On the brink of war with the Sioux, a young woman risks everything to expose the betrayal threatening the man she loves.
Christmas is coming, and the air at Fort Laramie has turned cold . . . but relations with the Sioux have turned colder. As tensions between soldiers and natives approach a tipping point, Ben Croftner and Jessica DuBois prepare a trap for Rand Campbell.
Bitter from rejection and backfired plans, Croftner has enlisted the help of Rand's new fiancee to keep Rand from ever returning to Sarah Montgomery . . . for whom his heart clearly still yearns.
Sarah is simply trying to move on with her life at Fort Laramie, but doing so under the watchful eyes of both Campbell--the man whose love she craves--and Croftner--the man whose lies have cost her everything. Will Rand fall victim to the conspiracy and go through with his wedding? Or will he declare his love for Sarah and make good on the promises that brought her into the rugged western territories?
USAToday bestselling author Colleen Coble lives with her husband, Dave, in Arizona. She is the author of dozens of novels including the Rock Harbor Series, the Aloha Reef Series, the Mercy Falls Series, the Hope Beach Series, the Lonestar Series and two Women of Faith fiction selections, Alaska Twilight and Midnight Sea. She has more than 6 million books in print.
The middle two books in a six-book series are the hardest to sustain the story and still maintain the interest of your readers. Colleen Coble does a fairly good job in this third installment, with action and suspense that carry things along quickly and effortlessly. The antagonistic characters stimulate, and provide someone to rally against when they show their absolute selves. They are not just cold, but cruel and calculating in their nefariousness.
The inclusion of the Sioux burial customs was informative. There's not space in these serial reads to include much detail but the brief explanation was enough to supply basic information.
I was surprised by the ending as I expected it to happen later, not so soon in the overall storyline. I am curious to see where the story goes from here as a couple threads seem to be concluded and I am not certain what else might take place.
A Heart’s Danger is book three in the Journey of the Heart novella series. These novellas should definitely be read in order. The stories continue from book to book and, once finished, will be a complete tale.
I really enjoyed this installment. There is definitely a lot of action and danger in the story. Much character growth also takes place. I was not at all happy with Rand in book two, but he has definitely redeemed himself in A Heart’s Danger.
Sarah continues to be her caring and kind self. She shows herself to be a strong and smart woman, determined to survive in this savage land, against known and unknown enemies.
I am looking forward to reading book four in the series.
My thanks to Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson for the complimentary copy that I received in exchange for my honest review.
Easy quick read...The 3rd in the series has more action and drama than the other books. Looking forward to see if anything else shifts in this storyline because by the ending of the third book, appears all has been resolved. Curious to see how the next in the series flow with the previous ones.
This book seems to wrap up Sarah and Rand's story, but I'm thinking the rest of the books might give mention or cameos of them (since it sounds as they're set at Fort Laramie too).
This is a quick read and filled with plenty of suspense. Both Sarah and Rand are in danger for their lives, and are alone on the frontier. Can Rand escape...or, if he does, will he be in time to stop the plot against Sarah?
Sarah Montgomery is settling in at Fort Laramie. Rand's new fiancee wants to keep him from returning to Sarah and will do anything to make sure she stays away. Anything.
I love these books. It feels as though I'm there. Danger and suspense fill the pages as the action plays out. It's a moving book that I couldn't put down.
So many stories have the Indians as the bad guys. Not completely so with A Heart's Danger. As readers, we see the "realness" of the Indian Nation. In fact, we get to go into a teepee.
I look forward to the next book as the adventure continues.
“I can’t pine after Rand the rest of my days. He’s made his decision very clear.” ~ A Heart’s Danger
A Heart’s Danger, by Colleen Coble, is book three of a six-part Journey of the Heart series. I haven’t read the previous two books, but that didn’t keep me from becoming completely enthralled by this one.
I love the concept of these ‘mini’ stories, easily read in a day, but swelling with action, adventure, and love. The characters are easy to friend, and are difficult to part with. Reading a book in this time period, 1866, is new to me, but I was quickly immersed into battles with the Sioux, and hardships of the rugged western territories.
As I stated before, I didn’t start this series at the beginning, but I certainly want to now! I love Sarah’s tenacity, and Rand’s devotion and courage. I want to find out more about them, their history.
