The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Bengal's Quest ignites the most dangerous instincts known to man, woman, and beast in these Breed novellas, collected in one volume for the first time.

The Breed Next Door
Lyra thinks her new neighbor looks too good to be true. But Tarek Jordan is even more than he seems: a Breed Enforcer on the run. And even though he wants her, Tarek knows Lyra could get burned—unless she embraces the danger that comes with loving a Breed.

In a Wolf’s Embrace
Matthias and Grace are meant to mate—until he commits an act too shocking to ignore. Grace knew that the hot Breed was dangerous, but now, she fears for her own life. Yet she wonders: could it be part of some insidious plan? For there are forces determined to tear them apart and destroy what’s left of the man within.

A Jaguar’s Kiss
Jaguar Breed Saban Broussard has a job to do: guard the first instructor chosen to teach Breed children. But with just one kiss and his touch, the mating phenomena begins that will tie Natalie Ricci to him forever. Unless a shadow from her past gets them both killed.

3 for 1 - well worth it!

I wish I knew prior to purchasing “The Breed Next Door” that it was included in this book, because I wouldn’t have bought it separately. The other two in this book aren’t found anywhere else. Though I will include my review of that book here also since that is one of the books in this anthology.

The Breed Next Door (Breeds, #5.5).

This story is about Tarek Jordan, a Lion Breed who escaped the labs at age 10 because he was the runt of the litter and overheard his trainer saying they were going to put him down. However not long after he escaped, he had a growth spurt and ended up just as large as all the rest of the Lion Breeds.

He is living on his own but helping the main Breed Pride using his hacking skills to get information and find people. He also has been getting to know the little accountant next door named Lyra.
The romance heats up when the trainer he has been researching shows up at Lyra’s house. It is certainly worth reading.

In A Wolf’s Embrace (Breeds, #10.5).

This book was awesome. It is the story of Matthais and Grace. Matthais is an assassin who is tracking down and killing Genetics Council members who are continuing to do their deadly work. He finds out one of the worst that tortured him will be in a certain hotel in a few months, so he begins to romance the assistant manager of the hotel, Grace as his way into the man’s suite.

Grace is supposed to go out of town the day of the hit. However, right as Matthais pulls the trigger, Grace walks in. Matthais has to kidnap her to keep her silent. She feels betrayed and used. Matthais feels that she is his mate.

A Jaguar’s Kiss (Breeds, #11.5).

“A Jaguar’s Kiss” is the story of Saban and Natalie. Natalie is newly divorced from an extremely controlling husband named Mike, who still thinks Natalie is his and will come back to him when she comes to her senses. Though just as she is moving out of the house, she gets a visit from Sanctuary enforcer Saban.

Saban gives Natalie the news that she will be the new public school teacher in the town right outside of Sanctuary where a few of the Breed children will be attending. She jumps at the chance, and she finds out the handsome Jaguar Breed Saban Broussard will be living with her as her bodyguard.

This is another great example of the Breeds books. They are a great mix off wonderful storytelling and highly erotic romance. These breeds guys with their spectacular c*cks and aphrodisiac glands that make their kisses taste like spices and honey are just ruining regular human men for me.

These are my problems with the Breeds, and the reasons I have stopped reading the full-length novels.

--I understand she's trying to convey the intensity of mating heat, but all the words used don't make it sound erotic. There are wombs clenching, nerves pulsing, dicks aching, and there's so much screaming and snarling during sex that it doesn't sound either pleasurable or fun.

--Breed males are dominant and possessive, fine. Breed males behave like jerks, refuse to let their mates do one thing alone, can't let their mates make a single decision without chiming in and/or saying they know what's best, and repeat over and over and OVER "I love you madly and passionately and devotedly, and that is why I can't let you be independent ever again". And this is supposed to be sexy?

