Hercules, a demigod who is reliant on forbidden godly pills to access his full strength, uses the last of them to save Megara from Hades’s wrath. Now, his city is defenseless against a surge of demonic creatures. If his worshipers die, he’ll lose his godly status and descend into a deadly madness. And now Megara knows his secret.
To save his city and himself, Hercules must journey to the treacherous island of Crete to obtain more pills with Megara, who harbors a secret hatred for him. Around her waist is his stolen life ribbon from the Underworld. He must earn her trust and worship before she masters how to wield the ribbon to destroy him. The city is vulnerable. Megara is lethal. And madness awaits.
Nicolette is a Bay Area author of alluring romances that span from dark contemporary to the depths of the apocalypse. Outside of the all-consuming obsession to write, she is in love with being a full-service editor. She taught the fourth grade for five years, and is now a part-time substitute. During downtime, she enjoys knitting and crocheting while watching video game playthroughs with her hubby and fur baby.
Let me tell you, this was one of my most anticipated books of the year… and it did not disappoint. Nicolette crafted the perfect story that modeled mythology and imagination. Her spin on Hercules was enthralling, and I couldn’t put it down. Literally finished it in 2 days. If you want something that screams sexy and takes you Into a world you want to escape in, then this is the book for you! Warning: it will end too soon because you will read it so fast, and you will want so much more of them.
Nicolette shows off her diverse writing in this Greek retelling of Hercules and Megara! Spicy, witty and adventurous. Nicolette has reminded me of my love for the Disney one and given me new love for this story!
I loved this book so much. It was perfect to start the year. It was the first time I read something from Nicolette and she did not disappoint. This retelling of Hercules myth is full of sassy Megara, self-discovery, empathy, and love for humanity and capability. It ends too fast, but I can't wait for Underworld to come out.
Adored Hercules and Meg's story ❤️ Meg being a little h*ll-raising human and creating chaos (quite like me 🤣) while Hercules tries to keep her safe. They learn a lot about each other as well as from each other. When one has lost faith, the other helps them believe again. Their love story is one I want to read over and over again. Another great story from Nicolette as always ❤️
This is a wonderful retelling of Hercules and Megara with a bit of spice, and a few hints at the next book in The Ungodly Series: Underworld. I absolutely loved the twists and new life given to the classic tale. I'm a sucker for reimagined/retellings/revamped tales, and this one is no exception. Writing felt realistic, which made being in the mindset of each character easy. Each chapter fell into each other with wonderful transitions, that made me not want to put the book down. 5/5⭐️ Definitely recommend this one, and I will be adding Underworld to my TBR. Will definitely check out more works by this author.
My rating system is very much vibes based. Did I enjoy the book? Did I think about the book while I wasn't reading it? Did I look forward to picking it up again? Did finishing the book feel like a chore?
If those criteria are met, it is gold for me. I very much enjoyed this book. It was super fast-paced. I would have liked to slow it down a bit to connect more with the characters and see a little more development with the FMC (she drove me nuts) and more world building, but we're in the middle of saving a city! No time for rest!
All that being said, I look forward to reading the next book and other works from this author.
I loved this book. It was such a fun sassy, flirty, broody, spicy Herd and Megora story. Megera is captured perfectly. And Tolly, I loved her whole personality. The magic system felt fresh but easy to understand.
One if my FAVORITE quotes (an insult is said and it strikes a cord of an insecurity) "It etches a permanent texture along the surface of my subconscious thoughts" Literally just stab me next time. I'm going to have a whole therapy session about this quote.
This is a retelling of the classic Hercules myth. The novel explores themes of self-discovery and empowerment, offering readers a fresh perspective on familiar characters. Overall Hercules is a struggling demi-god, Megara is hell bent on fighting past wrongs. What could go wrong when these two characters meet on the road to self discovery? The novel does have a slower start; considering this is a shorter length novel but the overall tale is powerful and commanding; it's worth pushing through to the end.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. This book has everything. A great plot, great chemistry between the main characters, character arc, romance, action, the unexpected twists. I love when a book throws you right into chaos and is fast-paced. This book was perfection! I also wish I could have read it with no interruptions! I'm partially glad that I was so busy with work and my daughter that it took me so long to read this.. because otherwise I would have finished it in 2 days and then felt like it was over too soon. Seriously, SO GOOD.
I love books about gods. But this book by an amazing writer (who I’m new to reading) but whom I enjoyed reading a lot was surprising. I love the lore behind the book, the way the book kept me guessing. I loved all the details behind the characters, the gods, Demi gods, mortals and creatures. I love the way this author spins a tale that you can clearly see in your minds eye. Can’t wait for the next one.
This book was an absolute page turner. I loved it and read it fast as possible. I loved getting a romantasy book from a male narrator it was a nice change. Also switching between narrators really gave the full perspective. Can’t wait to delve more into to her book and I am so glad I stumbled on her on booktok!
3.5-4 ⭐️ Easy, quick read. I enjoyed this Hercules x Megara retelling, though sometimes I felt like I wasn’t fully drawn into the story. I think I prefer a bit more character/world building at the beginning, so I don’t feel lost. Overall, this was my first book by this author and looking forward to trying out more!
I thought this book was a very good fairytale retelling. I really enjoyed it! It did catch me off guard though about the ending. I didn’t realize that this would be a multiple book serious and not a stand Alone. Other than that, I thought it was great!!
Fantastic! Such a fun and unique spin on Hercules and Megara and she opens up to a whole world to explore in this series. I love how she develops her characters and has you never wanting to put the book down!
Wow I cannot emphasize how addicting this book is. So many surprises that kept me going back for more. But most of all, I love the love story. It felt so real. I can’t wait for book two. I really can’t. Please write it!
Brilliant story! The characters feel so real; fun, endearing, and full of heart. The writing and pacing are spot on, and the world completely draws you in. “My favourite human” had me squee-ing! I definitely need more Theseus and Hades and I cannot wait for the sequel! Thoroughly enjoyed every minute!
I wanted to show my support for this book as even now months later it still lives rent free in my head. So if you are looking for a book that is fun, exciting, and will make you think about being in that world months after reading. This is that book.
Like many others, I am patiently waiting for a book two.
