What if the man who stole your heart also took your sister’s life?
The Demonio family has ruled New York City’s underworld for decades, leaving a trail of blood and destruction in their wake. When Siena’s hunt for her sister’s killer leads her straight into their crosshairs, the stakes couldn’t be higher. She’s stolen something they desperately want—and now they’ve sent someone to deal with her.
Matti is a capo for the Demonio family, ruthless and unrelenting. Tasked with recovering what’s theirs and silencing Siena, he knows the family loyalty comes first. But Siena is more than just a target—she’s a temptation he can’t resist. Torn between protecting her and fulfilling his duty, Matti must betray his family or his own heart.
Siena:
The sound of my sister's plane exploding haunts me every night. Revenge is all I have left—until he walks into my life.
Matti is dangerous, gorgeous, and hiding secrets behind those piercing blue eyes. He’s a distraction I can’t afford... unless he’s the one who destroyed my family. If he is, I’ll burn his world to the ground.
Matti:
My job was track her down, take back what she stole, and eliminate her. But from the moment I saw her, everything changed.
Siena is mine now, and I’ll kill anyone who tries to take her from me—even if it’s my own family.
Passion collides with vengeance in this dark mafia romance where love may destroy them both.
This book is a dark unconventional romance and contains themes that may not suit all readers. Please check the author's note for content warnings before reading. This is also the first half of a duet and as such ends in a cliffhanger that is resolved in the second half of the duet, Shield.
This book was a first for me from this author and let me tell you !!! I am OBSESSED 💪 🥵
SIENA is our fiesty and independent FMC … she knows something tragic has happened to her sister and she is determined to find out what it is … MATTI our OTT possessive MMC starts to feel something for her from their first meeting … she fights him at every single turn … BUT guess what ? He is here for it .. the tension , the angst , the secrets , lies and deception will have you on the edge of your seat !! I cannot wait to see the conclusion to their explosive love story !! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Siena’s world falls apart with the loss of her sister Emily and her husband. Going to the crash site in search of answers, which she doesn’t get but is able to acquire some of her possessions to help her feel close and connected, she encounters a man who is enigmatic as he is aloof. When he learns who she is, warning flags go off in his mind.
When going through her sister’s belongings, she comes across a USB, when she views the contents, it shocks her, but intrigues her at the same time. She reaches out to her brother Franco, a police officer, in the hopes that he will help her, only to deter her.
She decides to go sleuthing on her own, which puts her face to face with Matti and Vin, yet it’s Matti’s touch that ignites her skin, eliciting a need inside of her that has remained dormant, one that he as awoken, one that she doesn’t know how to reconcile with.
Siena peruses another avenue, this time with a lawyer, only this time, she finds herself in a compromising position that leaves her vulnerable, yet during her ordeal she comes face to face with her brother Franco, when he doesn’t step in to help her, she’s confused at first, until understanding dawns on her, yet when Matti comes to her aid, does it solidify her answer, despite being her family, she can no longer trust him.
Matti sequesters her at an undisclosed location. His intention is to keep her safe. But at every turn he is being told different things, facts that don’t add up, which he suspects is designed to throw him off the trail he is following. Matti wants answers and he will get them, but at what cost.
Matti and Siena being in close proximity to each other, stirs up unrequited feelings for both of them. Siena is feisty and independent where Matti is over the top possessive and dominant, yet they fight each other at every single turn, the tension and angst palatable, the foreplay will have you wanting more.
Yet the only thing separating Mattie and Siena is secrets, lies and deception, and the only way he can protect her is by letting her go.
The spice was spicy. Matti definitely has a skill set to which he uses to his advantage when is comes to pleasing Siena, because when it comes to her, he can’t see straight, his love for her blinding, his girl will be his undoing, because he has seen with his own eyes that she can hold her own and definitely give as good as she gets and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds for our illustrious characters in book 2!

WHAT IN THE CLIFFHANGER WAS THAT!
Wow this book hooked me from the beginning to the end! This book starts off strong and just gets better and better! On the edge of my seat waiting to see what’s gonna happen next! This is the first I’ve read from this author and I can’t wait to reach the next in this series!
Definitely check triggers there are a few since this is a mafia romance. There are dark aspects in this book!
Book 1 in the Demonio Brotherhood series: Matti and Siena. The emotional and physical push and pull between the MMC and FMC was done so well. Matti, the unhinged, alpha, touch her and d!e, brute mafia capo. Siena, the pint size, curvy, justice seeking, badass FMC. Really loved this FMC. She’s might be small but she isn’t meek and she fights with all she has to uncover the truth on her sisters death and the secrets that caused it. That cliffhanger has me jumping immediately into book 2 3/5⭐️
3 stars cause writing was decent & for a different type of story.