--Every Breed story, novel and novella, for years now has been the same. Breed male encounters human woman, knows instantly that she's his mate yet doesn't bring it up, and stalks her for a few weeks until he's wound tight and she (not being an idiot) is aware that something's up. Breed male explains the concept of mating heat in the most unhelpful way, kisses his mate (therefore starting the mating heat process), and they have a fight that ends with the two of them having the above-referenced painfully intense sex. The remainder of the story alternates between lots of sex and the woman trying to have some semblance of a normal life while her hormones are still rioting, she literally can't bear the touch of another male, and her mate is attempting to keep her from doing anything except have sex with him. And, eventually, she accepts this, decides that she loves being the object of someone's passionate, obsessive, and insatiable affection, and lets all plans for independence go.

I think I'm done.

So much potential for ridiculous double entendre when you have a series called "Breed," just wasted in "novellas" that are silly and extremely repetitive. The foreword explains what these "Breeds" are about:

They were created, they weren't born. They were trained, they weren't raised. They were taught to kill, and now they'll use their training to ensure their freedom. They are Breeds. Genetically altered with the DNA of the predators of the earth. The wolf, the lion, the cougar, the Bengal; the killers of the world...Now, they're loose...fighting to hide the one secret that could see them destroyed.

The secret of mating heat. The chemical, biological, the emotional reaction of one Breed to the man or woman meant to be his or hers forever. A reaction that binds physically. A reaction that alters more than just the physical responses or heightens the sensuality. Nature has turned mating heat into the Breeds' Achilles' Heel. It's their strength, and yet their weakness. And Mother Nature isn't finished playing yet.

Man has attempted to mess with her creations. Now she's, going to show man exactly how she can refine them. Killers will become lovers, lawyers, statesmen, and heroes. And through it all, they will cleave to one mate, one heart, and create a dynasty.

Oooookay. That's basically the madlibs-style plot for each story. Throw in an animal (in this case, we have a Lion, a Wolf, and then a Cajun Jaguar rendered like a petulant cartoon pussy cat), add some bare male torso and leather pants, and a Girl next door (who doesn't think she's attractive, of course). Breed stalks Girl and knows from the start she'll be his mate-for-life, something throws Breed + Girl together and Breed shows just how dominant and possessive and protective he'll be. Breed's tongue glands start pumping, Breed CAN'T HELP HIMSELF DAMMIT SHE'S MAKING HIM SHRED EVERY OUNCE OF CONTROL and winds up kinda forcing her, first with that deadly kiss and the flood of hormones that will bind them together for life and spawn some really intense mating sessions. My goodness, that mating heat, all with a little animal science thrown in to keep everyone on their toes. And the rest of the story alternates between the mating, the Girl trying to figure out what the heck to do with her normal life now that she's also a helpless sex slave (but also in love), and the Breed fighting off the odd bad guy so that the mating can continue unabated.

The writing is also pretty uninspired and often awkward. We've got some confusing verbs (I think I counted four uses of the phrase "his lips quirked" - what does this mean?? or "shooting him the gleam of anger burning in her eyes" - what?), some confusing agents ("his pants cinched" - really? the pants did the cinching?), some odd qualifiers (the "flat, hard disc of his male nipple" - as opposed to his female nipple?), all on the carousel of tiresomely repeated phrases (damn! no control! damp panties! the scent of arousal! you've heard the tabloid stories about Breed mating! small glands at the side of my tongue! burning flesh! growl! need! claim! repeat.).

But there is some sidebar character named "Lawe Justice"; that's something, at least.

I loved this book. I loved how Tarek protected Lyra with no hesitation whatsoever. I love how Tarek tells Lyra about them being mates and how Lyra takes it very well. I love how they work through problems and begin to love each other. I love how Matthias and Grace meet and how Matthias is so protective of Grace immediately. I love Grace and how she fights alongside him through everything. I love how she finally gives into Matthias and how they become mates. I love Saban and how he takes an instant liking and protectiveness to Natalie. I love how he instantly is willing to protect her from her ex-husband. I hate how her ex begins to come into their lives and how he tries to ruin their lives. I love how in the end Saban lets him go instead of killing him and how him and Natalie work through their issues and love each other. This was a great book. 10/10 stars.