I’ve read other works by Colleen Coble, a gifted Christian writer, and have never been disappointed. From the settings to the character arcs, I love every aspect of her writings, and can’t wait to continue (and backtrack) through this Journey of the Heart.

Wow this one was pretty action packed wasn't it? This is the third addition to a six book series that Colleen Coble is publishing. It's a series that she wrote a while back that is only now being published, it's a series inspired by her brother's death. While they're a bit shorter than the length of books I normally read, they're still interesting and almost like a bite-sized read, great for an afternoon or cozy night in bed.
In this book a lot of things happened, it's quite actioned packed and a lot of things were resolved. It almost makes me wonder what is left to happen. Two men want Sarah and one nearly tricked her into marrying him in the first book. He has a dastardly plan that comes to light and put into action in A Heart's Danger. I think I flew through this book the quickest because there was so many things occurring.
I thought that the plot was good, there's something happening nearly every chapter so you certainly don't get bored. The world-building is very authentic. I believe the author said in a forward that she went out and visited where her brother had lived and it shows in the writing. The world described in the writing is easy to imagine and your taken back in time to the wild west.
Overall, the romance was sweet, the plot was fast-paced, and the writing takes you back in time to just after the civil war. If you like Colleen Coble or are looking for a Janette Oke sort of book, I'd recommend it! The only issue I think you'd find is that things seem to move very quickly because it's a rather short book (only 100 pages or so)...but other than that it's a nice a read :)
This is the third installment in A Journey of the Heart series by Colleen Coble. This is a quick read, but well worth it. This is a suspenseful story interlaced with a romance that is historically set in the spring of 1866.
The story is centered around Sarah Montgomery and her life at Fort Laramie.
The author brings us strong characters who you can instantly like. For instance, I immediately like Sarah, but feel empathy towards her. She has deep feelings for Rand, but knows he will doesn't return her feelings. She has tried to forget him, but with running into him at the fort constantly it's not easy. She has been talking with Issac Liddle, but she only likes him as a friend. Whereas Rand was harder to warm up to for me. Rand has become engaged to Jessica. What he doesn't realize is that his feelings for Sarah is written all over his face. He is always trying to protect her and make things more bearable. The imagery she weaves in the story brings the story to life.
I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it to anyone.
I received this book from Netgalley for a honest opinion without bias. The opinions and thoughts are my own.
Continuing the story of A Heart’s Disguise and A Heart’s Obsession, Colleen Coble’s A Heart’s Danger takes quite a few dangerous turns, as the title suggests. Full of fast-paced action, this novella shows Rand and Sarah, continuing to determine what their friendship should look like, while confronting a tricky foe or two. I enjoyed revisiting all these familiar characters and finding a bit of conclusion to Rand and Sarah’s romantic storyline and now very much look forward to seeing where the series will go next. A overall delightful and quick read, A Heart’s Danger is a wonderful afternoon choice for fans of Coble’s A Journey of the Heart series.
Thanks to LitFuse Publicity Group, I received a copy of A Heart’s Danger and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
This is third book in this series, and be ready for action, from the first page to the end. There are kidnappings, murder, and Indian Wars. Our old friend, sarcastic comment, Ben Croftner is at it again, and this time he has some help. We rejoin Sarah, Rand, Joel, Amanda and Jacob as they go about their lives at Ft Laramie in our Western Territory of Wyoming. As the story restarts Sarah is trying to go on with her life, now that Rand is engaged to Jessica, and there seems to be a new love interest here. With all that happens here, and there is a lot, will Ben finally make Sarah his wife? Will Jessica get her way in all that she wants? The questions are about to be answered and more! I received this book through Litfuse Blogger Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
This series just keeps getting better and better and drawing me deeper into the lives of the characters. A Heart’s Danger delves into the dark plans of two of the characters introduced previously. Of course, with war on the horizon the suspense is thick. Sarah has suffered loss throughout the series and at times it seems like she will never have anything other than heartache, but there is a spark in her that makes her shine even in the darkest night. She is one tough heroine…I love this about her! I was surprised to have several answers finally play out on the pages of the book, and am looking very very much forward to what lies ahead. The next title has me wondering already! A Heart’s Danger was a wonderful reminder to me that no matter what we are facing in our own lives, we can always look for the good and help may come to us in the most unexpected way.
