First released in the HUNTRESS anthology, get caught up in the magic and sensuality of bestselling author Christine Warren's erotic paranormal short story "Devil's Bargain." Now available for the first time ever as a standalone e-book. It takes a real man to satisfy the powers and passions of this supernatural huntress.
Supernatural bounty hunter Lilli Corbin made a pact with the Prince of Hell: She agreed to recover a book of prophecies. When she learns it could trigger the apocalypse, Lilli is forced to make the ultimate choice: save her soul, or the man she loves?
Born and raised in coastal New England, Christine Warren lived in the South and the Mid-Atlantic before hopping to the other side of the country to take up the life of a transplant in the Pacific Northwest. She completely bypassed those states in the middle due to her landlocking phobia. Hmm, need to research a scientific term for that...
When not scrambling frantically to complete her latest writing project, Christine spends most of her time as a crazy animal lady, hanging out with her dog Levi (he’s the one with the hair) and pretending to train him to have some manners. She also hangs out with her horse, Cal—a thoroughbred with a craving for strawberry licorice twists—her goddog, Merlin; and her best friend, fellow author Hannah Murray. In addition to playing with her pets, Christine’s hobbies include identifying dog breeds from photos of their underbellies, appreciating fine and not-so-fine wines, shopping for the perfect pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, and most of all reading things someone else had to agonize over.
She enjoys hearing from readers and can be reached via email sent to Christine@christinewarren.net or by postal mail to Christine Warren, PO Box 871900, Vancouver, WA 98687-1900.
4 - "Add a sprinkle of brimstone and bake at three-fifty until golden brown." Stars!
I read a lot of novella’s and Devils Bargain by Christine Warren pretty much epitomises what I expect to find in one that is written too an extremely high standard. Being my first book by this author, as always I started out with no expectations, and from the first page onwards my metaphorical smile got bigger and bigger.
”Labels aren’t really my thing.”
This book was a winner, with likeable and easy to get along with characters, a good plot, perfectly paced with some sexy-times thrown in. Although PNR, it isn’t bogged down with loads of lengthy explanations as to who can do what and why, which gets another massive thumbs up from me!
This novella is basically set around the book of the Valterum’s Praedicti Arcanum or the Arcan Prophecies to most of us, and how Lili and Aaron after initially being on opposite sides of the fence, then come together to prevent it falling into the wrong hands, those hands being Samael – Prince of Hell, Lord of Deception, and Master of Depravity.
I really enjoyed it Devils Bargain; this definitely won’t be the last book I read by this hugely talented author.
”Just call me Charlton Heston with a death wish.”

Lilli is an awesome character. The best thing about her is her confidence. She knows what needs to be done is difficult, but she doesn't doubt she can do it - even when faced with a ridiculous deadline. She's also damn smart. Aaron isn't too bad either. He reacts how anyone in his situation would, which is refreshing. While they do have rockin chemistry, it's hard to believe the immediate love (we're talking within hours of meeting). At least the characters do address this - to themselves internally and Lilli says to Aaron how crazy it is that they love each other so deeply. So that's different, it isn't just swept under the rug.
I enjoyed the demon, Samael, too. I'd like to see a story from his POV of where he is now and what he'll do next!
I have found another author to add to my list of favorites. Not many authors can get the level of description right... It's either Stephen King like and dragging on so long about the grass growing that I've forgotten what's actually happening with the plot or someone has managed to be less than minimalist. The author found the Goldilocks Zone.
What a fun and spicy little read this was! Yes, it is a very short condensed story so the love is very much instant. However, it’s hot and magical too. Devil’s Bargain is a great way to get to know the author. We get a sense of what to expect in the writing style and flow. It’s a smart, fun and adventurous kind of read in a small package.
The story line is of a supernatural bounty hunter fulfilling a deal she made with a devil. Only she didn’t think falling in love would be a consequence. She is a kick ass gal and has fallen for the geek sheek guy. Oh, but looks a can be deceiving. He’s an alpha bad ass in disguise ya’ll!
Again, the story/book all takes place within less than twenty four hours. So be prepared when the “insta” happens. I think knowing that before you go in makes for a better read.
All in all 3.5 I really like it stars for great chemistry and a really good storyline! T~ www.ktbookreviews.com