3 - 3 1/2 stars

Overcome is 3 novellas in the Breeds series. All 3 were quick, easy reads following a very similar pattern. The male breed meets their human female mate, the mating phenomenon begins, there's some form of danger, and then their HEA. Story done. Being a novella, the plot is wrapped up pretty quickly.

3 books put together for the breed series, small books in the series that can definitely be skipped. They are too brief to add much of anything to the story.
My reviews are with each individual book.
🌶️🌶️ for the series overall. I would say jaguar’s kiss is the best of them all.

The Breed Next Door (Breeds #5.5) **** 4

In a Wolf’s Embrace (Breeds #10.5) **** 4

A Jaguar's Kiss by Lora Leigh - ** 2

The Breed Next Door
When the neighbor knocks
A fascinating little tale from the mother of the Breeds. The author has outdone herself with this short, sweet book of Tarek and Lyra. The fun and love they share as they make their way to their HEA is a joy to read about. They may run into a few snags, but family has their back. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
5 stars

In a Wolf’s Embrace
Like the flowers love the sun
An interrupted randevu almost ruins everything, but with a little maneuvering and groveling these two characters get back on track. I love her joy in every aspect of life, and her need to take the sadness out of his eyes. And he’s a typical strong, silent breed, who is only afraid of one thing, and he has to face that fear before he can make it to his HEA. Thank goodness for friends in high places and a family who will always have his back. This book made me smile and cry for so many reasons, and I just know it will find its way back to my ereader again.
5 stars

A Jaguar’s Kiss
Doing it for you
This one is always a hard one for me because they almost don’t have their HEA. Male pride and feminine independence run rampant with these two. Especially when a blast from the past can’t just let it go. It was a pretty close call, but the author didn’t do us wrong. The characters are hotter than ever, and the story is one to get lost in. A winning combination if ever I’ve seen.

The Breeds series by Lora Leigh is a great concept - problem is - the author never really developed it further than - hot dominant alpha Breed Male, meets woman - mating ensues - a bad guy is defeated - the end.
These books tend to be a little repetitive and the h & H's are interchangeable and just blur together. I don't have a particular favourite because none stand out in my memory.
Good - but never great.

Since there were 3 stories, my review will be split into 3 parts.

Starting off with The Breed Next Door, this one was cute. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the chemistry between Tarek and Lyra. 10/10 great mini story.

Wolf's Embrace. Not the worst I've read on the breeds but I've also read better. Grace to me is your stereotypical FL with 2 braincells when it comes to men and red flags. Matthias's dark past aside, this man is weird. Really weird. I did not enjoy his character. And Grace's parents who go along with her dating someone like him (not looking at his past when I say this), I see where she gets her smarts. Apples really don't fall far from the tree.

Lastly, A Jaguar's Kiss. This one was a disappointment for me. Since discovering the breeds series and reading the books, this was one I had been wanting to read. And after finally reading the story, I can whole heartedly say that I should of spent my time wanting to read something else. This was not enjoyable at all. I did not like Saban at all. His character was controlling, dare I say worse than some of the other breeds, and she was sassy and feisty until he made her submit.

3.00 Stars. An audiobook with narration by Lily Bask. This book is a collection of three earlier works that were part of anthologies featuring other writers. The first story, THE BREED NEXT DOOR, is the story of Tarek Jordan, a Lion Breed Enforcer and his ex door neighbor, blond haired, blue-eyed White human and eventual breed mate, Lyra Mason. The second story, IN A WOLD'S EMBRACE, is the story of Matthias Slaughter, a Wolf Breed Enforcer and Grace Anderson, a grey-eyed, blonde, creamy flush White female and Genetics Council employee who witnesses Matthias kill a senior Genetics Council employee. Matthias and Grace realize that they are a mates during their hiatus in the caves of Matthias' old home. The final story, A JAGUAR'S KISS, records the mating of Saban Broussard, a green-eyed Cajun Breed Enforcer and his mate, Natalie Ricci Claxton, a brown-eyed dark haired White human divorcee and teacher.

