It was supposed to be a one night stand, a good luck nut before a job interview. Turns out my luck ran out. The nameless man who blew my mind is none other than my new boss.
Eric
Deciding to hire a previous hook-up is not the most professional decision I have ever made. Then again, neither is continuing to hook up with him.
Joric is the story of two commitment-dodging guys who fail to realise their situationship is more of a relationship than either of them are ready for. When they happen upon a teen in trouble, their bond solidifies, and they are left with the decision to give this relationship thing a chance or go back to safe single life.
There's a 'Six Months Later' time jump immediately after the first night these two spend together after discovering one's the other's new boss.
And then they both have feelings. How is it a romance if I'm cut out from the bits where they're getting to know each other and falling for each other?
The last time we saw them, they were mutually excited to be in the 'holy grail of situationships'. How did we get here?
How is it a workplace romance if we don't even get to see them navigate this AT the office?
How does the executive assistant KNOW they're in love before they do?
But there's lot of details for the sex bits.
Honestly it felt like I was just eavesdropping on the romance of it all rather than reading about it.
Massively regret getting the ARC because I have nothing good to say about this one and I wish I'd said it later on in it's life cycle.
My fucking god. I hate the MM community. Y’all are fucking children. Nothing but a bunch of silly little Mean Girls, acting like you get gold stars for reading a book and writing a review.
You don’t. The internet is the fucking internet. Grow the fuck up. You are not special, you are not important, and you’re for sure not being taken seriously. Maybe you take yourself seriously, but that seems like something to chat with your therapist about. They get paid to listen to you grandstand, we don’t.
Did the book have issues? Yeah, it did. There was some inconsistency here and there and a few places I would’ve liked some extra paragraphs, and while I seem to be the only one that notices, it bothers me enough that I point it out. Was it a lot of important details? Ehh, maybe once or twice, but mostly it was inconsequential shit that didn’t make a difference. My brain just doesn’t like it.
So, like, it fits in with 99.9% of self-published books out there. This is not new business, it’s a very old and well-worn business. The business of being fucking broke and doing the best with what you’ve got. There’s no house behind these folx with an army of editors for every single stage, no marketing team, no advance. Calm the fuck down. It’s not as deep as you’re trying to make it.
As for the story? I enjoyed the hell out of it. There was no wasted space. There was no pointless filler. It was painfully and beautifully real and moved at a pace I appreciated. Sometimes the language was a little formal, but I have met folx who take their multiple degrees and years in higher education settings and run with them. It changes how you present yourself, that’s for sure.
You know, like being a fucking adult usually does? Not everyone is informal when they open their mouths, and what we think isn’t always what we say with our voices because we want to sound as intelligent as we are. Ask my southern accent how I know.
Not me, though. I say ‘ain’t’ and curse like a fucking sailor. I’m trailer trash, don’t expect high brow shit from me, even with my fancy education and fancy pants on when they need to be.
ANYWAY.
The realistic vibe was heavy. This wasn’t a flowers-and-hearts Hallmark-esque situation. It was a love story between two people that started in a club with a really hot rim/blow job sesh, which, hey(?!), I don’t know if you have a real gay/queer friend, but that’s pretty fucking typical. Like, most of my favourite people started out the same way with their partners. Shit, I basically met my husband by accident when he picked up someone else’s phone and cussed me out for “interrupting his exp grind” he took leave to partake in.
I was adamant I would never willingly choose a male partner again, too, and spent a long time holding both arms out and screaming about personal bubbles and feelings being a non-starter. Guess what? That didn’t work. It’s been almost two decades of him annoying me.
Unconventional starts where you throw up barricades that rival the Great Wall are just not the unbelievable sitch y’all think they are.
That’s a you problem, so quit making you problems everybody else’s problems. You’re basically mimicking a virus. And for what? Clout? Sit down, be humble. Especially when you know exactly why the fuck you’re acting like brats, and it has nothing to do with the contents of this fucking book.
And I’m not a twenty-something. I am almost 38. Give me until Saturday and I will actually BE 38. I grew up when it wasn’t exactly safe or accepted to meet other ways. Back room blow jobs were a fairly normal way of finding a person you could be all-in with. If you don’t like that, or think it isn’t realistic and don’t want to read it, maybe this isn’t the space for you. It’s okay, there’s millions of other books in genres closer to your tastes/odd expectations.