The Review:
Lilli made a deal with a devil, Sam, in order to catch a particularly nasty bad guy. She only had to agree to three favors, and so far she has fulfilled two of his requests, so despite her hesitation at meeting him again, this could finally gain her freedom back. When he asks her to find a lost possession and only gives her three days she knows that she might have a hard time with this one.
Aaron is at his uncle’s house when he stumbles across a very rare and valuable book, as he cracks it up to study it he hears a noise. He finds a beautiful bounty hunter looking through his uncle’s shelves, it’s just too bad when she notices him that she throws a knife at him. Lilli and Aaron end up in a fight until they both decide to just figure out what is going on instead of killing each other.
Once they realize that what Sam is looking for is a whole lot nastier than Lilli realized she is faced with the impossible choice of saving her own soul or saving the man she has come to care about.
I was kind of shocked to realize that this was a novella without a series, that being said, it was definitely a good read with an interesting world. It’s one I wouldn’t mind seeing more of, it’s full of magic and demons and hell bloods. Lilli is really interesting as a bounty hunter that makes deals to catch really bad guys. Kind of makes you think.
Aaron is a sexy sorcerer and they make a smoking hot couple. I was kind of miffed that the novella wasn’t longer. I was ready to read more about them!
Notable Scene:
Seven long years, Lilli had made a deal with the devil: in return for his permission to enter his portion of the underworld and bring out a fugitive she’d been hired to apprehend, she agreed to do him three unspecified favors in the future.

I liked this story and the humor. It could have been longer, but was appropriate for a novella. I like the characters are wonder if they will be in later books. Kudos to Christine.
This novella was first released in 2009 in the Huntress anthology and now for the first time is available on its own. I found this book sexy and enticing, filled with magic and passion, with just a smidge of darkness and danger to keep it spiced up. I loved it.
Opening Scene:
Sitting at the right foot of the devil could give a girl a complex about her pedicure.
The Review:
Lilli Corbin has one more job to do for the handsomely evil devil she made a bargain with seven years ago and then she’ll finally be free. Finding out all she needs to do is get a book, seams to good to be true. Finding out that this book can lead to the apocalypse puts a rather large dampener on things, making Lilli make a hard decision, save her soul or advert the apocalypse.
Notable Scene:
She’d been expecting to find an empty house that no one would mind her braking into, much less making off with one small book and none of the family silver ( okay, a big book, but she wasn’t even going to look for the electronics ). She hadn’t expected a tall, lean, rumpled-looking man wearing faded jeans that were worn at the seams, a Ramones t-shirt, a battered flannel button-down, and black-rimmed eyeglasses that made him look like a nerd and a face from a GQ cover at the same time. She also hadn’t expected him to try to sneak up on her from the main floor of the house. That was why she threw the knife at him, she guessed. It was reflex. Most of the time, the things sneaking up on her didn’t have her best interests at heart, so she could be forgiven for trying to stop theirs. The man on the stairs, though, he didn’t look very forgiving. He looked intent, then startled, then angry as he raised his own hand just as her fingers released their grip on the knife. With the flat of his palm, he slapped at the air in front of him, and her knife screeched to a halt, quivering as if it had impacted on wood and buried itself to the hilt. Only it hadn’t hit anything. It hovered in mid-air for a second, then dropped to the floor with a clatter. Clearly, Alistair Carruthers hadn’t been the only sorcerer to live in this house. Instinctively, she reached for a second blade, and the man on the stairs threw himself toward her with a growl completely at odds with his computer geek appearance. The impact didn’t feel very geeky, either. It felt solid and heavy and knocked her ass-over-elbows onto the very hard and dusty floor. Who would have guessed that all that solid muscle lurked under such worn rumpled cloth?

