to go cheer her up and he does. She’s so busy taking to him she lets some of the cookies she’s had in the oven burn. The man in the suit just then comes over looking angry. The man tho looks at Frank and Electra and leaves.
When they go back to the rink, the snack bar is closed. They see Frank and Electra. She’s slumped over and looks like she’s crying. They hear Frank saying he thinks it’s his fault that the cookies got burnt. Frank tells them the snack bar is closed. They tell him they didn’t come for that. She says Mr. Chips didn’t like her cookies. He’s the president in charge of the Great Flower Cookie Company. He was interested in making her an executive. Frank tells them to leave. Since Lizza caused this she says she’ll fix it. So they get Eddie to get his birthday money and go to the snack bar to buy a bunch of the cookies to give Mr. Chips. All the cookies are gone, but lucily Eddie has one in his bag.
They all go to Hauntly Manor. They catch Mr. Chips before he’s leaving and he takes a cookie but then leaves saying he might not get a chance to taste it. When they get to the snack bar all the cookies and Electra are gone. Dr. Victor tells them Mr. Chips loved the good and now Electra is the president of The Monster Cookie Company and has flown to NY. I guess Frank went with her because they say now they’ve ridden the city of two monsters. Victor gives them a box from Electra full of monster cookies. Now the only cookie monster left is Eddie.
Rating: 7 This was a very cute alternate way to look at the story! I enjoyed it. It made me think back to a place in one of our malls called “The Great Cookie Company” and it had these HUGE cookies on display. Or it might have been “The Great American Cookie Company”. I really wish it was still around but like all good things here time has just repleaced it with watered down versions of things. Or no versions at all. I REALLY would love one of those big chocolate chip cookies!

One day after a huge storm at the local ice skating rink snack shop in Bailey city a new baker had appeared. This new baker named Electra had a strange resemblance to the bride of Frankenstein. With her she had brought giant monster sized cookies. These cookies got the whole town of Bailey city to come and try the cookies. But while the whole town was enjoying Electra's cookies, her co-baker Frank (who had a strange resemblance to Frankenstein) wanted Electra's attention but could never get it no matter what he did. One day the Bailey school kids saw Electra out with a new guy. Looking as if they were on the date. The group had the realization that they needed to have their friend Franks back and get Electra to fall for him and not the other guy. So the next day at the snack shop the group had gotten everyone in the snack to leave without getting Electra's cookies. Allowing an opportunity for Electra and a Frank to have a conversation and become friends. But OH NO, Electra accidentally burnt the cookies and the guy she was out with turns out to be a cookie sales man. He see's the burnt cookies and leaves. Will Electra get the chance to make it big in the cookie industry? Will Frank and Electra end up together like Frankenstein and his bride? How can the Bailey school kids fix the problem they created?
This book is perfect for a first or second grade class. I would utilize it in a read aloud throughout a week or two. Having the students practice making predictions of what they think will happen next. I would also utilize it to complete a story map with the students. Having them identify things such as the problem, character and setting of the story.
Liza stopped walking down the sidewalk and put her hands on her hops. "You listen to me," she told Eddie. "It doesn't matter what a person looks like, it's what's on the inside that counts. After all, sometimes you act like a monster, but we're still your friends!"
That is probably the best thing I've read in all of these books, it's right on the nose.
Poor Frank was lonely and these kids just had to get involved again. I always think they're just going to be mean and cruel, which it seemed like they were. But they always feel bad if something goes wrong. At least they try to fix their mistakes, and what they did for Electra was really nice. But I still think they should have been nicer to Frank. Not even one time he acted like a monster. He was always so kind to these kids, and they're still afraid of him and think he wants to destroy the city they live i, when I think he just wanted to be happy.
I really liked how it ended though. I was worried for a while, I really thought the way the kids were treating Frank would make me like this book less, but I think it's worth 4 stars.
This was a good one! I hadn't read the books that feature Frank, so I felt a little like I was missing something. But, the story was interesting, the plot twist was clever, and the ending was satisfying. I look forward to hearing about Frank.
The collection of "The adventures of the Bailey School Kids" stories are among my all-time favorite children's books. Witty, mischievous and fun, these short and silly books continue to bring giggles to the young and old. Just as I have enjoyed them as a kid, my own children also love them today. I even catch myself re-reading them (alone) from time to time. What can I say? I guess I'll always be a BSK kid at heart.
A silly series that creates more questions than it answers. It's great for formulating theories as well as predictions. The class dynamics should be very familiar to those of the Magic School Bus generation.
there was a girl baking very large cookies the kids had to figure out what was wrong it was silly that a girl monster baked cookies so it was very funny
I was looking for a book to go with my Bride costume for an elementary school literacy event. Easy enough early chapter book, but I've decided to go with Star Wars and Origami Yoda instead.