However for a Mafia story that hates loose ends this book is full of them.
1st I liked the FMC at times but mostly she was insanely too stupid to live (TSTL). Zero idea that her entire family was mafia, zero idea her own brother was mafia. Zero idea her own sister married into mafia. Zero idea that her one time cheering boyfriend was mafia?!
No idea what FMC's job was but she was broke enough to not be able to afford a decent car for over 12 years but apparently thought she was smart enough to investigate her sisters death.
The plane crash & sister's phone call was well done & realistic.
The part where FMC shows up & takes a bunch of her dead sisters stuff from the evidence truck was not.
The part where dumba$$ FMC goes to investigate another place & runs into the MMC & then let's him practically finger her while doing a body search in front of his buddy was gross.
Let's not forget all through this the FMC thinks 100% that the MMC killed her sister.
Sex scenes were nothing great & nothing we haven't seen before.
I find the unrealistic ways FMC plays with herself like she's auditioning for porn kinda cringe.
FMC isn't a virgin but she's also not the most experienced either & yet she's masturbating in front of the MMC after being hurt.
Then all of a sudden we are told by the MMC's inner monologue that she's "into pain because she took a cold show" .... What?!
Which I guess was forshadowing that the very inexperienced FMC is also totally into BDSM & the MMC is now a Dom that's all into bondage & punishments - for their first time together!
The entire time FMC is lying and back & forth about the MMC involvement with the death of her sister - yet she says yes when he asks if she trusts him to f*ck her *eye roll*.
That the tstl fmc was about to be raped by a henchman and her own brother (before he recognized her) who sat back & was about to let it happen. Who showed up to kill her at the law office & WHY is he still alive? Like at all? He wasn't needed & the fact that after all that she STILL went there to talk to him because he was still "family". And why did Mattinlet him live?? What happened to Alexandra the female attorney that the FMC went to visit? Last thing the FMC saw of her was she was unconscious but alive.
When the MMC sows up at the law office he mentions there are half a dozen bodies strewn around the office. Who were they? Were they shot? No cops were alerted?
That am only the FMC & the lawyer were present in the office. When FMC came to she didn't have a single thought about even asking the MMC about the lawyer she knew & put in danger? Like at all? ...so it's a lack of details like this that took me out of the story.
The FMC is very self centered and tunnel visioned about her sister's killer when it's convenient to excuse her impulsive actions- other times it's non existent while the MMC is nearby.
The self promoting done by author on the latest Gia Detroit book?
The ending why would Olivia say all those things right in front of Valentina like that?
She was very aware who she was & how toxic she is to both the MMC & his BFF.
I did like how Olivia slapped back on the MMC about how her experiences aren't like his in regards to men & why she tells men that Matti & her are bf/gf.
In Curse by Gia Detroit we meet Siena who is on the search for justice for her sister who is tragically killed in a plane crash. While there she meets Matti, a mafia capo who is also trying to find out what has happened in the crash. There was a lot but also not much happening in this book. I almost feel like there was a lot of running around with not a lot of substance. The FMC was doing everything but being smart about what she was doing, which caused me to shake my head way too often in this book. Then the miscommunication between the FMC and MMC was just a little irritating. I didn't believe in their relationship at all. Especially since they didn't even really get to speak to each other. They just kinda felt drawn to each other and did the do and BAM. Love. I was like....ummm ok. Especially considering the circumstances of everything. It was strange and unbelievable. Then we have Vin who is the MMC's bestie and also the heir apparent. He not only is apparently harboring lots of unresolved daddy issues towards his dad and won't let his bestie kill him. It's weird. Nothing gets explained. Just drops of info her and there. It leaves things feeling very unresolved. I didn't get a feeling of satisfaction when I finished this read. Just frustration. Even though this is a series, each book should at least feel like some part of the problem has been resolved. We barely know why what happened to Siena's sister happened. All of the villains are still alive and our main couple is not together. It just leaves a feeling of, why did I read this.
The spice in this book was ok. I didn't feel attached enough to the characters for things to really matter to me once they finally got down to it. Not to mention the fact that it just really felt like they didn't really have a relationship or anything to add to it. I'd give the spice a 3 out of 5, simply because it did happen. Overall I'd probably give this book a 2 out of 5. I just left the story feeling very unsatisfied and also very annoyed with almost all of the characters in this book. I'm unsure about recommending this. I mean it's got it's moments but overall it is definitely a book that you'd forget about later because you might have issues connecting with the characters. If you're just looking for something to pass the time, then yeah this would do it but it definitely probably isn't one that I'd say was exciting and had me coming back for more. As always, I say read it for yourself and see how you feel after reading it.