This book is an excellent addition to this mini book series. With only 128 pages the story is limited of course but a lot of action happens in this book that I didn't see coming. The romance I still don't enjoy but I was surprised how everything played out. I do love the cover of this book and I am anxious to see what the next book looks like. The only I really don't enjoy is some of the dialogue seems very forced and awkward. There still isn't a lot of depth and perhaps that's because the books are all split up, I'm not sure. Either way I still want to read the next book and if you are interested in reading you must start with book one!

What a wonderful conclusion to Rand and Sarah's story! I absolutely love Colleen Coble and this short story is no exception. It picks up where A Heart's Obsession ends and flows seamlessly through until the end. It's an excellent addition to the Journey of the Heart series. Every time Sarah thinks she might be moving on with her life, something happens that sends her back to Rand. She knows she needs to get past her feelings for him, since his upcoming marriage is a date she knows he will never break, but how does a girl just get over the man she's been in love with her entire life? Partly as a distraction, but mainly because she was asked, Sarah uses her time teaching the Sioux children to get to know more about them. When she finds herself more embedded in their culture than she ever expected, could it be the one thing that brings her and Rand back together again? This is the final book that focuses on Sarah, as the next book focuses on Emmi, Ben's sister. It kind of felt a bit farfetched, but I feel like she probably accurately portrayed the opinion of most of the settlers toward the First Nations tribe they encountered. All in all a good series for a first time author, but she definitely improved with her future books
These are short stories - 6 books with only 100 pages in them. This one was intense with Ben and Jessica's plot to get rid of Sarah and how she breaks away from Ben by clubbing him over the head, the Indians then have her. Rand lives through his stake out that Ben did to him - someone cut him loose, gave him a fur, and water and food. It doesn't ever say who it was, but I wonder if it wasn't Labe (Ben's brother) because he didn't like what Ben was doing. Rand realizes he still loves Sarah and hunts until he finds her with the Indians. Thankfully, Rand had spared the life of one of the Indians so he gave Sarah back to Rand as in fair exchange. Rand tells Jessica the wedding is off. Then he is free to marry Sarah, which is where the story leaves off.
In this book the story of Sarah and Rand’s future is finally resolved. Again as with the previous story, it was an okay read for me. There were again elements of the story that were harsher then I liked. I get those elements are likely historically appropriate but they just detracted from my enjoyment of the overall story. That being said, I will keep reading to see how it all plays out in the end. The stories are super short and I do like the characters enough to see how everything turns out for them.
Colleen Coble describes the scenery and characters so vividly the reader can almost feel the frigid cold and torrential rainstorms as they occur. I rejoiced when Sarah and Rand experience their happily ever after the traitorous plans against them are interrupted. I especially admired how Coble illustrated the interactions between Rand and the young Sioux warrior. That action leads to the Indian rescuing Sarah from evil men.

This love story takes place mostly at Ft Laramie. The Sioux are on the brink of war, yet Sarah takes a chance to join her one true love there. When she arrives she find Rand has a new fiancée, the commanders daughter. Sarah stays on at Ft Laramie fighting her emotions. She become a teacher of the Sioux children at the fort. The relationships built as the result of this teaching spread throughout the story. Good read.
The publisher should’ve bound books 1-3 together. And let books 4-6 be a book 2. Carrying around all these tiny books is cumbersome. This is the main reason for the rating.
This story was more a romance than a suspense—like this author is more known for. It was a good story overall, just poorly bound.
In this third book in the series A Journey of the Heart, we find Sarah has made it to meet up with her old fiance Rand. All is not how she expected it to be. The story is about adventure out west, second chances and the war between the soldiers and the American Indians. It has characters to love and characters to hate or at least not like very much.
The ending of this novella was quite abrupt and some things happened way too fast for my liking. I might change the rating if some things turn out to be different from what they seem, but from what I understand, it’s a new storyline with another new main character and Sarah will only be a side character.
In this third continuing novella, Sarah reaches Fort Laramie to find her man engaged to another woman. Sarah has to face this along with the fact that the wrong man has followed her to the Fort. She endures the conspiracy meant to harm her and comes out the other side. A good story!
These are fun little quick reads that continue to get better! I’m glad I took a chance and continued after finishing the first, because it was a little underwhelming, but the second and third books in the series have been quite enjoyable.
