When Pittsburgh Dad debuted on YouTube, creators Chris Preksta and Curt Wootton little suspected their sitcom would receive more than sixteen million views and turn their blue-collar everyman into a nationally known figure. Illustrated with hilarious black-and-white photos, Pittsburgh Dad shares the best of the best, from rants about swimming pool rules to reflections on coaching little league to curmudgeonly movie reviews. With its heavy dose of nostalgia and pitch-perfect sensibility, Pittsburgh Dad will have readers laughing in recognition, especially those who love recent blockbusters like Sh*t My Dad Says and Dad Is Fat .
"Pittsburgh Dad: Everything Your Dad Has Said To You" by Chris Preksta and Curt Wootton takes the popular web series and gives you more quotes to both learn and remember. You will hear your own father speaking.
One of the writers went to my high school but I am pretty sure we never met. If you are a diehard Steeler fan, the only plus side to a loss is hearing his take on it. I watched the Jesse James one dozens of times.
There are plenty of episodes online and the book rewards those who missed a few. The ones about the electric bill and tracking up the house reminded me of my youth, only a half-hour east of the city.
I have people "dahn ear" that do not even know what a Pittsburgh accent is. The book helps but the videos really drive that point home. Anyone over the age of 50 talks like that and it doesn't go away.
I read this cover-to-cover after my eldest bought it for me and everyone went to sleep and the kids explored their gifts. I highly recommend it as a coffee table book and remain confident that you will have a favorite quote by the end.
Absolutely hysterical. Written in a one-liner style regarding various topics, with many lines recognized from the YouTube channel under the same name. Granted, these are even more hilarious given with the Pittsburghese accent Wootton is so well known for.
A very quick read, probably better for those either familiar with the general area, the channel, and the like.
I really enjoyed reading this short book with quotes from the Pittsburgh Dad videos. They are repeats from the videos but they are presented in a trimmed down organized fashion that I thought was great.
I enjoy the YouTube videos so I decided to read the book too. This is a collection of some of the YouTube jokes. I could hear his voice as I read them. Sometimes I laughed out loud. Too many curse words to be enjoyable for everyone.
Review title: Dad on paper Pittsburgh Dad is a YouTube treat for those who grew up in western PA drinking pop and redding up their rooms. Curt Wooton, the actor who brings PD to life, and Chris Preksta, who writes dialogue and films the lowbudget shorts, have given us a pitch perfect rendition of what our real relatives sound like. In fact the satire is so sharp that some of my closest relatives don't get the humor.
Well, now they have written the book on Dad, which is literally some of the best lines from the videos in a slim paperback volume. Some of the malapropisms translate to print perfectly (especially the mangled movie titles like The Hungry Games and Mike the Magician) but the dead serious sincerity of the delivery, accent, and inflection just can't be replicated.
So the book is OK for quick pickup-and-read occasions like the unexpected trip to the bathroom when the cell phone is still charging, but otherwise not a substitute for the real thing. Youtube it.
This book sends me back to my days growing up in western PA. So many things that I heard from my own parent and others. My wife insists Pittsburgh Dad is a cross between my dad and a friend of mine, accent and mannerisms. While you read this the hilarity is only increased if you have Chris's voice in your head reading the book too. On more than one occasion while reading I burst into laugher. Yinz keep up the great work.
Wonderful considering I am from Western Pennsylvania! Plenty of laugh out loud moments. I am interested how the humor translates to people not originally from the area, so if a non-PA native reads this I would love some feedback on thoughts. Worth buying to share the joy with others.
If you like the Pittsburgh Dad series, you'll like this. I read the entire thing in his voice and couldn't stop laughing. It just a series of quotes, not any kind of coherent story, so it's good for a laugh but not a serious read.
Pittsburgh Dad is the best!! Loved the intro. I didn't realize it was a list of jokes from the show, thoug. Would like to see more behind-the-scenes narrative next time!
