Welcome to the bowels of Wellard Asylum, where desire is dangerous and deadly, and madness has a face. 𝓣𝔀𝓸, 𝓲𝓷 𝓯𝓪𝓬𝓽.
Twins Wren and Bash Norwood are serial killers, monsters in the eyes of the world. But to Dr. Caterina Vaughan, they are something far more treacherous, something intense and fascinating that she can't seem to keep her professional distance from.
As their therapy sessions blur into manipulative mind games and fantasy twists into fixation, Caterina is seduced into an unhinged web of fractured truths and buried violence. The deeper she delves into their psyches, the harder it becomes to tell whether she's curing them or they're awakening something darker that lies deep within her.
One whispers in riddles and chaos. The other paints her with words dipped in blood, using his mind to wrap her in his sinister games. Both are broken. Both are always watching, always waiting for an opportunity to sate their hunger. Both see something in Caterina that no one else ever has.
Now, neither intends to let her go, at least not 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆.
They say love is a kind of 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔, but in Wellard Asylum, it might just be the deadliest 𝒔𝒊𝒏, and there's no way to escape your 𝒇𝒂𝒕𝒆.
Darkly erotic, psychologically intense, and soaked in deadly secrets, Lethal is a razor-edged standalone thriller that asks: what happens when the one studying monsters begins to fall for them? This is book three of the Wellard Asylum shared world and features an MFM love triangle.
Loved every second of this degraded Mind F! This series is truly unhinged in the most beautifully and dark twisted way. On to the next delightful book of horrors!
"Careful, Caterina. The monsters are watching, and they like what they see."
Best one in the series so far, out of the three I've read. I have about 10 more to go, so we'll see which book ends up as my ultimate fave.
Anyway, I ended Lethal with a desire to check out more of A. L. Maruga's works, so I count that as a win.
It was dark, and unhinged, but just the right amount, so I had a really good time reading it. The ending twist was arguably my fav part, it elevated the whole book, and made me wish I hadn't paused reading at 70% for so long!! It wasn't on purpose though, I've just been busy.
NOW MIND YOU, I'm normally not a fan of twists like that one, especially because we had a very similar one in one of the other Wellard Asylum books, but it worked here.
Also, do keep in mind that the twins are bananas, you won't like hearing what they have to say most of the time, so just plug your ears y'all!! You've been warned.
4.5⭐️ I got an arc, but my rating/review are my own!
I have so many questions about that ending😮😮 I lovedddd how possessive and unhinged the twins were. the trio? so damm hotttt. the question and answers she was seeking and how twisted that got???🤌
this series is been everything I wanted and I cannot wait to read the rest.
Я шокована сюжетними поворотами, самими близнюками і подіями що відбуватись в цій новелі🤯 Таки краще її розтягувати на декілька днів а то я за один день прочитала і в мене розболілась голова
Thank you to BookSirens and the author for providing an ARC of Lethal by A.L. Magura in exchange for honest feedback.
What in the dark dark world did I just read?! This was a wild, disturbing ride about some legit depraved individuals…and I’m covering my eyes while I say this but I liked it. I’m typically a horror and thriller girl but tend to grab a romance or lit fic when I need a palette cleanser. This had a little bit of horror, thriller and dark romance all mashed up in one story. It was giving 365 Days meets Shutter Island.
I lowkey love that it was less than 300pgs too. I feel like so many dark romance books are 450pgs and up, but this was short sweet and to the point. It gave me everything I needed and keep things moving.
I have to say that I feel dirty admitting this but I will definitely be reading more in this series.
DNF at 25%. I really like the characters, but it’s not for me. The two MCs are serial killers, torture, Hannibal Lecter shit. I like the heroine as the psychiatrist whose caseload includes the two brothers locked up in the mental hospital, but I don’t want to read anymore. Seems like there will be more explicit gore etc. just from the way it is starting.
Okay, this book was a real peak—probably one of the best horror erotica novels I’ve ever read.
Please make sure to check the content warnings before diving in. Saying this was “dark” feels like an understatement.
When you enter Wellard Asylum, nothing is as it seems. This is a Doctor x Patients story with an MFM dynamic that will truly shock you. I loved how brutal the twins were when they were free to roam, as well as their eerie association with the circus (which honestly creeped me out—even more so since circuses have always given me chills).
