I didn’t connect with Curry as much as I had with other Indian cookbooks, like the Soul of Spice. Curry is expansive in the recipes covered, and there were lots of things I would like to make, but somehow it felt more like work than fun from looking at the recipes. There were a number of ingredients I’d really have to search out here in France, which is a bummer, but it comes with the territory. I’m sure it would be easier in the UK or US. I did feel the book gave you a good base to mix and match elements from different recipes to create your own curries, and that was fun.
Maunika Gowardhan’s latest cookbook is a warm, inviting celebration of real Indian home cooking. It’s the kind of cookbook that makes you want to roll up your sleeves and cook for people you love and would make a great companion for those gatherings you might want to host.
I love the regional diversity in the recipe selection and the instructions are clear and well-structured, starting from understanding spices to cooking techniques. This is great for anyone who isn’t seasoned with Indian cooking. There’s also a great selection across different meats and vegetarian options.
For anyone who loves the warmth of Indian food and wants to bring it into their daily kitchen, this book is a gem. There’s nothing quite like Indian home cooked meals and this book offers you a chance at creating that. Loving my little collection of cookbooks from Maunika so far and can confirm all the recipes I’ve tried have been delicious. Recommend!
