I'm in the course. Loving the course, the teacher is wonderful. The book...I think it does a fairly good job making it accessible and easily understandable, not too dry.
I love how simple yet informative the figures are. The explanations are easily understood, also the questions at the end of each chapter are very helpful.
key quotes are "this will be explained later" and "this topic will be covered on chapter x " ma'am I have an exam to study for, this subtle foreshadowing is for other genres, this is a textbook
Many of the standard textbooks of immunology are inaccessible tomes, with so much jargon and terms thrown at the neophyte that is more likely to turn the poor soul away than to invite him/her to the wonderful world of our immune system. Thankfully, this textbook exists to save that almost extinguished enthusiasm, and present the science of immune system with the right amount of details to not overwhelm the beginner, and still convey the most tedious concepts of the field. As Einstein said, "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler." This book hits that sweet spot. So I highly recommend this book to you if you've been intimidated by Immunology earlier by bad teachers or textbooks.
This book is a chore. It's very badly organized. Often times a concept will be introduced and not properly explained. Other times a concept will be glossed over with a promise to discuss it later. This is a horrible book to approach the complex topic of immunology with. Look elsewhere.
Its a good book for beginners because the author has made complex immunology simple while at the same time have added the details to each topic. the chapter wise organization in itself and the excellent figures make it a must read to actually understand the concepts of immunology.