I kind of predicted the plot twist at the end, but what I actually got was ten times more than I expected. Every single novella in this series has managed to surprise me, and this one was no exception.
The spice was excellent, and I loved that the main male characters are twins. I’ve always wanted to read something like this, and I’m so glad this book found me.
If you enjoy horror stories with a mind-blowing twist at the end, definitely consider picking this one up. You won’t regret it.
This is part of the Wellard asylum series so as always and mentioned previously - please check your triggers! ❌ Clowns! Got a clown trigger? 🤡 proceed with caution.
The thriller lover in me truly ate this up! I really needed to stop and gather my thoughts after finishing this because I want to do justice to the depraved roller coaster this is.
Catarina is the treating doctor for the twins within Wellard Asylum. The Norwood twins are seductive and violent - oh and serial killers committed to the Asylum and yet, I still cannot blame Dr Vaughan for risking it all for them 😂 The twins draw her into a violent web of depravation. The events that unfold are insane. This is an erotic psychological horror. It’s violent and gory, and yet in the end I was so emotionally attached to each of them. I truly don’t know when it happened but I loved it !!!
I was so consumed by the twins, the doctor and their story that when the twists hit - I was gobsmacked!
Yessssssssssssssssssssssss!!! Let's do this shit! Will update in a couple of hours when I've finished!
ok- i finally finished. I definitely slowed down, it dragged a bit for me at about 60%. Then i just buckled down and finished and it was an interesting read to say the least. It was a good ending, i had my suspicions and they were not completely incorrect. The ending made up for the slow middle.
I feel like I shouldn’t really rate this because I knew going in that it was more erotic horror, so the fact that I got grossed out is my own damn fault, not the authors. I did feel like it was similar to the other book I read in this series by another author, so I think I’m good stopping here with the series.
Do read if you like crazy, completely unhinged serial killers whose crimes are laid out in graphic detail and littered with some good smut. 😅
Honestly, this was dark and kinda messed up… but in a good way. The whole asylum setting with Caterina and the twins just works — it’s more about mind games and tension than action, which makes it feel heavier. The dynamic gets more twisted the deeper it goes, and you’re kinda just watching everything spiral. At some point you’re not even sure who’s in control anymore.
This book was fascinating from the jump—depraved serial killer, cannibalistic twins, and an obsession with a stunning doctor had me instantly locked in. The middle of the book turned steamy, with juicy details that cranked the intensity way up.
But the ending? Whew. I did NOT see that coming. The twist had my brain doing somersaults, and for a few chapters I was questioning everything and trying to deny the reality of what I’d just read. Dark, twisted, and completely mind-bending—this one will stick with me.
“Ring around your silence… A pocket full of screams… we’re coming for you, dolly... you’re already ours to eat.”
This was everything I ever wanted and so much more. Excuse my Canadian French but, what the actual F**k. I’m obsessed. Quick reminder though: even though the Carnevil Twins are hot, obsessive, possessive, and dangerously charismatic in their own morally black way… this is not a dark romance. Please check the trigger warnings before diving in.
Our FMC, Caterina, is the sixth psychiatrist assigned to “The Norwood Twins”, two of the most dangerous individuals to ever step foot in Wellard Asylum. Everyone expects her to fail like all the others before her. But Caterina isn’t just there for a job, she has her own motivations, and the twins may be the key to the answers she’s been searching for.
“Next time, I’ll fuck this beautiful mouth and take your air away. I might even let you breathe once again when I’m done. Then again, I might not.”
Listen… I fear I’d fall victim to both Bash and Wren in a heartbeat. Like, take my fingers and turn them into little hotdogs, I don’t even care. These two are psychopathic, serial unalivers, and absolutely unhinged. And yet? The way they balance each other one smooth and charismatic, the other chaotic and feral creates this perfect storm of creepy danger and toxic lust.
10/10. I would absolutely read this again, because it was that good.
The twist in this book almost had me throwing my kindle…almost. To say I didnt see it coming is an understatement.
I fell in love with Bash and Wren. Especially Wren with his unhinged rhymes. The Carnevil twins are going to sit with me for a long time because what was that?!
You have Caterina out doctor who is out for revenge for the death of her cousin and while hunting for the truth her obsession with the twins takes hold and what happens when they hold the secrets to what reallt happened? Will she give into their depraved wishes or will she maintain her boundaries?
This pushed me to the brink honestly. But I loved it!!!
