Clare Clover is super smart, but she’s not a people person. At 27, she’s never even had a boyfriend. That’s why she works with fossils. She doesn’t have to worry about saying the wrong thing to a bunch of bones. When she gets chosen to lead an exciting excavation, Clare thinks she’ll finally be able to make a name for herself. What else is there to do besides dig in Middle-of-Nowhere, Montana? Then she meets Ben Merano, a handsome geologist who gives her an education her three college degrees couldn’t come close to. Ben Merano loves his isolated, drama-free existence with no responsibilities. Traveling, hanging out with the guys, being outdoors—what’s not to like? Then Clare, a paleontologist with killer legs and zero social skills, shows up at his camp. Ben feels an instant connection to the reserved girl from the big city. That he had a vision of her a few weeks before they met is only part of her appeal. Ben starts to believe he wouldn’t have seen Clare coming if she wasn’t meant to be his. The problem is he’ll have to convince this student of science there’s such a thing as destiny. Clare’s brain tells her a relationship with Ben would never work, even if he can sing like Paul McCartney and kiss like Casanova. After all, Ben’s a wanderer and she’s got the job of her dreams back in New York. Will Clare’s logic, and lack of experience with love, get in the way of what they both want—or will she allow herself to find Love in Stone?
Eve Kasey writes for a design firm by day and reads (and writes!) indie romance novels by night. Her contemporary romances balance swoon and steam while aiming to teach readers something new. She loves romance for the hope the genre conveys as well as the amplification of the simple truth that everyone everywhere deserves a happily ever after - however that looks to them. Eve lives in and loves the Pacific Northwest.
Oh my, this book was oh-so sweet. Clare Clover doesn’t really date. She’s focussed on her career. As she goes off on a dig, she isn’t expecting to meet someone like Ben Merano. Ben is a geologist, and he has got to be one of the sweetest guys I have ever read. So, so cute. I loved how this was a slow burn romance. I got to 95% and was wondering whether the HEA was going to happen. Like, seriously, on the edge of my seat, praying that this couple were going to make it! I really enjoyed all of the palaeontology knowledge too, and was surprised by how much I was rooting for Clare to make the discovery that she so badly wanted. This was my first read from this author, and it gets the full 5 stars.
I loved Ben & Clare. Ben was just the sweetest guy. He was perfect. I was willing these two to get it together & at the end I was panicking thinking it’d never happen. I was in safe hands though, Eve wrote a beautiful & mesmerising romance. All the stars for this one!
A story that demonstrates love is not logical, this slow burn romance was both smart and sexy
Clare Clover is smart. Like, really really smart. But as a fellow smarty pants I can attest that you can still be Mensa material and completely lack romance “smarts.” So I may be a bit biased, as I instantly empathized with her tendency to employ logic and set aside emotion.
But then, on the brilliantly laid backdrop of scientific discovery, in walks the mellow, confident, and sexy Ben Merano. And sparks fly. Slowly. Deliberately. Tantalizingly. It was squirm-and-giggle-inducing good.
There were also several other unique aspects of this story that shone. First, though Clare was a romantic relationship novice, she wasn’t the only one who made mistakes. Ben, while thoroughly charming, sweet, and attentive, was also a well developed character in that he had flaws. And accordingly they both made assumptions that jeopardized their happy ending.
I also really enjoyed the slightly paranormal, rationally unexplainable aspect of Ben, and his sister Nora’s, abilities to know things that aren’t provable fact. It was a fantastic spin, demonstrating that some things simply defy explanation, and was a wonderful tool in opening Clare’s mind to concepts that are beyond her ability to understand through logic.
Finally, I love love loved that emotion and logic weren’t pitted against each other in Clare’s ultimate growth into a woman who knows what she wants out of love and life, and that the intellectual and tender parts of her can work together to make her a stronger, happier version of herself, even without a HEA. Even though there is, thankfully, one of those too.
A friends to lovers story. I enjoyed the slow development of their relationship. Clare is a doctoral candidate in paleontology. She is much more comfortable around academics. She has two good friends and that is the end of her social circle as she feels socially awkward.
Ben the handsome geologist who has not fully healed from his previous relationship loves the field work and the aloneness it offers.
When Ben and Clare come together out in no mans land Montana, they form a mutual respect being the leaders for both their teams. A friendship evolves from the respect and slowly turns into more. As we watched the feelings begin to grow, each of them were keeping them hidden. For different reasons, but this is what caused the separation.
I am a sucker for HEA and was worried about the ending when neither of them fought for each other. They both ran away fearful of the pain of heartbreak, even though they both ended up that way. Fortunately, love and logic came together.
It was a realistic view of how relationships are usually messy and painful. I enjoyed watching Clare grow more confident in herself. Sometimes it just takes that special someone to pick a mirror up to you so that you see it has been there the whole time.