This is a short story that was apparently originally released in the anthology Huntress so if you have already bought that then save your money and perhaps buy the latest gargoyle book by this author or even one of her excellent books in the Others series. If you haven't already read this then please be assured that it works very well as a standalone and is easily understood although I'm the first to admit that a longer story would have the benefit of more world building and background. Lilli is a bounty hunter but she's no ordinary human as her father was a demon and although she is determined to do her best to not harm innocents she is indebted to Samael one of the demon princes. Samael previously granted her safe passage through his domain when Lilli was hunting a particularly nasty goblin in exchange for three tasks performed. Lilli has only one more task to perform and her soul is completely free of any hellish taint and luckily it's seemingly an easy task, retrieve a book stolen from Samael. That's an easy job for Lilli but when you work for demons nothing is ever straightforward! In a world where magic exists lives Aaron, a human or magi who is a bit of a geek in some ways but with the heart of a warrior. He is going through his late uncles things when he discovers a very rare book that appears to be the blueprint for the apocalypse . Aaron cannot quite believe his eyes but he's about to get an even bigger shock as he's not alone in the house and the intruder seems determined to steal the book of prophecies.! This was a very quick read and I actually did quite like the kick ass heroine Lilli but I do feel a little dissapointed in the lack of backstory. Lilli is such a confident and feisty character though and her initial meeting with Aaron is quite literally non stop action! Aaron may not be a soldier or anything similar but he is a resilient guy who refuses to sit back and watch everything he holds dear go to hell ( literally!). Theirs is an instant chemistry kind of relationship which is smoking hot but not really that believable . I know this is fiction but I do enjoy a little build up but with this short story everything has a sense iof immediacy. It's well written and flows easily. I actually wanted to know more about Samael and the other princes of hell so perhaps at some point the author will expand this world. Short but not terrible . Three and a half from me
It is rare for me to really fall in love with a novella the length often means that there is something missing for me in the plot, romance or characters. But Devil’s Bargain managed to get everything right for me and it turned out to be one of the better books I’ve read in a while. I just liked everything about it.
Christine Warren has written a really nice story full of action, romance and humour. I found it really easy to get lost in her world and fall in love with her characters. There isn’t a great deal of detail or description purely because there isn’t the room for it but Warren does the best with the space she has.
I really enjoyed the story. I have read a lot of paranormal romances in my time and this isn’t exactly bursting with new ideas but it was original enough to keep me guessing. I liked the concept, especially as it bordered on fantasy a lot of the time but it was the characters who really made this one for me.
Lili was my kind of girl she was feisty and funny, everything I want in a leading lady. I got the feeling that she could occasionally fall off the moral compass but for the most part she was one of the good guys. Aaron was even better he was not your typical heartthrob being more nerdy and cute than hot but that is more my kind of guy anyway. I really liked him he was so different from the norm which really worked for me.
The romance was a little rushed they fell in lust and then quickly in love, really quickly. Normally this annoys me in books but it was handled well in Devil’s Bargain. The insta-love came as a massive surprise to the characters as well, theu knew it was irrational, they knew it was far too soon but they couldn’t stop it. I liked that instead of just ignoring the insta-love and pretending it wasn’t happening it was bought up and talked about. It made a nice change. This is the first Christine Warren book I have read but it certainly will not be the last. Devil’s Bargain is sweet, romantic and fun my only big problem with it is that it wasn’t longer.

