"Lone Wolf and Cub" meets "The Walking Dead" meets John Carpenter's "The Thing", "Spread" is a post-apocalyptic horror series by Justin Jordan that---despite an extraordinary amount of gore and cannibalism and people doing pretty horrible things to other people---has a surprising amount of pathos and heart. I literally devoured this compendium (which collects the entire run of 25 issues) in one sitting. Good, gory stuff.

Pretty good story. Very similar to The Last of Us.
I am not a fan of the narration that happens on top of the actual text, similar to Saga. It can be difficult to follow two text threads at once.
It was a short series so it didn’t go into much detail about how the Spread started or how it functioned. Also made the ending of No’s sacrifice seem less profound, especially since that was not what saved them, not sure really why it receded….
Also do not like when the big badie, Rovello, gets killed with a knife in the back ala game of thrones…
Would give it 2 stars but the artwork bumped it to 3

Fascinating read. Interesting dynamics between all the important characters, especially the "antagonist" and protagonist. Loved the ending. While it feels complete, I would've loved a dozen or so more issues to fully comprehend the spread. But I suppose its beauty lies in our lack of understanding. Neither the characters nor the readers ever really got to know the truth.
