Leon Jäger has never been one to back down from a fight- but this time, the battlefield is a city that wants nothing to do with him.

When a friend is taken deep into the heart of the elven lands, Leon follows, prepared to carve through whatever stands in his way. But in a nation that reveres bloodlines and the purity of spirit, his very existence is an offense. Among ancient grudges and political schemes, he must navigate a treacherous game where words cut deeper than swords- and where his every step risks sparking conflict.

Yet the elves are not the only ones watching. The gods themselves play their own game, and Leon is beginning to understand just how high the stakes truly are. His path has always been one of strength and willpower, but as the weight of fate presses down, he must will he bend, or will he break?

Spirit’s Call continues the epic journey of Will of the Immortals, weaving intrigue, brutal combat, and the ever-growing realization that some battles can’t be won with a blade alone.

Such an entertaining read. I’ve been posting the RoyalRoad and Patreon world but happily joined the real world to get my hands on Krauss’ latest work.

I’m here for it all!!! Having missed Hannah’s quirky behaviour, Lin Mah’s graciousness, Kaitlyn’s fiesty spirit, Soren’s innocence and Leon’s heart and honour.

The group working together for sweet, sweet Elzbeth. Finding out who dared ti kidnap her and force her to do the unthinkable!

What a trip!!!!

I love this crew and I am already impatient for the following book!

Incredibly jarring inconsistency in tone

I've really enjoyed the series but this one missed the mark. over and over within the book we hear about how everyone thinks what is planned for Elzbeth is disgusting and they'll do anything to stop it. then however, anytime they find something out they go to the restaurant and have a nice meal and sit around for the rest of the night. then they start the next day, meet someone new who swears that it's disgusting what's going to happen to Elzbeth and they won't stop until she's safe only for this cycle to repeat. they learn fairly early on who has their friend in captivity only for them to make no plan and do very little about it. this culminates in the night where they know the ceremony is going to happen with Lin Mah spending the night sorting Leon's inventory? Hannah and Soren are nowhere to be found. also nowhere to be found is ramora who has guild arbiter is nominally the impetus behind this quest. possibly just drinking at the tavern doing God knows what? only Leon and grabber head to the church and make any attempt to save their friend.

So you have a whole cast of characters who are claiming to care about their friend being kidnapped only for them to do almost nothing about it. it leaves you feeling like everyone but Leon doesn't actually give a shit and is just being performative. Even Leon doesn't seem to have any sense of urgency even though it's clear to everyone that if they don't stop this ceremony, their friend will be a slave for life to someone who doesn't care about her. at no point is there any genuine attempt to plan and at no point does the party come together to try and stop this.

this inconsistency between urgency to save their friend and dithering around town, eating large meals, and living in comfort is incredibly jarring. The previous books managed to stay on Pace and with a consistent tone but this one was anything but consistent and made it really annoying for me to read as I kept wondering why they all pretended to care when clearly they don't. Even Leon's famous desire to be free and to do what he wants and what he feels needs to be done is easily thrown out the window for the first time because the patron demands that he take part in a game, he has no wish to play and was given no option or freedom of choice to. and it makes him feel like a hypocrite who's willing to abandon a core principal for more power.

overall, this book makes all of the characters seem insincere in both their beliefs and in their friendships

legitimately difficult to finish.

I made it about halfway through and there are some plot points that just kick my suspension of disbelief out the window. It came a a huge shock as I love this series. To try not to spoil anything it seems like a bunch of thing are retroactively changed. While I’m not against this in principle the delivery is like switching into park while doing 60 on the highway. Additionally it seems to completely subsume the plot. Suddenly a specific character pops out of no where and is like a loan shark for much of the rest of the book. Unfortunately this character is playing the wizened master. However we already have one of those and this guy is super secretive and mysterious. This might work but 1 my suspension of disbelief is broken so mysterious vibe just come off as meaningless and 2 I don’t care at all about the new character. Why is he here? Why should I even care. I’m super invest in the characters that you spent 3 books setting up and then just out the window for this guy that I don’t care at all about. Anyways if you’re reading this your a good author so I’m looking forward to how you tie this together in the next book.

Main character loses all agency. He's a puppet on strings after this book. He rails against it for about one chapter then plays the good puppy. The author decided to invent an entire new conflict and our MC is just a puppy who gets ripped from everything built up into some random ass conflict no one has ever talked about or even cares about. It's not in his nature to just accept this and leave everyone behind but he does.