My criticism here is 'Stupid Person Syndrome'. It's a common plot device that I can't stand. It's a collection of three books, so break down...

1) The Breed Next Door
I like this one enough that it may make the book worthwhile. He's a little clueless. She's bossy. They're both irritating but in a cute, wow, they deserve each other way.

2) In a Wolf's Embrace
Didn't finish. She's incredibly naive, self-righteous and, yeah, stupid.

3) A Jaguar's Kiss
Started well. Thought this one would be good. But then, you know, the stupid.

I am just rating "A Wolf's Embrace" right now.

The first 1/3 of the book-H is very naive and judgmental. Yes, she hasn't read the books as we have, but the Breeds and the ongoing violence have been big news, yet she is "we should call the authorities", and "he didn't deserve to be murdered". Does she change her mind due to learning of previous atrocities? No, it's basically because of the mating heat.

Second 1/3 of the book-SEX.

Third 1/3 of the book-Good story. Action, in the form of coyotes and H's old trainer finding them. Emotions-I really liked when he met her family at the hospital.

If the whole story would have been as good as the last third, it would have gotten at least four stars.

I really enjoyed this collection of Breed novellas. My favorite story, by far, was "The Breed Next Door" though. I found Tarek, the male lead, to be charming in his ignorance of normal human behavior. "The Breed Next Door" was also relatively low in angst which is the perfect amount for me in a novella. The other two stories were good but they did have quite a bit of fighting between the main characters as they came to terms with their new mating. After a little while, I did feel like the fighting across the two stories became repetitive but that could just be me. (I readily admit I'm not a great fan of angst.) I definitely think these additional novellas are worth reading if you enjoy the Breed series.

Only Lora Leigh can take the c-word and make it...not offensive. Heat on a scale of 1 to 10, this book is 11 or 12. I stumbled into the Breeds by accident and am now hooked. I'd say that it'd be nice to have a bit more story and a bit less sex, but then the three stories in this one book are all short so there's really not much room for a whole lot of story. However, there's enough to keep me satisfied. Excellently written.

The Breed Next Door -
Lyra's outrage at the destruction of her prized roses is just the first step in her passion for Tarik.

In A Wolf's Embrace -
Matthias may have started out using Grace for her access to the man he hates most, but his heart knew better than to let her go.

A Jaguar’s Kiss -
Natalie's no nonsense manner baffles Sabahn's more protective side, especially when she wants to fulfil her dream of teaching for Sanctuary.

Nice collection - in each story it amazes me that it took some extreme awful act of tragedy to get the women on board with what it means to be involved with a Breed male. I get why it is a secret but instead of listening to their internal feelings they want to govern the brain. At any rate amusement was had and passionate intimate scenes prevailed!

This has three different Breed stories from the Lora Leigh series. Each different breeds who were able to meet and keep their human mate. Each a different breed has his own unique way to get their mate on board to their own possessive ways. Each has their own obstacles to over come. I have read many of the breed series and enjoyed each one. This is a collection of three.

The plot was a bit rushed or thin as they were novellas. I am used to better from Lora Leigh. The way they add to the Breed series though is nice - the details are good for the bones of the whole story arc. All in all, I liked the plot line.

Three short stories in one book can’t be beaten. All three were well written and easy to read. The sex scenes were excellent and the heroes had just enough conflict to make it believable and interesting. Recommend this author highly.

Really enjoyed the first two stores. The last story about half way through I was ready to throw the book out the window. I don't know why woman continue to think they can handle a man that has been abusive. Men don't get over being bullies.