Stone was a pretty good slow burn romance written by a new-to-me Indie author.
Here sparks fly when ruggedly handsome, visionary Ben meets the woman of his dreams, super smart and ambitious rich girl, Clare, in the Montana mountains.
I liked the connection that grew between these two opposites and getting their background stories. And, even more, I loved the setting of their locale. The descriptions were so vivid and leaped off the pages. There’s something about the remote wilderness that always mesmerizes me. I would love to go off the grid in Montana for a few days!
I would’ve loved to have known more about where the paranormal aspect stemmed from.
There wasn’t much drama or heaviness, which I appreciated; just a slow budding big city girl/small town boy love story. Cute and sweet!! I’d love to get the “where are they now” update on these 2!
Ahh, Clare and Ben. She’s a crazy smart, socially naive New Yorker who dines on sushi and fine wine. He’s from the opposite coast, usually dust covered and clad in jeans and more likely to find his fish in a stream than on a gilded platter. But together they make such sweet music.
Loved these two and their witty banter and slow blooming chemistry. Loved how they each grew personally, opening their eyes and hearts to a new perspective. Loved learning something about archeology and geology and a part of the country I’m not familiar with. Loved the touch of magic. Loved this book!
Smart and sweet with a little bit of heat. This book is a bit steamier than my usual reads, but I thoroughly enjoyed the clever writing and the charming story of highly intelligent yet awkward Clare discovering love for the first time with rugged man’s man, Ben. I tore through this book, it was so easy to read. A romance that was fun, engaging and even possessed a supernatural twist!
This was a fun and fast read that was perfect for summer. It's a classic love story about two souls who were made for each other but are kept apart by their own baggage and assumptions (so very Pride and Prejudice). What is really fun about this novel is that it is set in the world of scientists (paleontology and geology) and takes you from New York City to Montana to the PNW. It's so fun traveling across the country along with the characters and as a nature lover, I really appreciated how the badlands set the romantic mood. The main characters were also fun to read, especially the heroine, a socially awkward, hardworking beauty with no clue about men. Her love interest is exactly what she needs to become the best version of herself - and I am such a sucker for characters who bring out the best in each other!!!
I spent my Sunday afternoon reading the last half of Love in Stone. What a perfect weekend read. Clare, a brilliant paleontologist, is new to relationships and unfortunately can’t learn all she needs to know with a Google search. Ben, a down-to-earth geologist, saw Clare coming but never knew just how much she’d change his life. Their romance is lovely, and the story crafted by Kasey is smart and perfectly placed. She’s an incredibly talented writer. I was impressed with the imagery in Love in Stone and I found myself highlighting like crazy because there were just so many beautifully written parts. I definitely recommend this read that will take you from the steel canyons of New York City to Big Sky Montana.
What a beautifully written story about Clare, a self-professed, love-oblivious, scientist and Ben, an outdoor enthusiast. Eve Kasey did a wonderful job of describing the scenery and the place where Clare and Ben fall in love. This slow burn romance is a great read for anyone who has a soft spot for stories about the struggles of moving outside of comfort zones and learning to communicate.
This slow-burn romance was sweet, a treat to read.
Clare's prickly personality and super serious mind mixed so well with Ben. He was a quiet, steady, and patient man. Perfect for Clare. I adore romance where the guy is confident and also kind (these are more my thing than the "bad-boys").
The story of these two loners finding each other, and reading their love unfold was beautiful, delightful to read. If you adore slow-burn romances, Love in Stone is for you!
A really enjoyable read by this debut author. Clare and Ben were such an adorable couple. It was fun to watch them grow together and learn about each other, life and love. The whole paleontology theme was really cool and, as a Rocky Mountain girl, I loved all the Montana scenes. I thought the psychic element the author threw in added a nice sort of fated love feel as well, which the hopeless romantic in me had to appreciate. Can’t wait to read more books by this fabulous new writer.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It was quite different from the usual romance tropes that I read. Our leading lady was a paleontologist and her love interest was a geologist with a special psychic ability. I guess this one was kind of paranormal romance? I’m not really sure how to classify it, but all I know is that I loved it.
Clare is a dedicated, hardworking, science driven woman who is given the opportunity of a lifetime by her mentor. She is assigned to lead an excavation out in Montana. She is from New York City, so she isn’t used to the quiet life that the open air brings. When she gets there, with her team, they meet a group of geologists who have been working in the area. The lead geologist is named Ben. Ben is smart, funny, and very kind. Clare and Ben grow close throughout their first couple of weeks working on the site and things escalate pretty quickly. Clare is not very great, socially. She’s never had a boyfriend and only been kissed twice in her life. She has zero experience with men, and sometimes the things she says can be off-putting. Ben takes everything in stride, though. He is patient and kind towards her and lets her take the lead on most things. After a discovery that leaves Clare jumping for joy, Ben decides to call his sister for help.
