How did I forget that his book has a plague element in it? It's been so long since I've read Legend and this was a pretty nice refresher! I do prefer the book itself over this graphic novel, because at times it felt like things were quickly brushed over and the story moved way too fast to be able to really feel any of the emotions of what the characters are going through. I think if you've read the book and are a big fan of Legend this is a pretty enjoyable adaptation!

I’ve made some terrible decisions in my life, but I haven’t made one THIS bad in a while :’)

description

I mean, I was barely 20 pages in and I was already tearing up BC DAMMIT MARIE LU CAN YOU NOT BE A MONSTER FOR 25 SECONDS SHEESH

Anyways, I just want everyone to know that I love my husband Day Altan Wing with all my heart and I would die for him. That’s all.

Also the graphics are 11/10 (tho, the characters are supposed to be Asian and they don’t look Asian, what the hell is that about???!!)

I would only recommend this to people who've already read the book(s). Because if I didn't already have all those feels about Day and June, I don't think I would have liked it that much. Yes, it is quite rushed but obviously that's normal. The graphics are awesome and it absolutely lived up to my imagination (I just imagined Metias hotter :p). All the feels I had when I read the book came back to me and now I definitely want to reread it!
I hope there will be a GN of the two other books too because I absolutely want to read those too!!

I was a huge fan of the Legend trilogy. So, when I saw this at the library I had to pick it up. I usually don't read that many book to graphic novel adaptations but the cover art looked promising. I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by it's cover but I think judging a graphic novel by it's cover is acceptable.

This graphic novel was very similar to the book, which I really appreciated. They hit all of the major plot points of the book and even added a couple details that added to the plot. There were quotes in the graphic novel that came straight from the book. The appearance of the characters were spot on. All of these small details just added up and made the reading experience 10x better.

The art style wasn't my favorite, it was nice and simple which made the story easy to follow, but it was very stereotypical "manga". Granted, that art style is amazing but I don't think it really fit the story it was portraying. The color scheme was very simple and dull, they used lots of greens and browns. This did however compliment the art style and the story.

The story was fast paced and easy to follow, even when the fight scenes got a little dicey. There were a couple scenes that were rushed, that could have been drawn out better. But, overall I really enjoyed experiencing the book again. If you want a re-fresher of Legend this graphic novel is very loyal to the book and was very enjoyable.

The characters looked awesome but it was way too short. They left out so much and the stuff that made it in it was rushed and totally out of pace. Sad me.

I looooooved this. But I have one question, why isn’t June’s hair black?? Same with her brother, their hair is supposed to be black and their eyes are supposed to be almost black with gold specks but here they have brown eyes and hair.

Also wished this books was longer, don’t get me wrong it was amazing but it ended too quickly...

And Ollie is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen

OVERVIEW
If you've already read and loved Legend, definitely pick up a copy of the graphic novel! It'll be enough to bring back your feels and memories. If not, skip it. There isn't enough details for you to get a complete Legend experience.

No, seriously. I'm a HUGE fan of Legend, and I legitimately got the feels before Day and June even met. I can't help being a fangirl, okay? It's in my system.

ART AND COLOR
The art felt a lot like manga for me, which of course won me over. The artwork wasn't detail-heavy, and there were a few awkward-looking parts, but it was smooth and clean. Also, I don't like my guys with long hair, but the artist managed to make Day look like a lovely anime character, so bonus points for that! And June is gorgeous. That hair. #goals.

The coloring's pretty simple. There are a few parts where it's bit light, as if there was this sort of slight fog over everything, but for the most part, it's just normal coloring.

DETAILS
Like I said earlier, you won't understand the story too much if you haven't read the actual novel yet. There's enough details and dialogue to get the gist of things, but there will be important details you're going to miss. The story's still the same, no changes, but really just lacks some parts.

PACING
The pacing is horrid, mostly because of the lack of details. This is a general downside of graphic novels, so it didn't really bother me too much. It made the romance extremely rushed, and there were many scenes that just popped out of nowhere and had no foreshadowing. Just a fair warning to anyone who plans to read this but hasn't read the actual book yet.

This ended up being really good! I liked the dystopian world and characters. The pace was good and the art was fantastic. At first I wasn't sure where the story was going but I loved where it went. Lots of different emotions with this one. would recommend this to people who enjoy world building and dystopian fiction.

4.25 out of 5 stars.

I've had the best time reading this book graphic novel!!!

I was planning on reading this book for a while, but because I didn't have intentions on reading the novels but rather read the graphic novels that made me worry if that was going to be a good idea. So, I made a poll last year if it would be okay to skip the novels and immediately move on to the graphic novels and the answers were yes, which was very relieving to know.

One of the main genre of this book is dystopian, which makes sense since most of YA books from 2010's especially the early ones had that. I don't consider myself being a fan of the dystopian genre, I enjoyed very few books of that genre, but it really surprised me how much I enjoyed the story as an overall, it also reminded me so much of 'The Lunar Chronicles'.

All in all, I really liked 'Legend'.

I'd forgotten about the existence of this book until accidentally chancing upon it at a bookstore the other day. Naturally, I had to purchase it instantly in my haste, and proceeded to start reading it straight away– only to be sorely disappointed.

Perhaps the fault lies in my unrealistic expectations; perhaps all visualizations of books are usually played out like this. Naturally, fitting in 300 pages worth of writing into 160 worth of visuals is an impossible task– but for me, this graphic novel failed to do the characters any justice or create any real sense of connection between them as it races to get to the end of the story. It's a decent middle school "action-adventure" comic at best, but a terrible graphical representation for the book in my opinion.

Only redeeming quality that helped it gain its extra star is the artwork alone, one of the primary components that encouraged me to pick this up in the first place.

