Three months have passed since the United States ripped itself apart.

Shadowy forces continue sabotaging peace negotiations at every turn, while the American Taliban and other insurgents keep fanning the flames of hate and vengeance. With every drop of blood shed, Operation Enduring Unity takes on a life of its own.

In the misguided belief that force alone can end the war, Washington readies the largest military invasion since World War II. Out West, the California-based United Republics of America prepare some surprises of their own.

As the American Cold War turns hot, patriots on each side fight to keep the whole country from burning down. From the high-tech air, land and sea killing grounds to the rhetoric-stained halls of power, prepare for an extreme tour of American history in the making. From sea to shining sea.

More of the same, the chaos of war and the brief snapshot of the effect on individuals. You get a little more sense of the characters, but this is more like a game of Risk than anything else I can point to. Reminiscent of Tom Clancy's early cold war books.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

As I was reading this book I realized that I was missing something. That something was the first book in the series. I didn't realize I was reading the second installment. I still was enthusiastic about the story line. I think the author did a good job of creating equal opportunity strong characters. The acti0on was non-stop and divided into three theaters of conflict. The plot was diverse with different leading characters and political aspirations. My only question is whether I need to read the first book to fully understand the story line.

Similar to the previous novel, this book is a great read for military buff's who like the unique premise of the story, namely that the United States begins a second civil war but with modern weaponry. Even with my five years in the military, I occasionally had to use wikipedia to look up basic facts about some of the weapons systems the book references to have a better grasp of what he was trying to depict. I still believe that some of his battles would greatly benefit from a simple map showing where command headquarters and brigades are set up so it is a little more clear to the reader, nevertheless the book was entertaining to read and I look forward to the final novel in the series.

As with the first in the series, a surprisingly mature and professionally written book. Real depth, and frighteningly plausible premise and action.

Mr. Peters gets the weapons right, and that is important to me. He gets the action right, both the political and military. There are also wonderful little surprises in choices of names all through this series. If you are a military history buff, you will love it even more.

I'm already reading the third book, couldn't wait. If you like military/political thrillers, this serie should be on your To Be Read list.

This book tells of a modern day civil war raging in the US. Half of the country is in support of the President, and the other half wants him out of office by any means necessary. Soldiers on the ground are in danger of being killed by their fellow Americans, and the President seems to be focused on his own agenda, regardless of the number of lives lost. In California, the people are demanding to be freed from the rest of the country, and in Florida, soldiers are doing their best to protect themselves and stay alive.

I received a copy of this book to review. I did not know it was the second in a series. It was not a problem not having read the first one. Now, I would like to read it!
Ugh, the ending-no spoiler. Book three, gotta read!!!
