Stop saying "If only…" and get yourself on track to health, happiness and that youthful glow you thought you lost forever. Jackie Warner—New York Times bestselling author and personal trainer to the stars—has the answer to the energy crisis in your life, and it's not in the next cup of coffee you're reaching for. It's getting rid of your energy-sapping lifestyle.
This Is Why You're Sick and Tired goes to the root of your energy problem to give you the tools you need to rehabilitate your body on the cellular level to target the cells and hormones critical to energy, vitality and weight loss.
Each week of this 3-phase plan will offer a new diet and exercise program that alters chemistry in stages, working with your brain and body to balance and release a new set of chemicals and patterns. The diet has been carefully coupled with a progressive style of training that adapts and changes each week along with your foods and your body chemistry. Once you have completed the reset, you will be fully prepared to live a whole new lifestyle—one that is energetic and positive!
With Jackie's core principles, you will restore and recharge your body, renew your vitality, and stop feeling moody and stressed out. You'll sleep better. And you'll drop weight fast and look better than you ever have before.
Jackie Warner sets the gold standard for diet and exercise books with This is Why You're Sick and Tired. She starts out with the science of nutrition, exercise, and rest then goes into custom diet and weekly exercise suggestions. It's easy to see why she's so sought after by Hollywood stars — this lady knows her stuff.
I first saw Jackie in action on her, now ended, Bravo show, Work Out. At the time, I had just had a baby and was awake at all hours of the night doing the infant-feeding dance. Work Out was a nice escape from the spit up, exhaustion-filled reality that I was living at the time. Jackie looked pretty serious about her business, but Work Out mainly focused on the drama between Jackie, her trainers, and the folks who came to her for help. It's nice to see that she actually knows what she's doing as a trainer and she's not just another reality show poser.
The exercises that Jackie suggests are intense. They can be executed with hand weights, but by the fourth set, I'm so wobbly that it's comical. We'll see if I ever reach the heights of fitness put forth in This is Why You're Sick and Tired. At this point, I'd be happy to finish her workout strong rather than falling apart in the last few reps.
Recently, I saw on Jackie's Facebook page that she intends to lose 30 pounds in the coming weeks. She has shared that her fitness and nutrition has spun a bit off the rails in the last year. But, using what she knows about the body, Jackie intends to get herself back on track and fast.
I think it was brave of her to share that struggle in such a public manner. She's as human as the rest of us and I think I like her even more since she's admitted that. Here's hoping Jackie accomplishes everything she sets out to do.
And you do too, dear readers. I'm not big into New Year's resolutions, but this book may be a help to you if you're looking to jump start your fitness and diet plans in the new year.
If you enjoy This is Why You're Sick and Tired, I also suggest reading Reboot with Joe: Fully Charged: 7 Keys to Losing Weight, Staying Healthy and Thriving by Joe Cross (instructions on how to add juicing to your daily diet) and Down Size: 12 Truths for Turning Pants-Splitting Frustration into Pants-Fitting Success by Ted Spiker (to keep you laughing through any ups and downs of your new diet and exercise routine).

I must say that so far this is the best exercise and self improvement book I have ever read from any fitness instructor. Jackie Warner gives a very detailed and informative lessons on your body chemistry breaking down in layman's terms how our cells work, what and how they become damaged and what we can do to heal our bodies from the inside. We CAN heal our bodies internally the same way our external wounds are healed with medication and time. Instead of medication we consume healthy, organic and fresh foods that transform our bodies helping us lose weight, regain energy and improve sleep. Part one and two of the book cover the theory and offer detailed information on our body chemistry. Then part three goes in depth about the list of foods we need to regain health, in the process lowering cholesterol, losing weight, becoming more energized thanks to all the exercises she teaches. Each exercise is depicted and described and all you require are dumbbells, sneakers and fitness clothing. Jackie's book PROVES beyond the shadow of doubt that you don't need expensive gym memberships or personal trainers to get you in shape. You can accomplish your weight loss goals by following this book EXACTLY and it is easy to understand. Honestly the only expensive item would be organic food but investing in your body will pay out immense dividends so I think it is worth it to buy organic! Jackie offers delicious recipes for smoothies (Aloha, mango and strawberry,) lunch (Greek and Guacamole wrap, avocado sandwich) and dinner (Black bean topped sweet potatoes or the Portabella burger with grilled asparagus). If you truly want to detox your body, become lean, boost your energy, improve your sleep and look/feel better then follow this book and you will achieve it! Highly recommended!!!
Just another book with the usual info (exercise, eat well, take supplements) but with the author's specific preferences. Nothing new or extraordinary is presented.
Similar to This is Why You're Fat, this book looks at the "stuff" we are putting into our bodies, while expecting them to provide peak performance. It provides a three week plan to get us back on track. Jackie offers a balanced eating and exercise plan that anyone can do.
Warner tells you straight with not chaser. She offers well researched material with clear steps to take for diet and exercise. Great book to jump start your lifestyle change.
Based on the audiobook. Quick, palatable bits of advice on eating and fitness. It’s been a long time since I watched Jackie’s show or read her other titles, but her words are still effective in inspiring me towards being and feeling better. I’d much rather have read this, since listening to a list of ingredients on a day-to-day basis is very tedious.
Great read! Very science-based. Jackie Warner does a thorough job describing how the body works, breaking it down to the cellular level. I love the information about sound nutrition, simple recipes, and reasonable workout program. Bravo, Jackie Warner! I wish Jackie was back on tv helping people.
This book gives you a lot of things to think about. On the whole it was a great encouragement to re-think how you eat. And with a 3-week plan it seemed highly do-able...except not outside the U.S.. Most of the suggested foods I cannot get where I live (such as, pine nuts, decaf green tea, hummus, almond butter, almond milk, grapefruit, cherries,...) Nuts are a big part of this diet. The only nuts that I can get inexpensively where I live are Brazil nuts and peanuts. The rest are fairly expensive. But I have come away with a long list of the variety of foods I should be eating and will definitely find ones that are available.
She suggests that you try to do all the different recipes included in a separate pdf. There are 21, breakfast smoothies, snacks, lunches and dinners. Since the idea is that you are eating lots of different kinds of plant protein and nutrients she suggests that you try something different everyday. That is highly impractical purchasing so many different kinds of foods during a three week period.
There was a LOT of information about all of our health problems, too much. Also their was a lot of explanation on our cells and how we have to take care of them. It seemed like a lot of information there as well.
Her evolution references were puzzling. How someone can talk about the complex needs of our cells and believe in evolution is beyond me.
Are you not yet aware/ completely mortified at how the FDA is allowing food companies to poison us while also torturing animals and ruining our environment? Do you want guidance for avoiding the worst of these toxins (all would be completely impossible) and becoming a healthier version of yourself? Read this.
And even if you take nothing else away from this book-
"I am asking you to give up one thing: water bottles."
I've been using her DVDs for a few years now, and just love how motivating she is. I have to say, this book was much more informative and well researched than I expected. Pleasantly surprised! I'll definitely be incorporating some of these lessons into my existing health routine.
This is dangerous. How, in all good conscience can the author instruct thyroid patients to give us medication in favor of a diet?????? I already follow a similar diet. Without daily synthroid, I would be dead.
A tad too over the top, but the information was pretty good. Sometimes you just need to hear things bluntly. Entertaining read if you’ve watched the writers show; yo can pop her personality into it.