“Curse” is the first instalment in the “Demonio Brotherhood Series.” This is Gia’s debut novel and it is outstanding, I could not put it down. The story is riveting from start to finish - I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Siena’s life is torn apart when she finds out that her sister Emily is on the run with her husband Mickey. ”I can’t say anymore, Siena, and I don’t need your help. I shouldn’t even be calling. I don’t want to put you or anyone else in danger.” Then a deafening explosion blasts from the phone, the line crackles loudly and the line goes dead ….
Matti Dragovari is capo for the Demonio family. Aurelio Demonio is the head of the family and Matti’s job is track down what Mickey took with him. What he doesn’t expect is Siena - a thorn in his side that he is attracted to or should I say, slightly obsessed with her.
“His eyes are dark as he glares at me, and I am trapped in his gaze. Bending down so that his forehead is close to mine, he whispers harshly, “Stop.” His voice is commanding even as a whisper, and I can’t move. Heat emanates off his body, and his piercingly dark blue eyes are intense and absolutely no nonsense. And *##*, his hands are so strong.”
Matti is normally a one night stand type but Siena is a temptation that he sees a future with but it would mean going against the family. His family, the only one that he has ever know. Does he betray his family or his heart ….. could love destroy them both?
The story is full of passion, humor, intrigue, betrayal, vengeance, power, control, twists and turns around every corner - most of all love ♥️ There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! The story goes from pages that are sizzling, to extreme violence to the most beautiful tender moments! I’m very happily hooked 😊 I did not want it to end! Just so that you are aware, this does end on a cliff hanger….
A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊
Tropes 💕Cliffhanger 🖤He falls first, 💕Dark mafia story 🖤Touch her and d!e vibes 💀 Ruthless, possessive MMC 🖤 Feisty FMC ready to fight for her family 🔥 A war for power, loyalty, and revenge
Curse: A Demonio Brotherhood Dark Mafia Romance is the first book in the Demonio Brotherhood Duet by Gia Detroit. This book ends with a cliffhanger, and this is the first time I have read this author.
If you like a book that starts off fast paced this is your book. Siena (MFC) is talking with her sister Emily while driving. Her sister calls her to tell her that she and her husband are leaving the area because they are in danger. While talking to her sister who is in a plane – the plane blows up. Siena travels to where she thinks the plane blew up and she meets Matti Dragovari (MMC) – who gives off strange vibes. They are working to pull the wreckage from the lake and Siena sees things that belong to her sister. People start to wonder who she is and Siena is wondering who they are. However, Matti (who is a made Mafia capo) is attracted to Siena and just observes her. Unknown Siena, she does not know exactly what her sister and husband were involved in. Eventually they ask Siena to leave, and she does. However, she takes her sister’s belongings with her. This action puts Siena in danger. There are deep secrets that she knows nothing about but she is determined to find out.
This action moves her into the direction of being involved with Matti. Matti and Siena interaction is 🔥🔥🔥. Their chemistry and passion are page melting. They challenge each other, which is really fun to read.
The side characters add lots of depth to the storyline and will put Siena and Matti through tough times. I cannot wait for the second book.
It only took me few hours to basically devour this book and now it holds me captive along with the anticipation of the 2nd book
The beginning of the book was as intriguing as it was confusing, felt like I was dropped in an unfamiliar setting with no walkthrough manual😂 In the process of reading puzzle pieces slowly came together, so it's a matter of a personal experience
Also,I liked that it doesn't take more than 5 chapters for FMC to meet MMC, so the introduction wasn't too stretched out. I expected that the encounter would occur 2 chapters later at least, so the actual plot pace was a pleasant surprise. The MMC description is just🔥, even though it's akin to the canonical way the mobsters are depicted
Dual pov isn't that common, and I think it's a tough one to "craft", so another "+" for sure. The chemistry, both physical and emotional is noticeable since the very first confrontation, and I actually like that it's not literal slow-burn. The MC relationship is dynamic and passionate, and realistically depicted at that
The 15th chapter is insanely hot (next ones are even better ofc), but the way MMC beats AJ up... just perfect🤭
The ending left me waiting for more (sounds actually dark-romancey🖤)
Overall, huge thanks to the author for the opportunity to read such a captivating book, and I'm looking forward to the Book 2!🫶🏻
I was so not ready for the story to end on a cliffhanger. I knew it was going to as it is a duet but it still doesn't prepare for the wait for the next book. I really loved Siena and Matti. Matti is your dark, morally grey, mafia, bad boy. He doesn't do relationships let alone more than one time with any woman. He is very stunted in his skills as a boyfriend. He has never had to be one. In walks, Siena and she flips his world upside down. She makes him want and crave things he never knew he wanted. There are a lot of twist and turns in this book. The secrets are mounting and no one knows who is the bad guy and who they need to be worried about. Siena gets a call from her sister and goes looking for her. Little does she know she has stepped into a world she was not aware she was apart of. Matti is sent to find something and stumbles upon Siena. They both have and instant connection and chemistry. One interaction is not enough. The author does such a good job at the world building and character development. I was left wanting more. I am so ready for the next book and to see what other characters will be getting their own book.