You shall survive. I promise. Deep breath in, hold it, and channel your inner Elsa as you let it the fuck go.
As for dragging other reviews on social media? That’s fucking taaaaaaacky, bb. Especially when you made up your own narrative and put words and sentiments that weren’t even there front and center of your smear campaign. If you want to say nasty shit, say it with your whole chest, just without the lying, and stop acting like authors and editors aren’t real people with real feelings, opinions, and emotions.
AN AUTHOR??! AN EDITOR?!! Le gasp! How dare another human have something to contribute other than you and yours?!! SHAME! DISHONOUR ON YOU! DISHONOUR ON YOUR COW!
“How dare they use my name!? I used theirs but how D A R E they do it to me!?”😒 Fucking kidding me rn?
You aren’t an expert. You don’t get to make shit up to feel righteous fury over for revenge/funsies. You don’t get to call people vicious, nasty names to make yourself feel powerful. And yeah, I called all of y’all childish and several other things, and I think your dumb shit is exhausting.
But those are just facts.
Look at what you’ve done. You made this fucking mess. You should drop the “ME ANGY” act and clean it tf up.
No one said other books weren’t valid. No one fucking said shit about their opinion being the end-all, be-all but YOU. And I don’t care if the folx who create art also have opinions on other art, because everyone has a goddamn opinion. Even if you only have one for a seat at the Cool Kids’ table, you’re allowed to have it because that’s just what humans do. They share their opinions, and I’m pretty sure a doctor rating and reviewing a hospital wouldn’t get the same amount of fuckery as a book review from someone who works in the literary field.
Also, you’re mad for your “friend”, but other people can’t be upset for theirs? Hypocrites aren’t hot. Double standards are icky and you’re icky for having oh-so many of them. At least try to act like you’ve got some sense.
Be so fucking for real right now, you know you’re ridiculous. We know you’re ridiculous. Should the situation have been handled better by everyone involved? Absolutely. Is this just people playing Petty Patty’s favourite game? You’re goddamn right it is. It’s ugly-on-the-inside behaviour and y’all should feel bad for the way y’all treat others.
This is not The Move. It’s 2025, y’all cannot be serious. I mean, clearly y’all are, but the secondhand embarrassment is REAL. Y’all went to Erewhon and got y’all’s audacity, didn’t y’all? Because that shit is R I C H. 🥴🤡 Clown activity. It’s not 2016 anymore. This is why we have people like Musty and Dumpy running around. Y’all are no better.
Why don’t y’all tell the whole story of why y’all suddenly had all of the problems, eh? Don’t ruin things for others because you like your Burn Book an unhealthy amount. It’s giving “pick me”. It’s giving “toddler-tantrum-in-the-middle-of-the-candy-store”. It’s giving “please-go-step-on-sharpened-Legos-every-day-for-the-foreseeable-future”.
I’m so fucking tired of this shit. This is exhausting. Y’all take the fun out of reading. Y’all make toxic waste in spaces that don’t need or want it. Grab a mirror and do some reflecting about who you are as a person. Touch grass. Something. Shit.
The biggest issue I had was the flippant comments about addicts, but that’s honestly fairly normal knee-jerk thinking for most folx. The conservative campaign of misinformation has definitely shaped entire generations, and while most folx are doing good work on unlearning biases, it takes time. And that’s my opinion. I even gave it in a considerate way. Look at me being a good noodle.
It’s possible when you’re not treating others the way you don’t want to be treated.
4/5. It was a good book that had the same issues every other book out has. It’s more realism than airy romance, it’s got a good story, the characters are wonderful, there weren’t 200 wasted pages of filler content, the sex was fantastic, the love was deep and so good, and please ignore all the bullshit. They all need their naps. Just ignore the fucking reviews and enjoy some smutty art with a lot of heart. Heh. I rhymed, which is a much better use of time than all of it I just wasted falling down a rabbit hole of stupid. This is why we can’t have nice things. Y’all do too much when there’s already too much that needs doing that’s more important. Bullying people has heavy Karmic Justice, so have fun with that. 😌
This was both sweet and hot at the same time. You have two men with amazing chemistry from their very first meeting and I loved that they both couldn’t stay away from one another. Seeing them catch feelings was so cute and fun. I also loved the side characters, a true found family. I both laughed and kicked my feet with giddiness over how fucking cute they were. Loved it! I devoured this in one day and I’m already looking forward to their next book 😍
If you enjoy books with well-rounded characters (with flaws) and realistic plots, this book is not for you. That being said, this book was not for me.
