Tota meets Kirië Sakurame, a mysterious member of UQ Holder. Kirië looks like a little girl, but is apparently the wealthy patron of UQ Holder. Tota accompanies her on a trip to the tower to meet Karin (returning from the Moon), but the trip appears to have another purpose. The powerful wizard Fate Averruncus, former ally of Tota's grandfather Negi, wants to take possession of Tota for reasons unknown. Despite having Karin, Ikku, Kirië and Kuromaru with him, they stand little chance of stopping Fate, who possesses unfathomable power. Why does Fate want Tota? And can Kirië's secret plan succeed in stopping him?
Ken Akamatsu (赤松 健, Akamatsu Ken, July 5, 1968 -) is a Japanese mangaka from Tokyo.
In his teenage years, Akamatsu failed the entrance exam to Tokyo University, and applied for Film Study instead (it is speculated that this is where he got the idea for Love Hina). Eventually, he became famous as an illustrator featured in Comiket (short for Comic Market, a comic convention bi-annually held in Japan). He used the pen name Awa Mizuno (水野 亜和, MIZUNO Awa). Akamatsu, still in college, then proceeded to win the Weekly Shonen Magazine award twice. His "A Kid's Game for One Summer" was awarded the coveted 50th Shonen Magazine Newcomer's Award soon after he graduated.
After a big hit with A.I. Love You, he finally made a grand success with his new manga, Love Hina. The series appeared in Weekly Shonen Magazine and has been collected in eleven volumes (with fourteen volumes in total), which have sold over 6 million copies in Japan, and received the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen in 2001. Akamatsu had added elements of his own life experiences to the story, and this was said to have induced a unique feeling to the manga especially for Western readers, whose lack of familiarity with Japanese culture for the most part added to the effect. The series, published in America in 2002, was especially well received in many overseas countries - Akamatsu was surprised that even foreign readers found Love Hina to be "cute" and to their liking.
He is now married to his wife 'Kanon' Akamatsu, who was previously a singer/idol. He is currently working on his latest manga series, Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, which is his longest running manga so far. Like Love Hina, has also been made into an anime series. A second independent retelling of Negima was made called Negima!?. Both series were produced by XEBEC (Negima!? was produced by SHAFT).
Not a long review due to various reasons (too easy to spoil is one of them).
This was once again a fantastic volume. Also a lot of information dump (which is typical of this mangaka/author) and also a whole lot of action.
We learn a whole bunch of new things, and we also see some of the older Negima crew popping up or making an appearance. I really love that, and I hope that we will soon see Negi pop up, I would love to see him now, after so many years.
We also have various new characters, including one named Kirie who was really awesome and had a great ability (though one that could also be abused/blocked, I am kind of worried about that). And we have a new enemy, well not entirely new, but we finally meet with him, and dear Lord, he is creepy. I don't want to get on his (bad) side. *shivers*
The art is once again pretty and there is a lot of details flying around.
All in all, highly recommended and I can't wait until the next volume comes out!
Wow! I've been wishy-washy about this series up to this point and wasn't sure if I was going to continue. However, this volume totally amps up the game! All the members of the team are being focused on, even though Tota is the main character, and their backgrounds are explored a little bit here mostly by telling us in what way each is immortal. My favourite at this point is Ikku. This volume is plot and battle intensive. A new bad guy with a mysterious past connection to Tota is introduced and the whole entire book surrounds his nefarious scheme and the UQ team trying to spot him. A new member of the team is also introduced (look at the cover); she's totally awesome with some very cool powers!
The first few volumes of this story are focused very tightly on Tota, and expands as does his knowledge of his world. I love this way of doing things, as it means the scope continually widens as the story moves along--if it doesn't take too long, I LOVE it as the sheer potential scope of speculative fiction (in whatever form novel, graphic novel, manga, etc.) is one of my favorite elements.
The growth here comes from expanding hints about Tota's own lost past, his grandfather and an undiscovered connection between those first two and UQ Holder. Oh, and lots of cool manga action.
I do super enjoy this series, however, I don't like the fact that there's 10-15 chapters in a book. They are divided poorly and it's starting to really bother me.
The really scary guy is annoying! I mean, our usual crew is fine for beating people up, but /thinking/ their way out of a problem? Luckily they've got help, and extra-weird powers on their side!
Again lot of action in this volume I really like Kirië she's so cute and also her power is so awesome, Tota fights a lot but Kirië is the best character in this volume.