I do enjoy a dark mafia romance and this one was good. There are definite trigger warnings so please check those out before reading this book and it is also very spicy so if that's not your jam then you've been warned. Final warning, it's a duet so it ends on a CLIFFHANGER! I'm a sucker for duets and trilogies so I loved that it's going to span more than one book.
I like the authors writing style and it flowed very well making it a very easy read. The story keeps you engaged. It's pretty insta love for a mafia romance but it worked. Matti and Siena meet when Siena's sister's plane goes down and he is at the crash site. He is immediately drawn to her and almost bordering on obsessed. She is looking for answers but by doing so puts herself in danger. Matti keeps her safe even though she doesn't understand that's what he is doing. There are lots of twists and turns in this book and I suspect a few more to come in book 2!
Definitely worth a read if you enjoy a fast paced, dark mafia romance between an ordinary girl and a dark hero!
This story had me hooked within the first chapter. Nobody wants to hear the last words from a sibling the way Siena did. Curse had me all over the place with my feelings. There were moments I had tears in my eyes. But for the most part I was talking out loud to Mattie. He is described as A delicious snack. The way he treats his girl and gets very protective. I see you Matteo. Sienna is a curvy, feisty, and determined woman. The way she never gave up even after all the crap she went through. I loved how siena never broke even when her body wanted to to. But I got so upset with how she was treated in the end. I was yelling at Mattie to get out of his head and actually see what is going on behind him. I was so anxious, because I had no idea what was going to happen. Then I got angry with Mattie, I understood why he did what he did but I was still mad.
It does end on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book. Make sure to read the trigger warnings.
Thank you Gia for being patient with me and having me on your team
This is the first ever mafia romance that I've read and I have to say, even though the beginning of the story took a bit for me to get into due to the action starting straight away rather than a slow build up, I soon fell in love with Matti!! My goodness he means business and man is he hot! I thought Siena was a strong and independent female lead whose strong will and defiance of Matti and everything he stood for really made for some scorching love scenes! I was expecting more of a cliffhanger at the end of book 1 looking at other reviews but I didn't quite get one. But that didn't matter because this author has really created something here with this story. Matti will literally burn the world down for the woman he loves and he will stop at nothing to do exactly that. I can't wait to read the next one!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Shield picks up right where Curse left off, with Siena healing/reeling. Matti, for his part, is doing everything he can to protect Siena—even if that means pushing her away. He's keeping a close eye on her and everyone around her. Meanwhile, Siena is determined to uncover who killed her sister and why. Her brother’s a crooked cop, her relationship with her mother is nonexistent, and aside from her cousin, she has no one else to lean on. Matti has turned his back on his own family to keep Siena safe.
The chemistry between Matti and Siena is off the charts—intense, fiery, and impossible to ignore. Together, they’re determined to uncover the truth and bring her sister’s killer to light.
I loved this book and can’t wait for Tommy’s story to be published next. Hopefully, it will be followed by Vin's!
Siena is the last person to hear from her sister before her plane explodes mid-air. Determined to uncover the truth, she finds herself entangled with Matti, a member of the Demonio mafia family, which leads to a web of secrets and betrayals.
Siena is feisty and certainly stands up for herself, but in the dangerous world she has entered, it’s questionable whether she can truly protect herself. Matti is possessive and controlling, and both of them find themselves caught in the crossfire of a life filled with pain and hidden truths. I’m eager to see how these two will survive the challenges that lie ahead.
This is a quick, well-written read, packed with excitement, pain, betrayal, and enough twists and turns to keep you engaged.