(Also, I'd like to award this book for being the quickest read of my life with how remarkably short it is. I'd suggest anyone to just take a nice 30 minutes out of their time at the bookstore and finish this in one sitting rather than spend needless money over it.)

So cool to have a graphic novel of Legend! Definitely don't read it until you've read Legend because it won't make sense. Due to its drastically shorter length than the original book, it obviously removed a lot of details - some which I didn't mind and other that I did. I docked a star for that and also that it felt a bit choppy at times. Definitely makes me want to pick up the trilogy for a reread though! I hope they continue and make graphics novels for the other two books as well!

I didn't realize I already read this... Review below!!!
-----------------------------------------------
This was one of the best book to graphic novel adaptations I have ever read.

It's essentially Legend with pictures, which made it a little confusing to understand some things because Marie Lu's descriptions make the story feel real. With the bulk of the descriptions gone, though, it was very hard to understand, and if the reader has never read the actual book, then they are going to feel VERY lost.

But I also wish it was longer. It felt like a lot of content was cut because it needed to fit into a 160 page format, damn you publishers. I really hope that the rest of the series is allowed more room because they definitely have a lot more meat to the story that absolutely NEEDS to be in it. Because without it, the Legend Trilogy wouldn't be the trilogy I learned to love so much. PLEASE UNIVERSE MAKE THE NEXT TWO LONGER!!!

The art was beautiful though, stunning to say the very least, and really was suited for a story that is heavy in politics and romance. To say the very least the story and art fit together nicely it is like one of those soul mate relationships that everyone wants. I was even a little jealous myself :P

Overall, it was a nice little graphic novel that I picked up (and I'm glad I did because I got to see Day! *drools a little*), and I am looking forward to picking up the rest.

3 out of 5 stars (Please read my rating system further below). Thank you so much to Penguin Teen for sending me this! It had been 3 years since I finished the conclusion to the amazing trilogy by Marie Lu, so it was great to have a refresher. I zipped through this in less than 30 minutes and found myself feeling exactly the way I did 3 years ago after finishing. The graphic novel is very similar to the real novel. However, there are some plot holes since the graphic novel is marginally shorter. Everything is going by so fast. Events from left and right. There really is no character development, which is something that is a really big deciding factor for if I like a book or not. It was really great that the characters were already developed for me since I had read the trilogy before. However, I would recommend reading the trilogy first before picking up the graphic novels.

My rating system: (I do use half stars.)
5 - I do not use the 5 star. Not because a book might not be worthy, but because a book is never perfect.
4 - I loved it! There weren't too many flaws, and I had no trouble getting through it. (A 4 star rating is the highest rating I've ever given a book.)
3 - I enjoyed the book, but there we're flaws that made me enjoy it less.
2 - I finished the book, but there were too many flaws for me to enjoy it.
1 - I could not finish the book, and I probably did not finish it....

“Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.”

I found this graphic novel at a used bookstore recently and I’m so glad I bought it. It was a pretty great adaptation of Legend and it brought back a ton of memories I had of this series. Some stuff was definitely a bit rushed to get the story condensed into a short graphic novel, but there was still so much of the original story intact that it left me wanting to reread the novels just to relive all the nostalgia again. I’m hoping to pick up the second graphic novel soon!

This was a fun way to refresh myself on the story! I read the Legend series years ago and wanted to recall some of the details before diving into Rebel. The graphic novel is a great, brief adaptation of the story. I do think you get a lot more from the novels, but I enjoyed this as a way of re-reading the story so to speak.

2 The future is really white STARS

description

Okay, so, this was a super quick read, but it was still amazing! For the life of me I couldn't picture June (I kept thinking, how can a ponytail be elegant?), but this really helped. Now I see her! Anywho, it made me so happy to see Day and June kiss, just a cute fan girl squee moment.

I enjoyed it but felt that it was fast-paced to the point I was questioning the timeline a bit. There were markers to indicate the passage of time but the transitions sometimes felt jarring. It's all certainly awful- especially with the pandemic plot line-- but I didn't feel like I was able to connect with the characters till the mid-point. I have read the books, even though it was years ago, so I'm aware there's a bit of bias there.

I loved the art!

GAGO ANG SAKIT PA RIN!

Anyway, cool art but I do think this graphic novel didn't depict Legend perfectly or at least convincingly.

The connection is not there between the main characters. It helped that I loved the novel so remembering what I've read (and loved) while reading this graphic novel was enough.

Ok what was up with this? The only thing I liked was the art style, and it still didn’t do day any justice. I felt like it missed out on so many of the elaborate plot points that made the original good. Just lacked any depth.
1/5⭐️, way worse than the original.

-Disclaimer: I won this book for free through goodreads giveaways in exchange for an honest review.-

I really, really enjoyed this graphic novel! I am probably one of the few who preferred this to the actual original book. I gave the original Legend book three stars. I liked Legend but not enough to continue the series. Due to it being a little fast-paced for my taste. I had a hard time keeping up with what was going on and that made me very frustrated and want to stop reading the book. Just when I started to understand what was going on the book would switch point of view. It was quite a change for me to read a novel with pictures, but a good change at that!

This graphic novel was easy, quick, and a fun read. It didn't linger on scenes too long and I felt had the perfect amount of pages. The illustrator did a great job with the pictures. They were exactly how I pictured it when reading the original novel. Of course it is hard to relate to characters in graphic novels. The novel was missing that emotional part of the journey.

It probably would have been helpful if I had read this book first and then the chapter book. Then I would have felt as if I had read a long list of spoilers. This book was kind of an outline with pictures to get you ready for the chapter book. I highly recommended this action-packed graphic novel to everyone!
