Golems: living dolls crafted by adept molders of earth and magic. Farmers use them to perform menial labor, law enforcement use them to bolster security, and aristocrats use them as their closest companions. Just like any tool, however, golems can be used for good or evil.
Enter Clay, an aspiring young molder who travels to the city to take part in a golem-building contest-the winner of which will become the guardian of the city's treasury! When dark forces learn of Clay's unique skills, he becomes a target worth more than the city's coffers.
Luckily, Clay has three golem friends who will do anything in their power to protect him. Join fledgling golem-maker Clay and his eccentric companions as he embarks on a journey of grand adventure!
In a world where living dolls named golems exist, among them is the world of their makers, expert golem crafters dubbed “molders”. Clay is a fledgeling molder, striving to hone his craft and to make a career of it along the way. Surrounding him is his extremely loving family, but something about this family of four is a little more odd than the rest…
Clay Lord Master of Golems is unique in a way where I can’t think of much any other media to really compare it to besides perhaps Magical x Miracle for the simple sake of being a manga that goes against the grain and makes an immense impression for its quality and charm. But this is a manga to not be compared to another. It’s very unique in story and elements and it has a complete lack of romance but feels entirely fulfilled without it. It brings to mind the idea that perhaps what makes a story feel fulfilled is love, not simply romance, as Clay Lord revolves around familial love and an achingly intriguing story and world. Clay Lord is an expertly crafted story with a warm feel to it.
I ended up enjoying this far more than I thought I would. Mostly because crazy characters. Yay crazy characters.
It's about a kid named Clay who makes golems. But he's special when it comes to making golems. Because he's just awesome that way. He's got three servants, two of which are a bit crazy. Clay also has something in his past briefly alluded to, but not much detail on it (yet).
This was a really good manga. I wasn’t sure what to expect since this series isn’t very well-known. However, I fell in love with this goofy characters. While it does follow fairly typical shonen tropes, it was also refreshingly unique. It’s comparable to Fullmetal Alchemist, yet the principles are very different. I really enjoyed this first volume and I’m intrigued to see where this story goes. I recommend it to anyone wanting to read a manga that’s a little more under ground.
I just finished the outstanding manga! I'm a huge sucker for anything fantasy and manga... so this was perfect. The best comparison I can make is 'Fullmetal Alchemist' meets 'FairyTale', with quirky characters and beautiful art; I'd definitely pick up the first volume.
Quick thoughts: decent premise and action elevated by fun, compelling characters. Some standard Shounen elements and tropes, but it seems capable of rising above them.
found it to be a great start to what will hopefully be a wonderful series. it has a fine selection of humorous, cute and courageous characters with a very compelling sequence of events. the choice of character personality was chosen well and their actions suit their behaviour. to me I'd say this looks promising. It's got good design, nice story, doesn't give to much away and leaves you with questions at the end "what happened to clay and his brothers?" "why can't rose speak?" "just what makes earthgaia blood special? and are there other families that share this trait?" I look forward with great anticipation to finding the answers and more questions to solve. on a side note with its golems (specially the cute chocolate ball) their is also great marketing potential here, so keep an eye out for kurogane golem form figures and chocolate ball plushies.
This is a pretty good series so far. Starts off strong and keeps you interested. I picked it up for the magic aspect, but am pleasantly surprised to find it has a lot to do with alchemy as well, or it has that sort of a feel to it. A bit like Fullmetal Alchemist, but lighter.
Fabulous! The book starts off in the middle of the action, then explains the rules of the world as it goes seamlessly. Loved the characters, and loved that plot twists were unexpected - and now I would love to have a chocolate ball golem of my own (too cute!).
This Manga is really fun so far, I'm looking forward to reading more and seeing how the story develops. If you get the chance I would definitely say "pick up this manga and give it a read" you wont be disappointed.
I was surprised how much I liked this manga. It totes the line between cute and serious, swaying a bit more to the serious side. I think this one will be fun to watch the story unfold.