It started off ok with the hookup and then discovering they are going to be working together, and then it went downhill.
- The writing was inconsistent and distracting to the point of taking me out of the story. There was a lack of contractions (you are instead of you’re, etc) that added an unnatural stiffness to the dialogue and then, out of nowhere, the well-educated lawyer uses the words “ain’t” and “gonna”. What?
- The story was filled with side characters to the point it detracted from the main romance. If you’ve read the authors’ other work and enjoyed it, this might not bother you. I just kept thinking “why do I need to know this person’s entire backstory?”.
- It felt a little like a how-to manual or a guide on how to be a good ally, or maybe even a call-to-arms via a guilt trip? I’m not sure how to put it into words, but if you know, you’ll know it when you read it.
- It was so light-hearted and idealistic that any “conflict” was unbelievable and felt glossed-over.
- The characters were too perfect and lacked any kind of depth. Not to mention the mental gymnastics they needed to do to convince themselves they “don’t do relationships” and “don’t have feelings” felt like a lazy way to draw out the “romance” after the first six months were skipped in a time jump.
- There was a lot of telling going on. There was some showing as well, but it was like the authors felt it was necessary to immediately reiterate in no uncertain terms exactly what they were trying to show you.
If you like light-hearted books to escape reality and aren’t too invested in grammar or character growth, you might like this book.
Jordan Bell needs something to calm his nerves the night before a big interview. Dressed to impress he heads to his favourite club, looking for a hookup. Not only does he succeed, but it is the hookup of his life. The only name he has to go by is ‘Dimples’.
Eric Smith is desperately looking for a paralegal to help with his work load. Everyone he has interviewed so far has not been good enough. The night before the interview, he also heads to a club looking to let off some steam, he hookups with ‘Lashes’.
At the interview, the last person either expects is their mind blowing hookup from last night. Dimples and Lashes are reunited. Eric gives Jordan the job, based on his merits not his mouth.
These two are head over heels for each other, but neither want a relationship. What they don't realise is, they are in a relationship. After a turn of events, they both admit they want each other.
This sweet, charming and funny story from Elamy Pride is just the heartwarming tale I needed. I loved the banter between the main characters, and they fact they never regret or deny each other. It was lovely to read about past characters from the Tattooed series.
I absolutely adore this story!! Both characters are likeable and relatable, ok lovable! I love them both. Jordan is so unapologetically himself and knows what he wants, well, thinks he knows what he wants. He is also sweet, caring and full of sass. Eric is your typical workaholic, not looking for or indeed prepared for the force of nature that is Jordan. The sweet pet names, the banter, the relationship, the 🌶️🌶️🌶️, it’s all, chefs kiss. We also get to catch up with other characters from the Tattooed Series, which I love.
Elamy Pride’s writing is fabulous and I am a huge fan. I look forward to seeing what this fabulous author has for us next
Oh I see what you did there! Joric is the ship name of the main characters.
“I didn’t realize you two were a thing. What is it the kids do with the names? Jordan and Eric… Joric. That's kind of epic. Joric Forever!”
Jordan and Eric have a one night stand. The next day, Jordan has a job interview at Eric’s work and is hired.
Fast forward. Six months of working together and off the clock sexy times. Six months of Eric/ Dimples and Jordan/Lashes in an undefined situationship. Six months we don’t read about so it feels abrupt when suddenly they are trying to navigate feelings.
They rescue orphaned gay teen, Blake, from his abusive brother and semi adopt him. Not really, Blake’s at a shelter but they visit him and buy things he needs.
“I’ve just seen a whole other side to Jordan Bell. It feels like a piece of my heart that I didn’t know was missing has suddenly clicked into place.”
“I'm pretty sure I’m watching my boss with cartoon heart eyes and that is a one-way trip to unemployment.”
“Dammit, he really needs to stop with this bullshit. I do not want to wife this man up, but right now it feels like he isn't giving me a choice. He's wicked smart, funny as hell, sexy as sin and accepts my fiendish quirks as the norm.”