Things you can expect:
🩸Twin Serial Unalivers 🖤 Enemies to Lovers 🩸Throat Necklaces 🖤 Power Imablance 🩸 Forced Proximity 🖤 Doctor x Patients 🩸 Dub Con 🖤 Mind Games 🩸 Erotic Horror 🖤 Primal 🩸 Obession 🖤 Killer 🤡
Warning: Please check the trigger warnings before reading this book as there are many dark topics in this book. If you dare to read it, grab your straight jacket and enter the Wellard Asylum.
I was hooked from the beginning. Bash and Wren are so dark and twisty that could can almost understand the obsession that Caterina has with them. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. The ending was such a plot twist I was not expecting!
Whoever said this has some sort of HEA is completely bs, and I didn't even want them to get any sort of happy ending, because all the characters are evil, awful, disgusting, and twisted, but the way it ended is simply a FU to the reader.
This is real horror, so it's supposed to be awful and not have any sort of good or happy in it, but what happened at the end just made this book a complete waste of time, I hate it when authors do this kind of thing, what is even the point of writing a book if that's going to be the ending?
I got through a good chunk of it, but honestly I just couldn’t connect with it. The writing style and all the internal thoughts were too much for me, and it made it hard to stay interested. I know some readers will definitely like it. I couldn’t finish, but I’m still glad I got the chance to read the ARC. Thank you so much A.L. Maruga, for the opportunity! 🥰❤️
"Ring around the silence, tied up nice and neat. A pocket full of fingers, snipped and cooked to eat. Ashes... ashes... we laughed as you go down..."
Umm...
I'm officially out of words… again 😭
You know how your girl always waltzes down the FORKING spiral staircase to hell? This time? I collided with a pair of psychopath twins. A CARNEVIL twins. Totally chaotic, absolutely unhinged. It was so dark, so twisted, and a messy thrill that made my pulse pound and my sanity question itself. I can't stop, and honestly… I don't want to 😈
And you want to know what they do to me? To Caterina? To Cecelia? They crawl inside my mind, twisting every thought, making me doubt what's real and what's a lie. Every word, every promises, feels like a trap, and I don't know how much longer I can hold on before the spiral completely consumes me 😩
Your girl plunged back into chapters twenty-seven through thirty-two - TWICE! I swear, if chaos had a face, it's staring at me from these pages. I might need Wellard Asylum on speed dial. My sanity is officially on fire 😫
A 6☆ read, and trust me when I say you're not ready for the twins. Bash and Wren will rip your sanity to shreds. My brain's still reeling, and yeah... pretty sure your girl needs a permanent bed at the asylum just to survive this madness 😭
⚠️ This story will seduce your mind and leave you questioning reality. The darkness will crawl under your skin and will haunt you long after the last page. Trigger warnings in full effect ☠️
Thank you for shattering my sanity 😂 and for giving me the chance to read this early 🖤
Okay I’m going to be honest here when I first found the arc applications for this I was hesitant. 60+ TW list what got me hesitant was the clown part. But I decided to give it a go and I’m so glad I did. I loved it and I’m speechless what do I say?!?
The carnevils are twin serial killers in Wellard Asylum. Wren is the one who hears many voices in his head one being a clown, a little boy, old lady, old man and more. Bash is the one who tries to keep his twin brother under control and protects him. He is also the one who falls in love with Caterina first.
Caterina is the carnevil twins doctor. A therapist. She is there in the asylum to talk to patients about what they have done to be in there. She is also there for her own agenda to find out what happened to her cousin Cecelia in that place. She never meant to fall for them. So things get interesting. She wants to know more and they want to play with her. So she does things to get the information she wants.
The plot twist tho. Is she really Caterina or is she Cecelia?!?
Dr. Halstead runs the Wellard asylum. He is watching everything all the time. He says she is Cece and that everything was in her head. I don’t want to give to much away I probably already have. That ending tho OMG I was shook.
This is a dark erotic horror thriller book so please please please check the 60+ TWs for your own sake.

The first thing that I want to say about this book is that I read it and finished it in one day. It will not mean much to anyone but me, but my depression has worsened the past few months, and not only was my focus to sit through a book affected, but so was my ability to enjoy what I read. This book hooked me from the get-go, but it also kept my attention until the end. I didn't want to put it down. I was captivated.