Curse was such a good read. And @thegiadetroit left me on a MF cliffhanger!!!! Girl how rude lol. This book had all kinds of twists and turns that I highly enjoyed. Though beware if you are easily triggered by SA and assault because there is quite a bit of it. Sienna is a woman who falls for a mafia capo who is looking for evidence for his mafia boss that makes him look bad. Matti is instantly attracted to Sienna but doesn’t do relationships. He goes out of his way to protect her even if it doesn’t look like it. Can they remain together in the end? Read the next book to find out!!!! Oh and the spice by spicing!!!! The shower scene and prison room….yummy 😂🫦🥵 #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #darkromance #smutromance #mafiaromancebooks
What a stellar book for a debut! In a crooked world, Sienna has her life turned upside down when disaster strikes. And things only go from bad to worse as she’s dragged deeper, surrounded by danger, threat, monsters and mystery. But Matti wasn’t expecting Sienna to be anything more than a thorn in his side. Sure she’s also that, but he is drawn to everything about her, her fiery personality, her bratty behaviour and something else he can’t put his finger on. He doesn’t want to feel anything for her, but is it even a choice for him? The story kept on building, drawing me in to need to know all the answers - spoiler alert - you don’t get them all, because…. CLIFFHANGER! Ahhhh… counting down to the release of Shield. 4.5 ⭐️ 3.5 🌶️
Obsessed. Matti owns me. Siena feels like someone I know, maybe even someone I’ve been. Their push and pull was addictive and hot and so damn frustrating in the best way. I loved how real she felt and how hard he burned for her. Their connection hit like a punch and I was living for every second of it.
The pacing was on point, the writing was clean and sharp, and Già Detroit knows exactly how to suck you in and make you care. I want to be besties with Olivia immediately. That girl steals every scene she's in. Every character felt layered, messy, and worth rooting for. I screamed at the villains, I cursed the betrayals, and I’m already itching to dive into Shield.
What a way to start this duet! Book 1 in the Demonio Family series is Matti and Siena's story. It starts off with one heckuva bang and ends the same way. It ends on a cliffhanger so be prepared for that and although I didn't find it to be what I would consider dark, there are elements that may be sensitive to some readers so make sure you check trigger warnings before you start reading. Even with the cliffhanger Curse is absolutely fantastic and July is way too long to wait for Shield! This is a new/new to me author and if Curse is any indication of what's coming I'm all in!
I love Matti and Siena! These two are hot together! This book was such a great read and I couldn’t put it down! It starts off with a bang and ends in a cliffhanger leaving you wanting the next one right now!!!!
For once you find a character who didn’t grow up in the mafia but the girl can hold her own. Her brother is just a scum bucket!
Can’t wait to see what will happen with Matti and Siena in the next book! Great read and you need to check this one out! You won’t be sorry!
This book is so fast paced no sugar coating needed when the spice scenes start to pop out and this absolutely deserves 5/5 🌶️ I had to stop and fan myself for a bit! Now for the plot it deals with Siena trying to find out who killed her sister and in the process meets Matti she then ends up with more questions than answers the further the story goes but be warned it ends in a CLIFFHANGER like why 😭
Absolutely gripping from the very first page. Curse had me completely pulled in with its intense opening and just kept building with every chapter. The pacing was perfect, the tension was electric, and I couldn’t put it down — I ended up reading it all in one sitting. Gia Detroit has crafted a dark romance that’s both emotionally raw and utterly addictive. She’s officially on my auto-read list, and I can’t wait to see what she brings us next.
One word Obsessed! It had me hooked from the very beginning. The story starts so strong and it continued to build. It was exciting to read and I read it from start to finish in one go and cannot wait to read the next book. Gia Detroit is now one of my favorite dark romance others and I can’t wait to see more of her work. Truly amazing!
What a power punch mafia story!! Siena certainly is a strong willed woman. Her drive from the start of the book, gets her answers AND in trouble. Matti, a man on a mission, becomes blindsided but Siena. Their attraction leads to destruction and secrets unraveling. Add in a “villain” Valentina and I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!!
First book for me to read from Gia and she did not disappoint!
Matti, the dark, mysterious Mafia man and Siena, a feisty woman who has no clue that her family is in bed with the Mafia. I loved Siena's fight even when she's in the worst situations.
For a man who never has 'sleepovers', he certainly falls for Siena fast, but it's a great story that is left on a cliffhanger.
This was a good read!!! This was an arc book for me and just finding Gia Detroit! I’ll be looking for more books from her. I can’t wait for the final part of this duet comes out. I devoured this book from the first chapter. Then for it to end on a cliff hanger my mouth dropped. I can’t wait for shield to come out in July! Hopefully I can be an arc reader for the ending of Matti and Siena story.
Matti and Siena holy heck! Matti is not used to anyone telling him no, or fighting back. When he meets Siena and all she does is tell him no and fight him, he’s hooked. He can’t get her out of his mind and wants to make her his. But Siena is having trouble falling for a man who may have killed her sister.