These two are developing serious feelings which kinda all come out and bam - they are boyfriends.
There’s drama at the end but they end up happily together.
This book didn’t really capture my interest. I wasn’t invested in their relationship. The writing was ok, I think there were characters from other books. For two commitment dodging men, the book missed scenes of that nature. It went from boy meets boy, to six months later, to bonding and realising they have feelings. I would’ve enjoyed some hot chase and catch scenarios between the two of them, some playful banter and teasing of will they / won’t they end up together etc.
Joric is definitely not what I was expecting. Like I was expecting the same plot line of meeting the hookup the next day, it turns out to be your new boss and perhaps trying to skirt the issue that you two hooked up and the whole book about their secret hookups and the third act drama is that 6 months down the line they realize they have only been seeing each other, and then break up and get back together for a HEA, but that was not this book.
This book had so much more. Of course the two was going to catch feelings and I think having them navigate the feelings in the way they did was great, both handled the feelings differently, but I was glad they didn’t freak out and run away. (No third act breakup!) I love the external factors which helped propel their relationship forward as well as the cameos from previous book characters.
This is definitely a high star rating book for me. It’s starts with a bang, no third act breakup, and I love the cameos from the previous stories. The group msg towards the end of the book was hilarious. I’d read the book just for the impact of it. It would be enjoyable as a standalone, but definitely go back and get the rest of the cast’s stories.
I received an ARC of Joric in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Joric. The story was well written, low angst with some very spicy scenes. There is a lot of smut in this book.. if you’re looking for a light hearted read with a large side of smut this is the book for you.
Coming off the back of some very heavy books this was the perfect palette cleanser. Jordan was hilarious and his inner dialogue had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.
I loved the development of Jordan & Eric’s relationship and I adored the cute pet names (lashes & dimples). Not to be overlooked is their shipped name - I thought Joric was an odd name for a book but it’s actually pretty perfect when you find out the context for it.
The side characters were fun. I had not read any of Elamy Prides novels before Joric and I was thrilled to find out that all these side characters had stories of their own. So yes my TBR immediately grew.
Overall a great read and I’m looking forward to reading more of Elamy Prides novels.
Oh, this was a delight. These two are pure fun together, and they are communicating! There are no dumb misunderstandings, not talking or "I know better" situations They have their problems and talk about them. They work through them together ... like adults. I loved it There is one hurtle at the beginning when they decide to follow up on their hook-up. But as they talk about that and it does not influence their behaviour at work, it was OK for me .
This was a great book and I loved it. Elamy Pride is new to me ... but will be definitely on my to-read list in the future
This is the first book I have read by the authors, and it's a bit jarring since it is part of a series, but not something that took away from this book. Instead, after I finished I already decided to go back and read the other 3 books from this series. I like the dynamic between all the characters and their relationships. It was well written and not a lot of angst.
Received this as an ARC copy, and this is my honest review.
When Jordan needs to let out some steam before his job interview, he finds that in a man that - as you guessed it - turns out to be his new boss, Eric. Neither wants a relationshio and their situationship goes on for months before feelings start to appear.
I liked sassy Jordan and caretaker Eric, they fit well together.
The teen storyline gave the book some more pizzazz and slight angst (read trigger warnings!), which made this an interesting read.
It was nice to see couples from Tattooed series making appearances as well.
This is a new to me author (co author duo) and I can definitely say I'll be checking out their blacklist. The steam! 🥵🥵 This was a hot AF read with feels on top. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to downloading the books that feature the tattoo shop couples I met in this one. I'm crossing my fingers for another sweet, but spicy time! 🌶🌶
This book definitely has a cheeky and spicy vibe to it that takes a little adjusting to. The spice in particular is heavy and prevalent throughout, so be aware of that before jumping in. But once you settle into the story, there's a great deal to enjoy here. I think where this book shines greatest is in its depiction of the characters, and its initial opening premise i.e. finding out the guy you just had a one night stand with is now your new boss.