The author decided the MC doesn't get to be a fire cultivator and is now alone in a forest with none of his 3 books of relationships. I mean he just fucking formed a bond with 3 of his party and instantly gets pulled away in a way he would have never accepted.

The author should have started another series if he wanted a lone wolf story where the MC has to run from every fight and has to fight other "champions" of gods we have never heard about in a "grand game" we have never once been told about. This isn't fucking Fate/stay night or some shit. I did not sign up for a battle royal story.

The MC gets told about the grand game. Says he's not anyone's toy for any game. The god laughs and that's legit all the protesting he EVER does. He's NEVER been submissive like this.

excellent installment in the series well worth the five stars.

This book had everything that was missing for the last book a little more character, growth and development, should be a bit more in the power progression area. This book might have alleviated that situation toward the end. List of series and books were a lot longer. But I’ll take four books a year if I have to. Wish the audible books would come out a little bit faster, would like to add them to my collection. Love the MC and all his associate characters that accompany him. Fun fast paced well written. You can’t go wrong by reading this series and this book. I will probably go to Patreon to look for future chapters of the series, well worth it.

not much different from the 2nd book (2nd half). But knew that before starting the book, due to the way book 3 ended. So pretty boring really. Knew that gods were at play in his life just from all the weird stuff that he does and is, just in this book a few names are now associated with it. Knowing that nothing happens to the MC in the end (else no more books) really makes any possible tense situation or fight scene meaningless. I also felt as though some of the interactions with the gods make it feel as though what is going on right now really is meaningless. He isn't really even started on his way and 4 books are done.

small but mighty

Sprites, little powerhouses of Qi, just running around free—until one gets abducted and taken to a city of snooty elves, and the whole world has to suffer because of all the sprites out there, the overpowered Indomitable Knight had to be friends with that one.

Enlightenment with a side order of butt kicking. Also some more universal truths revealed. Wonder what the System has to do with cultivation, is it a tool or the master?

lost his way

I hate when writers build a character then they make them do something stupid totally against the character beliefs and intelligence. The only reason for this is because the writer doesn’t know how to keep the story going or thinks the readers are stupid. I will never read any of these books again. Which sucks because I liked all the books before this but don’t treat me like an idiot

Predictable

A reasonably fun read, but lacking any qualities to stand out in my memory. I found every twist to be expected, excluding the Champion reveal - that lacked foreshadowing. It isn't bad, and I suspect that I will read the next one in its first week. But I won't remember to mention this to my friends.

Simplistic

The story wasn't natural. You could see from the very first chapter where the author wanted to end up, and so everything after was shoehorned in to make that work.
Characters have no nuance. The only bad guys were politicians and clergy. The righteous main character just wanted to protect his friends. It was boring and predictable.

This is a great series. Solid character development, story progression, and a good balance of plot and character development with all the fast-paced action adventure you might be seeking

Ending is frustrating

Getting tired of authors not even doing a cliffhanger, just not completing a book. It's enough to make me not want to come back until the series is done, but we all know these days that completing a series is usually the last thing on an author's mind.

Great

Great story. Great writing. This made #1 in the LGBTQ+ community on Amazon and you can see why it is inclusive without being ham fisted about it. Great Author and a great story. Can't wait to see what else is in store for Leon and friends.

Loved it!

A great story. I suck at reviews. Anyway, still love all the characters. Great action, I love Leon and Soren kicking ass! I loved the Mothers tree, not the elfs! The Dwarves were cool though! Thanks Mr. Krauss for another fun story! Can hardly wait to see what's next!

I don’t know what it is about this style of writing but I am a big fan. I wasn’t a big fan of gaming growing up but it works for this book. He’s a likable protagonists that everything seems to go right for.

Great light reading

I read this book in two days and enjoyed it throughly. If you've been enjoying this series, you'll enjoy this book too.

I do wish we spent a bit more time on the politics of the area, but that's not really what this series is about.

Great continuation

Great continuation of the series. Got to see more development of the characters , and skills. Wanted to see more on the crafting side , as Leon has skills in that area but overall highly recommend

Well I can sum up this book in a few words. first it's turning into a Royal Road book and that echo chamber.

This book is filler, to summit up it's Leon running around dealing with the Church because of authorities will not. Oh and saving the Princess plot yet again.

This is the fourth in a series and if anything it’s gotten better. This is one one of the best in this genre.

Still good

Kick-ass action with a understandable protagonist. Oddly touching, and poignant moments as well.
Some red-herrings and plot wedges but still a fantastic read.
