A close friend of Dean, who travelled across the country with the young actor in 1954 presents one hundred twenty-five previously unpublished photographs and relates their intimate and provocative conversations
I picked this book up to prepare myself for the movie 'Life' that will be filmed in 2014 about the trip that Stock and Dean made together. Just wanted to know what to expect of the movie and get an idea of Stock's work as a photographer. I always loved Dean, I've watched all his movies and some more than once, but I never knew about the friendship between Stock and Dean, so this book definitely taught me a few things.
I absolutely love the 'introduction' and the 'Fairmount' part of the book, very interesting and promising. There were many details there and you could feel the start of a friendship, but after the first two chapters suddenly there were mostly photographs, beautiful ones I must say, but no more details and only facts. I was not so interested in the places Dean visited, but more about the person he was and how Stock saw/experienced him. Such a shame.... I hope in the movie 'Life' they will do a better job, because I'm sure there is a lot to tell.
Over all I enjoyed the book and especially the beautiful photographs. A recommendation for all Dean's fans and the people interested in the upcoming movie 'Life'.