So lets start with the main characters, Jordan and Eric, as they are by far the greatest draw of this book. Jordan is definitely the more interesting of the two, with a no nonsense and self-aware personality, Jordan very much gives off a 'fierce' vibe. He knows what he wants and he goes for it with confidence, which keeps the story moving, leaving less room for dragged out indecision. What I also like about him is how the author leans into his femininity, with Jordan not being afraid to express this side of himself in a way that Eric finds attractive. You typically see a very specific type of gay man depicted in these stories, and its good that the author is providing a bit of variety here, helping to break up the monotony. His journey towards accepting commitment parallels nicely with Eric's, giving them a uniting goal to overcome as a romantic pairing.
Eric is a little more one note, and we don't get a great deal from him. His father is distant due to the death of his mother, but I can't say this resulted in any sort of personality flaw he has to contend with, maybe its wrapped up in his commitment issues, but its not made clear. I do like his role in this as the boss, and as the more 'put together' of the two. I think he just gets a little outshone by Jordan, who has a much more interesting personality.
Now if I was to look for a real flaw in this book, I would say the events surrounding most of the plot are fairly random. When we're in the moment and the events are unfolding, yeah its entertaining to read, but your also questioning about what this has to do with their relationship. Now I don't want to spoil, but very intense story moments happen out of the blue with no real build up or relevance to our two boys. I feel like we could have had certain events surrounding the teen they save better integrated into the development of their romantic relationship. Maybe if we had Jordan and Eric being forced to live together to support this new dependent, it would have been a more organic way of introducing his story and have their relationship develop alongside it.
These are just thoughts though, and the story still remains pretty fun and well written throughout, so if your someone that likes fun MCs and plenty of spice, this book will be right up your alley. Well done Elamy Pride, this book is very solid, and i'm looking forward to reading more.
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Lashes and Dimples, aka Jordan and Eric. There was no angst about their physical relationship (which I expected at first as one is the boss at their workplace), this was really refreshing. There were some humorous scenes as well as some drama and the friends were very appealing. I haven't read the previous books by these authors, but I will definitely try them. This works well as an interconnected standalone.
I really enjoyed this book that, while remaining relatively low angst, was not just fluff. There are a couple of more serious things that happen and need to be dealt with. Jordan is absolutely hilarious and had me cracking up constantly. Eric was also a lot of fun, and kept Jordan on his toes and somewhat in check. The text thread with Pete and Jordan’s parents was amazing 😂 4.5/5
I'm rounding this up from 3.5. I did enjoy the overall story for this one. It just took me some time to really get into it and there were some things that didn't work well for me.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was low angst, had some great banter and snark, and was a fun, quick read. This is somewhat a workplace romance, but we don't see a lot of them navigating workplace situations, the focus is more on their relationship and the feelings growing between them.
Jordan and Eric meet at a bar, have a one night stand, go their separate ways and next day Jordan shows up to interview for the position of Eric's paralegal. They end up entering a situationship, but they slowly also develop feelings. It was fun to see everyone telling them they were in love and them being oblivious to it.
Jordan is such a fun and vibrant character. I loved his snark, his brattiness and dramatics a lot! Eric was the perfect person to kind of balance him out a bit, but also be the person Jordan could be goofy and fun with. I loved caretaking and lawyer Eric a lot too. It was great to see Eric being assertive and in control.
I really enjoyed all of the side characters and now I'm curious to read the stories of the other couples. I really enjoyed the fact that Jordan's mom Beverly was so like Jordan and they made me laugh a lot by being so over the top and snarky.
This is definitely a fun read that you will fly through, so if you're in the mood for a workplace romance between a lawyer and his paralegal, then this is your book.
Well, what to say? The plot of this story seemed promising, I really liked the premise. It was the execution I didn't care for. There was an instant connection between Jordan and Eric, but it was hard to follow their relationship because of the massive jumps in time. I was like, what the heck....and often had to backtrack to see what I'd missed. The dialogue was kinda cheesy, and also a little stiff in parts. Contractions really were needed. There were so many secondary characters! I honestly found it difficult to keep track of them. Unfortunately, it really didn't live up to my expectations, although I did find the ending sweet. I understand that two authors wrote the story, and possibly that explains why the whole thing didn't quite seem to mesh.
Full disclosure - I was line and copy editor on this book. For those of you who don’t know, that means I took the completed manuscript and examined grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and other technical concerns, all the while working with the sole intention of preserving the author’s voice and style. This is Elamy’s story, and they have written a great one. Their inspiration and commitment to showing a more authentic development of a gay relationship - that is, a huge physical spark that morphs into an ongoing sexual situation and then an eventual committed relationship - is a refreshing take on formulas that are often contrived and misrepresentative.