Second, these characters were solidly and painstakingly written—their histories, experiences, psyches, traumas. The attention to detail made their interactions with one another palpable and electric. How was the spicy scenes, you ask? The author COOKED and I ate every bit of it.
Third, I did not expect for this book to hit me HARD. About 3/4 in, I started wondering how it would end. I felt that it was building up to something, but it was beyond what I would've imagined. There were themes and details that seemed mildly repetitive, but after I've finished the book, I realized that it gave the over-all story and the ending more impact. My heart broke, yo.
Lastly—this wasn't my introduction to the Wellard Asylum series. I've read a couple of others, and I loved and enjoyed them both! But if you are starting with this one, it will set the standard high early on.
⚠️ Warning!!! This book has pitch-black themes - Please check TW/CW!!! ⚠️
I finished this book in one go! We have Cat, who is a Doctor at the Wellard Asylum, to Bash and Wren, two very unhinged psychopaths who were known as the "Carnevil Twins". The Asylum is for the worst of the criminally ill, and the employees are as monstrous as the patients there. As time goes on, Cat isn't sure if she's the one who's in control or if she's starting to fall for the madness within them!
This was an exciting read with suspense, mystery, spicy scenes, asylums for mentally ill villains, and plot twists (I guessed a bit, but not all!).
If you are into erotic horror thriller books with unhinged serial unalivers in asylums, then I highly recommend this book (also, if you're into special editions, check those out! )

I’m going to admit I was looking forward to this one upon mention of the twins 🤭 it did not disappoint, grabbed my hair and pulled me all the way in. The doctor, Catalina lives by her ethics until she doesn’t, as the twins, Wren and Bash seem to have a hold on her, one she just can’t turn away from. Dr. Halstead keeps his beady eyes on her too but to what degree 🤔 Their love for 🩸seeps into their conversations, the lust fills their eyes but is it aimed at her or what they see inside? I am not giving you any more than this because it is put quite simply, a book you need to read, so stop clowning around, grab the strap and hold on tight!
Not the first book I’ve read by this author, her writing is great and this one is no exception, she builds you up, gives you the spice, the mayhem of twins, the darkness you crave and the ending you really, really, do not deserve 😈😈😈🤭
That was a haunted rollercoaster of a ride. A psychological twist that I honestly did not see coming. 💀
Mental asylum, twisted twins, a sprinkle of eating people, some filthy scenes, and a plot twist that will make you want to re-read as soon as you've finished.
Check your triggers for this one! Has some disturbing topics and scenes, but I highly recommend reading if you have a strong stomach and are in the mood for a book that will literally fuck with your head and have you thinking you're the insane one. 😮💨
Welcome to Wellard Asylum.. where nothing is what it seems. Cecilia is a therapist in Wellard and the patients she has chosen to work with are Wellard’s most dangerous patients… Bash & Wren Norwood. You see Bash & Wren aren’t of the “average” psychopath kind. Wren has many voices that tell him to do very dark things and Bash is his twin who sort of grounds him. But together, they have a very disturbing appetite. They’re known as The Carnevil Twins.
Caterina has chosen to work at Wellard & with the twins for her own selfish reasons. See, her cousin, Cecilia, was committed to Wellard many years ago and things happened to her there.. things that ultimately resulted in her death. While treating Bash & Wren, they become convinced she belongs with them. Bash just has to get her to follow along.. and he’s got the perfect way.. tell her the answers to the secrets she’s been dying to uncover of what really happened to Cecilia.
But the Caterina works with these disturbing twins, the more she realizes, she may have a lot more in common with them and the truth about why she’s REALLY at Wellard will have your jaw on the floor.
Wow!! What a disturbing read!!! Initially I thought it was kind of slow.. but the more Caterina became involved with the twins.. the more intense it became. The author did an excellent job at writing Wren’s other voices. While Bash & Wren were EXTREMELY dark and disturbed.. their bond with each other was somewhat beautiful. Bash was definitely the protector and Wren, as much as he loved his brother, had this element of jealousy.. he thought that everyone always liked Bash. My black little soul held sympathy for Wren.
I definitely recommend giving this book a read, it’s fitting for spooky season. But .. BUT trigger warnings must be checked. This story is extremely dark and deranged and there’s some content that some people might think is just too far into the dark side. Even though the tension dipped during certain parts, the plot twists, the taboo relationship between doctor and patient, and the SPICE definitely made up for it. 4 stars!