Ben and his sister both has special abilities. Although we already know about Ben’s psychic visions and intuition, Nora, his sister, has the ability to touch things and see them in her minds eye (I think). Nora’s ability is kept under wraps, so we don’t really understand it’s full potential. Nora touches the bones of the mammal that Clare is trying to research and is able to have someone draw a full picture of what the animal looked like when it was alive. It’s really cool and very exciting. The book just keeps getting better and better from there. Clare and Ben’s physical romance skyrockets and everything falls into place. Even though they experience some bumps in the road, they are able to navigate them. They are such a cute couple. I love them!
I’m really excited to start on Nora’s book next, I can only imagine how her gift is going to impact her life. This was a really cool concept that our author, Eve Kasey, took and ran with. Great work!! 4 stars!
“That’s the thing with cameras,” he said. “If you send too much time behind the lens you miss what’s right in front of you.”
I adored this so much. I connected with Nora so much, that she was a workaholic and didn’t ever have the experience with men. Ben was just this rugged man who loved his quiet time and nature.
Ah this was such a good read. I have never read a paleontologist and geologist romance before and it worked so good! I loved that Nora was experiencing love and having a relationship for the first time it felt new and fresh and ahh. Just the feels I needed.
I really liked the mystical/divine gift aspect that Eve added in here. It was a cool thing to add to a contemporary. Totally recommend and I cannot wait for Nora’s story!
I've been on a bit of an all paranormal and fantasy books all the time kick, but I'd been saving this for when I was in the mood for a contemporary again. I loved it. From the gorgeous outdoorsy setting in Montana to the beautiful life-complicating relationship developing between Clare and Ben, it was a wonderful read. I definitely recommend to anyone who loves heartfelt contemporaries and Rebecca Brooks' books.
I wanted to read this book but the "paranormal" aspects made me hesitate because that's not usually something I like, but I loved this book. Paranormal bits and all. I love paleontology and history and it was such a fun aspect of this book. I'm really looking forward to the next book this author writes!
It can be so cozy to settle in with a good contemporary romance, and this one was so well written and fun! The budding romance between Clare and Ben is sweet and steamy, with several pretty funny moments too, and best of all, it's smart. The characters are both scientists, and my (long ago) anthropology major side geeked out in pleasure at the discussions of paleontology, geology, and natural history museums. Eve Kasey handled that aspect really well too: it felt authentic and properly researched, but was included with a light enough touch that one doesn't have to be interested in the subject to get into the book, which is much more about the characters and their growing attachment.
Each of them is insecure and/or clueless in their own particular ways, which throws obstacles in their path—not to mention they come from opposite sides of the country, meeting by chance in the Montana badlands for a summer of fieldwork. But it's so clear that their seemingly opposite qualities are in fact complementary, and that they're a perfect fit, if they can just find a way to admit it.
Another thing I thought was done really well was Clare's status as a grown-up virgin. There wasn't any shame or trauma or guilt around her virginity, as often is the case in other romances; she mainly just got there out of social awkwardness and lack of interest (until meeting Ben!). She has no issues with it, though, beyond being insecure about her lack of experience, and she even (amusingly and relatably) recalls a fascination with a Penthouse magazine as a teenager. It all felt refreshingly sex-positive, and to do that with a virgin character takes skill!
I'm excited to see there's a spinoff book from this one—I want to read that next! Will be looking for more from Eve.
Ben and Clare gave me all the happy feels I needed this gloomy and rainy weekend!
First, I loved the descriptions of the setting, they were so vivid and detailed, it made me want to be there to explore with the characters and learn more about the fossils.
I loved Clare’s personality. She was sweet and so shy, her awkwardness was so adorable and so relatable. I loved how passionate she was about her job and her determination to always do it perfectly. Seeing her going out of her shell with Ben and how discover so many new things about life with him was inspiring and also the most romantic to me.
Ben was so swoony! He just understood her! Even after a some awkward moments and seeing her being the badass she was, he felt so drawn to her. He had such an adventurous heart and wanted to share that with Clare. He was eager to show her everything about him because he fell in love so so deeply😍I also loved how close he was to his sister and grandma and how sweet he was to them.
I loved how different from each other they were but so compatible at the same time, because they saw in each other many traits they didn’t find in anyone else, that made the intimacy and emotional bond so much deeper than they thought, making their road to the happy ending even more satisfying to read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 This one is what the girlies would call a slow burn, but I did like it. Clare Clover, or CC, is the smart quiet one. She is an aspiring paleontologist, working on her dissertation. Her mother was the overbearing type that was dead set on her finding a husband. She went out of her way to set Clare up on blind dates that Clare had no desire to be on. Her last date was doable in Clare’s eyes. Carson Roosevelt–a rich guy her mom hoped for. Clare seemed slightly interested in him; however, she needed to put it on pause because she was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. Her professor offered her a lead excavation position over in Montana. Well, well, well… Clare didn’t expect to meet someone else over there. In walks Mr. Ben. The rugged type. Much different from rich boy Carson. The thing is, Ben, saw Clare coming…he had a premonition of her, so he was floored when he saw her at the dig site. Thing is, Clare is as tightly wound as the rocks they were settled on in Montana. What will it take to get her to loosen up?