It’s common for men who are emotionally closed off to protect themselves the way the main characters do in this book. They have spent their lives allowing only their sexual side to thrive, and their habitual reluctance to form true intimacy takes time and nurturing - and, in this case, major events - to surface. This is how it often happens, folks. Gay men do not wait around till they get an engagement ring before they have sex. They do not concoct implausible excuses to avoid it. They do not ignore the initial spark of attraction just because movies and romance novels and the stereotypical cishet romantic fantasy tells them they have to. And when that realisation and acceptance of love happens? It SURPRISES them.
I’m all about escapism, but I vigorously applaud authors who write with sensitivity and strive for accuracy within the framework of their MM style. Are these MM tropes here? Yes, and they’re larger than life in the truest sense of MM escapism. The story is funny and sexy and hits home in many ways. These authors have a gift for bawdy sex comedy and they don’t apologise for it. The fact that they give a damn about plausible romantic development is the cherry on top.
Not a sequel, but adjacent to the wonderful Tattooed series, you don’t need to read them to enjoy Joric, but you definitely should! Both MCs have ties to the lovely Cliffer brothers. Eric is Drew’s boss, and Jordan is Pete’s old roommate. Drew gets Jordan an interview with Eric, who is looking for a new paralegal. Jordan is amazing at his job, but is a little surprised to find out the man he’s meeting with is the same intriguing stranger he got to know in a very different way the night before. Of course Jordan gets the job. And unable to control their attraction, they quietly begin a FWB situation. Even though both slowly realize it might be something more than that. Even as they both deny it’s anything more than that. And even though everyone around them can see these two adorable idiots are in love - even if they haven’t caught on yet. I enjoyed so much about this book. The scorching chemistry Jordan and Eric share. Jordan’s hysterical mon who’s prone to over sharing. The friendship Pete and Jordan still have - even as Pete is happily coupled up with Gavin. And then there’s a Lululemon clad, gun-toting Jordan - which was out of character and kind of sexy. Especially because it was in the context of saving a vulnerable young man. Who Eric and Jordan kind of adopt. (I love the boys at the shelter come up with the Joric portmanteau.) It’s funny, sexy, and heartfelt. And I totally get the Competence Kink. Eric being all growly avenger, and Jordan proving there’s more than to him than just sass and glitter. His quiet command of legal matters were huge green flags for me. Jordan’s birthday ends in an unexpected way, and sets the stage for a wonderful HEA for everyone. Plus, Lashes and Dimples are superlative nicknames. Note to self: schedule a reread of the Tattooed series… ****1/2 stars
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it.
I was cautious as I normally find the power imbalance in workplace romances difficult to navigate but I actually like that this portion is not really shown in the book. And I would say that any power is firmly on Jordan‘s side anyway.
It‘s a great story about two guys who both don‘t want a relationship and don‘t realise that they are actually in one already. There is a time gap between their initial meeting and Jordan getting his job and when the story line actually picks up. I would have loved some interaction and how they move from just hook ups on repeat to this situationship which is actually a relationship.
Jordan is a great character, passionately protective when he finds a person who needs him. As long as nobody develops romantic feelings. Well, it seems romance didn‘t get the script and feelings crept up on both of them.
But they handle it full steam ahead. Rescuing Blake brings out more than both originally want.
There is definitely chemistry between them and both are written with decent depth and are likeable.
Jordan’s parents are great, I also like his circle of friends. Saying that, this is actually one negative point here: the book is not a real stand-alone, there is a background from other books and while not 100% necessary, I think I would have benefited from knowing them beforehand.
I’m new to Elamy Pride’s work. I wish that there was a note in the blurb stating that this book is set in the same universe as Elamy Pride’s Tattooed Series but can be read as a standalone, as I was a tad confused when Jordan was mentioning his best friend Pete and Pete’s brother Drew in the first few pages of the book as it seemed like we should’ve already known them, a few of the characters from that series also have cameos during this book. I could still follow along with the story though so it wasn’t such a big deal.