Whereas the summary left a lot of possibilities at what could happen, the cover sold us some dreams, we find ourself with a rather passable novel without much imagination and which sometimes can lose his readers. Although the reading is done quickly, that it is rather pleasant, more than once I had the feeling than the whole was wasted, the potential completely wasn't used at his right value!
Lilith is the type of heroin that we call "badass" as they are appreciated and yet I found a side of her unfinished. There are well too many remote regions in her life, her past, her personality for completely appreciated her. The same applies to Aaron, who behind his geek's looks, is rather desperado, courageous and intuitive. Then there is Samaël, the Prince of darkness, the "evil" one of the story, which is the stereotype of the demon and evil. These three interacts well together, it give rhythm but there are a lack at each one of them.
The story either is rather simple, in fact the universe is complex and which loses us per moment. We does not know why certain things happened, there is an unquestionable lack of information in order to understand all well. The romance or rather the sexual attraction between Lili and Aaron is immediate. They pass quickly to the action (the kitchen still remembers it) and it is what gives rhythm in parallel with the small scenes of combat.
In spite of a problem of result, as well in the characters and the intrigue (we see the things arriving), there are somme interest to read it. But let's be honest, if you expect something more built, who holds the road and who will give you desire to learn more, it is better that you make a pass in it. For the others, you will have a ludic reading which will make you spend time.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very quick paranormal romance with a devilish twist (ha-ha). There are no prerequisites and it is firmly in the standalone category. Having read and enjoyed this author before, I was glad to get the chance to check this story out.
Lilli is a half-demon who made the unfortunate decision to trade 3 favors to a prince of hell. The last favor, though, seems like a walk in the park for her. She's just got to retrieve a simple book and return it to him in order to regain her freedom. Easy, especially for a tough as nails bounty hunter chick like herself. Aaron is a big of a bookworm who discovers an ancient book of prophecies while going through his deceased Uncle's belongings. After confirming his find, Lilli makes an attempt to steal it out from under him (in his basement, to be precise). Sparks (and magic) flies when they meet each other in a most uncommon way.
The romance element in this story happens pretty much instantaneously for these two, which leaves this read more in the paranormal action category than anything else. While it was a quick read, there was still some solid story developed in a short amount of time. If you've never read this author before, this could be a quick way to gauge whether you'd be interested in her other books.
My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!! ***Received the ebook from St. Martin’s Press for an honest review
The cover is awesome and I love it!! Very steamy with a moon, and I think I see a gargoyle too!! Definitely gets my attention :)
This is a novella somewhere around 90 pages long. I enjoyed reading this story especially the last half of story. Very steamy and exciting :) I don’t want to give anything away though.
I really like Lilli. She is intelligent and refuses to be fooled into doing anything by a Prince of Hell that she wouldn’t normally do. She is strong and feisty and has morals.
Christine does a fantastic job in writing as always. She is always descriptive, so you can imagine everything happening with your own eyes.
I recommend this to my paranormal junkies especially if you are a fan of Christine Warren already. You never want to miss a story by one of your favorite authors :)
Warren does a great job at delivering a exciting story in Devil's Bargain. Lilli is a great leading character because she is strong, smart, able to take care of herself, and is unwilling to back down when the situation calls for it. Despite being a short story, Warren does a great job at developing her leading character and making the reader root for her to outsmart the devil somehow. The story builds up the suspense as Lilli's seemingly simple mission turns into so much more. Throw in some romance and sexual tension, and Warren delivers a great story that keeps the reader's attention from beginning to end. Overall Devil's Bargain was an enjoyable read that I would recommend to fans of paranormal romance.

Devil's Bargain takes place in about one day. Only a gifted writer could pull this type of novella off well. Christine Warren has done that. Even though the chemistry is instant between Lilli and Aaron , their characters are still well developed along with the story line. The plot is intriguing from the beginning; just recover a book for the devil, seemed easy enough, but was it?
I first read this story several years ago in an anthology paperback, titled Huntress. Devil’s Bargain was one of my favorite of the four in it. For me Christine Warren was the best known of the authors, even though this is a bounty hunter story and not an Others story. Still these novellas are a great way to try an author’s work. For that reason alone I would recommend this story. It is also an entertaining strong female lead book.
“From here on out, things might start to get tricky.” “Devils and demons and apocalypse, oh my?” he grinned back. Bring ‘em on.”
Devil’s Bargain was an action-packed novella with a wonderfully sarcastic heroine who swoops in to save the world from a devil prince out to bring on the apocalypse. (Wow, that was a mouthful!)
I’m sure I am not alone in enjoying stories with strong, smart female characters. Lilli definitely fits that description perfectly. She may have been half devil, but she believed in doing the right thing and keeping people safe from criminals and miscreants. You’ve gotta give her props for that.
Great novella. I really felt fully locked in on who and what the characters were and wanted, despite the short length of the book. It was nice how interprets a particular prophecy and manages to free herself once and for all from the Prince of Hell, along with getting one heck of a hunk of man! Glad I read it, like I am when it comes to pretty much all of Christine Warren's books lately.

Devil's Bargain is a quick spicy read. It's fun, little mystery and prophecy added in, and good to read.
Lilith made a deal with Samuel and now is paying those favors forward. Save the world, the man she loves, her soul, or bring the book in. There are so many choices and quite a few of those choices can lead to the worlds end.
Hmmmm, just not enough. I found myself skipping pages, the characters were completely blah with not connection on the pages. The sexual attraction was not even remotely believable, and then it becomes love...wtf?
