After this summer, Katy’s life may change forever. Katy is looking forward to the best summer ever as her closest friend, Shelby, is staying with her after an accident forces her to miss her family’s mission trip. But when Katy’s aunt faces a serious illness and needs the girls to run the fabric store, Katy’s plans fall apart. Suddenly what should have been a summer of relaxation becomes filled with long hours at the shop. But then a Mennonite boy visits her community for the summer. His presence complicates her life, as do her feelings for Bryce, her non-Mennonite crush. Katy has several decisions to make by the time August arrives, the largest being whether she will attend school in the fall and follow her dreams, or continue on in her Mennonite life to help her family. Katy struggles to choose between the two worlds she loves, but the final decision may be out of her hands.
Award-winning, bestselling author Kim Vogel Sawyer told her kindergarten teacher that someday people would check out her book in the library. The little-girl dream came true in 2006 with the release of Waiting for Summer's Return. Kim's titles now exceed 1.5 million copies and are available in six different languages. A former elementary school teacher, she now enjoys a full-time writing and speaking ministry. Kim's passion lies in writing stories that point the reader to a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. When Kim isn't writing, you'll find her traveling with her retired military hubby, spoiling her granddarlings, petting the cats, quilting, or--as time allows--participating in community theater. “In the final book of the Katy Lambright Series, Katy's worlds collide. Shelby Nuss, Katy's best friend outside of her sect, breaks her ankle right before leaving with her family on a mission trip. Unable to travel, Shelby decides to stay with Katy on her farm, which delights Katy to no end. Finally, parts of her world are coming together! But when Shelby is in Schellberg full-time, things with Katy's other best friend, Annika, once again become strained, and Katy's issues with Caleb Penning get worse. Added to this, the town elders will soon decide if Katy can continue on in the secular high school next year---soon, Katy may be forced to decide what world she really belongs in.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Pre Teens- One Star New Teens- Two Stars (and a half) Early High School Teens- Three Stars (and a half) Older High School Teens- Four Stars My personal Rating- Four Stars Okay, I think this one really made the series for me—an I’m in complete denial that this in the last book of the series! That ending was great and made me squee with them. “Katy’s Decision” was quite humorous with three guys vying for her attention—and I’m happy to say that my ship won. ;)
3.5 stars, and I’m sad to say I didn’t like this one quite as well as the rest of the series. I was not happy with the 3 guys that simultaneously (and suddenly - for one of the guys anyway) like Katy, and I was not wild about her final choice. This book also felt more rushed than the first 3. I did like Katy’s relationship with her aunt and I liked Katy’s maturation from the beginning of the series to the end.
I'm so sad to see the Katy Lambright series finished! I hope the author does a book with older Katy and Jonathan. I really liked his character and even though I liked Bryce and started to like Caleb, as soon as Jonathan Richter was introduced I preffered him and hoped she ended up with him.
The book was really great because it shows how Katy deals with her aunt's cancer and the new responsibilities in her life. It shows readers that even though Katy is Mennonite and might live differently from them, she still has very similiar family issues that arise. Cancer can affect anyone, anywhere.
This series is worth reading from beginning to end. Plan for a good chunk of time to read, too. Because you're not going to want to put them down or stop between books. I didn't.
A great young adult book about an Amish teenager who has been allowed to go to public high school. Her summer is not at all what she had planned on. There are too many boys who seem to like her; what will happen with school; what does her future hold? It was a quick, fun read.
When I first found out I was a First Reads winner of Katy's Decision, I debated on reading the first three in the series. I ended up not doing so as I just don't have the time and I was curious how it would read as a stand-alone title. I was very pleased with the book. It stands on its own just fine. There are references to things I am sure occur in the earlier books, but it doesn't affect the understanding of this story. Katy is a wonderful character. Her desire to keep her father and community happy while not giving up her dreams is touching and inspiring to everyone. The light romance is sweet and I love that the author shows Katy as an Amish girl who has the same problems as girls living with all the modern conveniences in other cities. Her long list of possible love-interests is diverse and entertaining, though I do think she ended up with the best of them all! The family issues she is dealing with are ones that anyone can relate to, stepmother, illness, etc... Now I have added the previous three in the series to my "to-read" shelf.
Katy's Decision is the fourth book in the series. I have not read the first three and this book can stand alone. Having said that, I am very interested in reading the first three to get a better picture of the main characters life and conflicts. This is a great YA book. The main character, Kathleen Lambright, is an Amish girl that is 17 years old. She has been allowed to attend a public high school and loves journalism. The story shows how she manages to balances her wants with her family's needs. It is a fantastic story of families working together to benefit all. She has worldly friends which is a reminder that our differences shouldn't separate from one another. I throughly enjoyed this book. I was sent this book through Goodreads First Reads.
I did not read the first books of this series, but when I won Katy's Decision from the Goodreads Giveaway I decided to give it a try. It is a simple read that I am sure young adults would enjoy. The characters are well defined and likeable.
Katy had to make a decision between three guys. During the entire story, I knew who I was rooting for. I will have to see in the next book if she ends up with the correct person.
Although I did not read the first few books I was able to follow the story and did not feel lost. I feel inclined to read the first few books to catch up on any of the details I missed.
If you are reading the whole set of books, I highly recommend this one even if your not. I really think this book is better in several ways from the last one. I love that she has so many decisions and actually decides who to date because they won't take her away from her home or community. I also enjoyed that she will get to accomplish her goals in life without continuing school if that is what happens in the next book. She seems to be a very caring person. Someone that if I were that age again I would like to be friends with cause you could always count on them.
Growing up in Indiana, I always had a deep interest in the Mennonite and Amish ways of life. I won this book through Goodreads Giveaways and I am very glad that i did! I was very intrigued by this book and Katy's story. I learned a lot about the Mennonite culture and their way of life. I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a story about young love and the challenges that arise when the two come from different worlds.
I love the Katy series! I still have yet to read #1&2, but #3 and this book, #4, are awesome! She makes some really mature decisions about boys, relationships, and family responsibility for her age in this book. This is a wonderful YA book, wish I had this book when I was a teen, maybe it would have inspired me to be more like Katy instead of your average young dumb teen, haha
It was a sweet story of a young lady coming to adulthood. She faces decisions to be made resulting from an illness in her family. Her religon weighs heavily on all the choices she makes, regarding her schooling, boyfriends as well as family obligations.
Thought a younger reader may enjoy it more than I, however it was okay.
This is a nice wholesome read. The story was written well enough that even though this is #4 in the series I could jump right in without having read the ones before. This is a good recommendation for the more conservative reader.
This is the fourth book in the Katy Lambright series and it does not leave you wanting. It is a lovely book about coming of age. Nice book and I would recommend it to others. Thank you for sharing.