I do wish we got more of the start of the “relationship” between Jordan and Eric as it went from a hot as hell hook up, then a 6 month time jump where it turned into a Situationship and then after they helped rescue a troubled teen called Blake they both started to view each other in a different light than they ever had before, and they realise that they not only actually care about each other but have pretty much been in a relationship for awhile now without even realising it.
I thought that Jordan aka Lashes and Eric aka Dimples chemistry was off the charts, as well as hot as hell and I really liked how their relationship progressed after they admitted to the other how they actually feel, as real emotion was involved. Blake is such a sweetheart and I’m glad that he’s finally found a family that loves and supports him unconditionally. I’m looking forward to reading more of Elamy Pride’s books in the future. I’d recommend this book and author to others.
******I received a complimentary copy of this book through GRR. I would still happily review this book even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******
This was a relatively low angst boss/employee romance. It's the night before a big job interview with a law firm, and Jordan, who is paralegal, decides to go out and find a "good luck" hookup. He meets a hot, older guy and they have a steamy hookup and go their separate ways. The next day when Jordan shows up for his interview he is shocked to find his hookup is his new potential boss. Eric, a defense lawyer, realizes that Jordan is a great paralegal and hires him with the intention of keeping things professional. However, they quickly decide to become boss and employee with benefits. The book does jump 6 months ahead after Eric hires Jordan as his paralegal which I don't mind since it shows that the 2 MC's have gotten to know each other. Yes, they still hookup but are also friends who can talk about anything. It was cute how they both realized they had developed true romantic feelings for each other. I liked that that when they confessed their feelings that the book didn't end there but showed how commitment phone Jordan worked thru his panic at realizing that he loved Eric. This was a really cute and steamy story. I received an ARC of this book from GRR in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed Jordan and Eric's not-romance a lot. Neither man wanted a relationship to tie them down but then they realised far too late that they'd been in one for most of the time they'd known each other. Jordan and Eric were good characters, their chemistry was off the charts, they were likeable men and had good hearts too. I loved seeing the passion between them but the love they felt was even better. Their friend circle was fun to read about, although I would have preferred to know beforehand that those friends already had their own books (in the Tattoed series). As soon as we met them, I felt as though I should know them as there was obviously more backstory for them than you would normally expect as side characters. I don't mind if there are previous books as long as I can make my own mind up at what point I want to start, rather than being blindsided. There was a lot of humour in their relationship, which just enhanced the story for me. I can't finish my review without stating that Chapter 18 had me howling with laughter, tears streaming down my face and my stomach hurting, then Chapter 21 set me off again. You can't beat a book that makes you laugh out loud like a lunatic.
Eric He’s a hardworking lawyer fighting for the little man, Eric loves his job and his life just the way it is:. Simple and uncomplicated is just the way he prefers things, until he meets Lashes. A tiny twink of a man with a huge personality and snark that could scare the hair off a cat, no man dare dim his light. Loving Jordan is everything Eric didn’t know he wanted in his life but the actions of another may take away his love forever, how can Eric protect a man that is determined to take on everyone in his way.
Jordan It was supposed to be one night, so fun, a one and done situation so imagine Jordan’s surprise when he walks into an interview for his dream job and sees the man that blew the top off his head the night before. No strings attached that’s all Jordan can handle but Eric turns out to be something more and Jordan wants to soak it all up. Needing another is not in his life plan he cannot be dependant on Eric and risk his heart, but it’s inevitable.
Joric by Elamy Pride is the perfect mix of charm, humour, and steam. Jordan and Eric's story kicks off with a mind-blowing one-night stand—only to discover the next day that Jordan is interviewing for a job at Eric’s law firm. The shock doesn’t stop Eric from hiring Jordan based on merit (not just their unforgettable night together), and despite both insisting they don’t want a relationship, their actions say otherwise.
Jordan is unapologetically himself—sassy, sweet, and full of life—while Eric is the classic workaholic, completely unprepared for the whirlwind that is Jordan. Their banter, undeniable chemistry, and adorable pet names make this story an absolute delight. Plus, the spice levels? Chef’s kiss.
With low angst, high steam, and plenty of snark, this book was exactly what I needed. I am now off to read the Tattooed series to see the other character's stories as I'm a huge fan of Elamy Pride’s storytelling. I’m excited to see what they come up with next!
