She had to say “yes.” To all of it .... Yes. For too long, Lily Welch suffered under the shadow of her repressive mother who thought the female body, and any pleasure derived from it, was bad – something shameful and meant to be hidden. While Lily’s 3 older sisters bent under the sway of the type of “touch shaming” their mother promoted, Lily went in a different direction.
She claimed her body. She enjoyed it. Touched it. Allowed it to be touched. Experienced it. Reveled in it. And in this, she found a piece of who she was ...
But it was only one piece – one tiny speck that encapsulates a whole woman.
In walks Matthew Reese. Handsome. Talented. Too smart for her to figure out upon a first meeting. Lily is sent spinning. For 23 years, she set a cap on her emotions while letting her sexuality flow wildly. Matthew ignites a mutiny within her, and she can no longer control her ever evolving feelings for him. Can she open up the pieces of her body while still protecting her heart?
It started with a journal at the age of about 7. Thoughts, poetry, poetry journals. Then plays. And screenplays. Boo Starling’s passion, however, is in books. The Undoing of Lily Welch is the first of many, many more to come.
Forewarning: do NOT read in public lol. This book is HOT! But beyond that, there is such a story and history in this book that I think everyone can relate to. It's a story about how one event can affect your way of thinking your entire life, and how meeting one person can change your entire outlook. Lily & Matthew have a great chemistry, and I loved this story!
I hardly ever have time to sit down and read. When I do, I'll be honest, I'm a Harry Potter kinda girl. I never read erotica. I have attempted to in the past, here and there, but found them to be boring due to the lack of significant character development, storyline, overall substance other than the sex, and even that has left me underwhelmed. I tried to read the "Best Seller" 50 Shades of whatnot. I'm pretty sure it was written by a 16 year old without a thesaurus.
All of that being said, I FREAKING LOVE THIS BOOK. You can tell that the author actually thought about her characters personalities. Lily is witty, willful, and smart. She knows who she is and what she wants. She is clearly "today's woman". I personally cannot wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve. Her writing style is so refreshing that I hope we see a lot more from her and not just in the erotica genre!
Seriously, I haven't done this much reading in a long time.. It just takes really great writing for me to get hooked. That being said, this book totally grabbed me. I like how Lily is a little rough around the edges, sassy, and confident with who she is. This is a great book.
looking for something hot to read, here you go. I've been struggling to find a good read lately. picking up lots of books and putting them down halfway through. not this book. I was being to think sex doesn't sell. Definitely not the case with lily Welsh.
While on the surface, The Undoing of Lily Welch may seem like "just another book about a sexual woman," but what lies in between the artfully seductive sex scenes is a transformative journey taken by characters that are expertly crafted and fantastically developed. From Lily's emotionally controlling mother, to the kindly Henry Wells found only once in a chance encounter in the antacids section of a drugstore aisle, the impact and relevance of every character, every interaction, is delightfully relevant and unlocks evermore the complexities that define who is, who was, and who Lily Welch will be. The story itself, is revealed as the reader follows Lily on her journey, and is accentuated by her own internal commentary. Sometimes lustful, sometimes hilarious, sometimes incredibly poignant, Lily's grapple and exploration with her internal self is the real show here.
The author's skillful use of pacing makes for an entertaining read all around. Much like life, the book journeys from one emotion to another, sometimes without warning, but never unwarranted. Her incredible sense of humor adds an unbelievably entertaining dynamic to a genre that, at times, takes itself too seriously. The humor doesn't outshine the intense introspective nature of the characters, it merely lends to making them almost real, tangible people.
It is definitely worth a read. Not only might the book reveal to you some inner truth within yourself, but it is also far better than watching a Paul Rudd marathon. As Lily herself says: "People don’t have life-changing epiphanies during a Paul Rudd marathon."
I really really enjoyed this one. Although the story has the makings of a romance we've all read before, (damaged girl finds damaged guy, fights emotional barriers) the author takes it deeper and in a new way than what I have read before. I love the background that was given on the main character and the way that she saw the world. It made me love her and understand her so much more. The storyline of her past to present and all that sexual tension really hooked me in. Glad I gave it a chance.
"Lilly oh Lilly" what a beautiful but troubled woman. She is strong but he weak. She loves her body and loves what men can do to it. She doesn't want a commitment, she just goes from one guy to the next. She meets Mathew in college and then years after. Wow....what happens "years after college" is to DIE for.
The story is very well written. The sex in it is HOT and there is a great deep story to it also.
I loved the mix of the story of romance, and the trouble and baggage people carry.
This story will really make you think about relationships and how they work...and BOY do they work on this one.
I had a hard time keeping focused with this story. It jumped around a lot and left me having to reread parts just to keep up. I think the overall intention of the story was good and it was sweet that the characters ended up facing their own fears to be together, but I didn't ever really feel that connected with either character. The story is told in third person, yet tried making it from Lily's point of view, which was a little confusing sometimes.
Lily & Matthew. Two broken souls who made themselves & then rediscovered their real selves. Lily is my true ideal of a real woman! Loved the back story & the journey they both traveled. I borrowed this from the library, but I am definitely buying it!
This is a great debut by Boo Starling! I absolutely loved Lily and Matthew. The secondary characters were awesome too. The story flowed flawlessly. Lily is a strong minded, independent woman. Matthew...*swoon*. The chemistry between these two could possibly set your kindle on fire.
Why this author has written only one book is beyond me and a true tragedy! An amazing voyage through the debris of damaged souls, healing and sex scenes more real and thorough than anything 50 Shades threw out there!
This was my first time reading a book by Boo Starling and I thoroughly enjoyed every word. It was well-written and I didn't want to put my Kindle down. I would give this one 6 stars if I could.
Mathew & Lily what a collision! This story is filled with passion, sex, and romance. I loved the relationship and dialogue between the main characters.
