As Far As The Eye Can See

Rate this book
Odessa Drake’s once-wealthy family has fallen on hard times, however Odessa doesn’t realize how hard until she discovers that her father, Connor, has secretly answered an advertisement in her behalf for a mail-order bride. Pretending to be Odessa, Connor corresponds with the Dakota Territories wealthiest rancher, Clinton Cody, a man who seems coldly calculating and businesslike from his letters – far from the loving husband Odessa dreamed of someday marrying. Forced onto a train West, her father as her jailer, Odessa and Connor travel to the Double C Ranch where she is charged to marry Cody in exchange for money that will save her family’s business.

When they arrive, they find Cody is out on the range, trying to save his herd from ruthless rustlers, and Odessa, as the future Mrs. Cody, is asked to take on some responsibilities and make decisions she isn’t ready for. Swallowing her fear, Odessa bravely forges through, coming to love the unfamiliar land, the ranch and the people she meets there. Then, just days before the wedding, they learn that Cody is shot and dying. Will Odessa have to leave the land she’d come to love, losing the family business in the process?

Good but short

Good but short

Good explanation of reluctant bride to unknown groom. Influence of mother excellent but father was cruel, interested only in own desires and ending provided no explanation for conclusion of his fate.

Great but too short

I really enjoyed this story but it was way too short. I would have loved to read it in more detail.