This romance, as I said, was a slow burn. It kept me reading because I wanted to know ▪︎Does Clare ever loosen up? ▪︎Which of the guys will she settle on–rich boy Carson, or rugged guy Ben, if either of them ▪︎Will she ever gain a voice and tell her mother to quit meddling in her life? ▪︎And, what’s up with Ben and his sister's abilities?
I will say we did get a bit of steam in this one, and it was sweet and hot! Kind of like the red hot candies, LOL. The ending of the book had me wanting just a bit more of the outcome at the end. I am hoping we get a sprinkle or two in book 2, 𝑇𝑜𝑢𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒.
Adorable story with an introverted, intelligent, heroine who comes out of her shell beautifully. Clare finds her footing and confidence, as well as a good looking geologist, on a project site in Montana. The scenery and science will give you that push to go on the hike you’ve been wanting to take and explore nature for yourself.
While Clare’s family comes from money, this is not a billionaire/millionaire troupe (thankfully!). Spice is mild with descriptions that you can easily fill in the blanks. The author gives a nice balance of interesting scientific topics that you don’t have to Google to follow. (Much appreciated 😉)
Good plot. Nice character development. I found myself relating to the adjustment Clare had to make when faced with life outside of New York. I had a similar experience when I left NY to live in AZ. Ms. Kasey is very attentive to detail. Ben is really likable and it was very easy to visualize the experience of being at an archeological dig in Montana. Very tepid steam, which was fine based on Clare's back story. The tension at the end is a relatively common misunderstanding in contemporary romance land so that was a little disappointing but overall, an enjoyable read.
This book was sooo good! I loved that the plot stayed pretty interesting throughout the book. It never became "drab" or "monotonous" or anything like that. I also really liked the level of character development, especially with Clare. This was such a good book, and I would definitely recommend it if you like romance novels with the perfect mix of sweetness and steam. ;)
This book was a change of pace for me, I am generally a fantasy romance reader but this book kept me engaged from the first chapter. The writing style was great and I loved the characters, the plot was amazing and I truly loved this book. I would definitely recommend to any romance lovers.
Love in Stone is the sweetest, most swooniest love story—one that I'm not ready to let go of just yet. I adored the characters and how their lives unexpectedly wove together. Their chemistry was palpable right from the start and their slow burn was perfectly delicious. This book is highly recommended!!
Why haven’t I heard more about Eve Kasey? I sure don’t know because I really enjoyed this book! I loved how Claire was smart, strong and knew what she wanted. Ben makes me swoon with all his rugged ways and love for the outdoors. Excuse me while I read the rest of her books okay?
I loved this book by Eve Kasey. It was a fun, entertaining read from beginning to end, as I got to know both Clare and Ben and watch their relationship develop. When things almost came apart near the end, I was emotionally invested in seeing them have their happy-ever-after.
Clare Clover, a super-smart but naïve young paleontologist working on her doctorate is asked to lead her first expedition in Montana to investigate a fossil uncovered by a geological team. That team is led by Ben Merano, a loner who loves his isolated life, directing his team, camping, and fishing. Clare is from a privileged family and is used to the finer things in New York City.
Now Clare and Ben are camping at the same dig site with their teams, and they find themselves drawn to one another. Clare has very little experience with relationships, and Ben has just come away from a heartbreaking one. They come from different worlds. At the end of this project, Clare will have to return to her life in New York. But despite all of that, their romantic connection leads to passion and love.
Can two people from different lives and with different aspirations overcome their fears and find a way to make their relationship work?
This is the first in Eve’s “Her Hands” series, and we are introduced to Ben’s wonderful sister, Nora, in this book, who I assume will find the love of her life in “Touched by Love.” I can’t wait to read it!
She was way more concerned with getting those three letters after her name than worrying about the three letters that may eventually come before it.
Love in Stone is the first book by Eve Kasey that I've read and I'm so glad that I did! This was a really good slow burn romance. I liked Clare a lot. She was driven and had just the right amount of book smarts and independence to make her a great FMC. In some ways she was also innocent and naive, which would normally bother me, but here I didn't mind it at all. Ben was a good character too. He brought a great balance to Clare. I like relationships where the people compliment each other, not complete each other, and here they do that perfectly! Love in Stone was an enjoyable read with minimal angst. I see many more Kasey stories in my future.
