Dext of the Dead #3

We Are The Entombed

Rate this book
After traveling into the Midwest the crew deal with an increasing amount of pressure as the true scale of the plague becomes clear. The dead have permeated every square inch of the country leaving the few remaining survivors desperate for commodities that were once commonplace. Roving bands of raiders and small, independent communities pose serious threats to one another amongst the every increasing numbers of ravenous, shambling corpses. The group, having suffered difficult losses and few victories, cope with the catatonic state of their friend Kylee; it’s a recipe for disaster.
On the military side, Colonel Lang and Chalmers continue to pursue their goals and Dr. Morofsky is making progress of a different sort––the Colonel may be a worse threat than the dead.
As Dext and his band of survivors push further, they meet many new people and not all of them are trustworthy. Whether they make it to the coast, and ultimately their salvations, or continue to perish, is yet to be seen.

I was given the book "We Are The Entombed" by Steve Kuhn in exchange for an honest review.
Have I ever said how much I love zombie books. You would think I would be sick of this series by now having read three books in two weeks, but I just can't get enough.

In this book they find a few more group members when scavenging in a ritzy neighbourhood. A little girl Lilly who's five and her twenty year old nanny Dana. JC takes a real shining to Lilly and shows he's not just a badass. They come across a community of decent people and stay for a while, but after the residents learn Kylee's secret she is forced to leave. Dext and the others decide to go after her and thats where everything goes wrong. Who will they lose this time?

If you love zombie gore this series is for you it's not for the faint hearted. I love the characters they always make me laugh, even the new one's. Steve is the king of zombies, I went to bed and even dreamt zombies. I will never get sick of the "Dext of the Dead" series just too good. I give it 5 stars, go buy the series at amazon worth every cent.

The third installment starts off with them getting a Freightliner started which they reinforce to make it more secure against zombies and other people.

As they make their way scavenging for supplies, they end up saving two more people, one being a 5 year old girl named Lilly. The group goes out of their way to try and find her parents, but have no success. So Lilly, along with her babysitter Dana are now along for the ride.

Throughout this book, everyone sees over Lilly and becomes her parent in some way or another. And, of course, everyone has their own opinion on how Lilly should be raised. Cutty and JC especially come to grow very found of the little girl and will die trying to protect her.

They come across another group of people that have a pretty good set up and they are welcomed into the community. It seems almost too good to be true. Of course it is, and it isn't long before they end up leaving that community and head back out on the road.

The group experiences an upheaval of emotions and to show their true loyalty as they band together when one or all of their group is threatened. We also get to meet Hook and Alyse who quickly become part of the family.

The character development continues in a positive successful way. Dana is annoying, but life wouldn't be realistic if you didn't have one of those every now and then. JC is coming around a little bit more and I am quite impressed with his changing ways. Dext, continues to tell all, showing his thoughts and how he is ever changing as the loss, trauma and struggles continue.

The story is written just at the right pace, enough to keep me engaged and wanting to keep reading. As soon as I was done with the third book, I started right into the 4th.

Can't wait to see what happens next!

This series is extremely difficult to put down and that only happens when life gets in the way. Stephen is not done with his readers yet and he masterfully draws you in further and further with every book. I love his reading style which allows you to breeze through the books.

He continues to develop the characters, and they clearly change the longer their adventure continues. It makes sense though since what they are living is traumatic and would change anyone. Sadly, as expected in a zombie book, there are casualties, some that you don't want to see, and again I don't give away any spoilers.

The plot is extremely well developed with lots of little and some larger surprises. Stephen definitely knows how to weave a tight web around you, and I enjoy every second of it.

I have received this book from the author for an honest review.

Good book and great series. Don't miss any of the series. You are in for lots of suspense and experience the best and worst of humanity. Some of your favorites will die...each one will become special as you follow their journeys.
