With gripping suspense, supernatural intrigue, and unforgettable characters, The Beasts of Blood and Spirit is a pulse-pounding thriller that will keep you hooked until the final, chilling page.

Luka Jacobs has done it again. After the death of his mother, Ethan moves from Chicago to live with his grandmother in a small town in Maine. As if that wasn't stressful enough for his 12 year old self, a vicious predator stalks the surroundings.
Jacobs takes her time, setting up the story, getting the reader acquainted with the characters and the feel of the town. The tension and terror build up slowly and it works oh so very well. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed all books by this author, but her writing continues to progress. The characters, the dialogue, the dynamics; they're all very realistic. The storytelling is wonderful and it keeps making you come back for more. The relatively short chapters help in that regard as well...on the other hand, when you keep on saying to yourself 'just one more chapter', you find your nights are becoming shorter than they should. So yes, Luka T. Jacobs, it blame you for my lack of sleep. 😉 Another dash of mystery was added to this book, which was intriguing and kept me wondering the entire time.
Another definite winner by this author and I can't wait to see what'll be next.
The good: The creature! The dogman isn’t a full-moon morphing simp, he’s a complete baddie 100% of the time. Dogman loves the hunt, the chase, even teasing and tormenting his prey. The confrontation moments are especially enjoyable. (The delinquents with fireworks in the barn is a prime example.) A fully rendered character worthy of a horror series.
The bad: The dialogue is abysmal, full of sappy sentiment, fake humor, and cliche comments/responses. The overall tone is a bit amateurish.
The ugly: The dogmans targeting of the boy, the house, or the hidden artifact is never revealed. The found artifact, its location and movement, feels like a wayward distraction or a plot line that was abandoned.
Four stars for the action sequences and creature appearances. But I probably will not pursue subsequent volumes. Cannot recommend.
This was actually a good read about a kid whose mother had passed away and he wouldn't live with his grandmother and a dog named start showing app and the local sheriff decides to get help. He calls in the FB. I Brady and Jacoby, who are experts at this kind of thing. They a lot of people end up getting hurt firefighter A. Bird, which is probably a raven ends up talking every time. There's danger to one people and then come to find out that a tooth that her daughter had taken her boyfriend and found that was the cause of everything, finally, at the end. Jacoby took off running after the dog man after he was hurt. Pretty good and baretti came up with the sheriff and she shot shot it in the dump dead so now the town can heal.
We were all eagerly awaiting the release on Luka’s FB page and I gotta say, it was definitely worth it. Read it over two nights. Loved the added direction she went into (without giving away spoilers)., that add a whole new level of creepy. I think with each book she is stepping up her already awesome game. I’m invested in Beretti and Jacobi’s partnership now. Maybe a squatch next?
Couldn’t put the book down. I’m really enjoying how each story is unique. The author is getting incredibly good with her writing and details. You really picture and feel the ambience of the story as you’re reading it. I felt like I was in the room during the night of storm and was trying to decide what to do right along with the characters. Looking forward, as always, to the next installment!
The story is about saving your community from a huge animal, that most people have never Heard of. A twelve year old boy lost his mother and had to move in with his grandmother That he has never met. Her boyfriend's is the local Sherrifand something it killing a lot Of chickens, cattle and making mess of stuff. This is not a child story it is way to gory for that. But it was a very good interesting book to read.
The Beasts Of Blood and Spirit by Luka T. Jacobs is a superior follow-up to the fledgling Nicole Beretti cryptid horror series.
The FBI cryptid hunting team of Nicole Beretti and Noah Jacobi is starting to grow on me. I enjoy their character development and witty banter. I know this is the third appearance of Agent Beretti, but it seems to me the two agents share equal footing as far as time in the book. I know its a "Nicole Beretti" series but I enjoy both agents equally and I don't see one getting more time than the other.
This book is the first time Jacobs has added a supernatural element to the story. It didn't go in the direction I was thinking when I heard about this before the book was released. I feel the supernatural angle was the weakest part of the story, but not terrible by any means.
This is the third time we have seen Agent Beretti and also the third Dogman she has tackled. This time the creature was just as vicious as in the previous two stories. Jacobs does not shy away from the blood and gore and I love that about her books.
I can see Jacobs maturing as a writer in each new novel she writes. Her characters are wonderful and you can really relate to them. She has turned out to be one of my favorite writers I am reading right now. I absolutely love cryptid horror and Jacobs is making her way to the head of the pack. I can't wait to see what she cooks up next.
Again, Ms. Jacobs does not disappoint. With her usual flair for the English language, and imaginative plot-weaving, she hit it out of the park yet again. Who would have thought a crow would turn out to be such a significant character? Can't wait for the next one. (Please, let there be a next one)
Reading this book and the previous Dogman, both brought back memories of B rated horror films. I could see the whole story in my mind. I enjoyed the characters (especially the kids who always seem to make stories scarier ) and my two favorite/funny FBI Agents.
The storyline flowed nicely, with a slightly different take on the werewolf line. Relationship of the personalities was well brought together. Very good edge of your seat progression without the hint of how the end would come.
This was a really well written story. I read everything I can get my hands on by this author. As a kid you are scared of monsters , monsters that later you discover aren't real. This lady makes you wonder if you weren't fit the first time around...
Luka delivers yet another page turner! A good book, to me, keeps me up late at night and calls to me first thing in the morning and this did just that!
I really liked this book. The characters were so real I felt like I knew them. The Dogman was so creepy, I felt like I was part of the story. Very well done.
