Word Witch: How to Call Upon and Cultivate the Creative Magic Within You

Rate this book
Word Witches are spellcasters of language. They are storytellers, poets, writers, and ritualists who know that writing anything is a form of spirits, ancestors, collective dreams, and their most authentic and surprising selves. Word Witch is a joyful guide and companion, helping writers build a creative practice rooted in magic.

Writer and witch Kate Belew offers readers an invitation to craft altars of language, offering simple writing rituals that will spark inspiration and equip writers to build their own thriving creative writing practice. Readers will learn to conjure creativity and imagination, defy the silence of writer's block, build a circle of community support, and cast spells that spread magic across the page. Much like the movements of the moon and the earth's seasons, creativity also has cycles that readers will learn to expect and embrace. Word Witch encourages creatives to reclaim their imagination and give themselves permission to write freely, expressively, and magically.

Weaving together magic and creativity, paying homage to the intrinsic power of words to conjure and shape our lives, Word Witch guides readers across the page as they undergo the alchemy of becoming of writers.

Absolutely stunning! ✨♥️🔥 I loved every minute of this book, which was poetry and magic on every page. As a listener of the Magick & Alchemy podcast, I knew I needed to read this book. As an editor, writer, and all around magical person I hoped to enjoy this, and was pleasantly surprised by how much it resonated! 👻 I wholly appreciate the interconnectedness of wild and feral words, artistic creativity, and the immense power of storytelling and how it unfolds. Indeed Kate Belew, writing is magic. It is conjuring, it is ritual in whatever form it takes, song, mantra, journaling, poetry, or writing a book. Welcoming, allowing and embracing your inner word witch can imbue your writing with more creative intention and Shakti, deep from the core elements, from energy and spirit. Ohhh how I plan to circle back to this book, this invitation and keep exploring the beautiful possibilities prompted within. Love, love, love.

I have been looking for a book, a guide, a path for re-igniting my writing practice, and this book did it for me. It helped me look at writing through the lens of my spirituality (paganism) and my practice (witchcraft). I was able to connect deeply with the writing prompts, the reflections, the ideas presented. Thanks to following the Word Witch, I have developed a daily writing practice that I haven't been able to commit to since I was a teenager. This is arguably one of the most important books (to me) that I've read all year.

Words can build someone up, tear them down, and everything in between. Use and choose words wisely, as words can take on a life of their own. Kate Belew shares the power of words and how to use them to deepen one's practice, gain insight, and honor the elements. This book is packed full of the beauty of words as well as examination of their power. The author shares examples from life that illustrate the impact words have.

This book is a beautiful ode to the ways in which words shape our thoughts, actions, and lives. It's one I will re-read so that I can savor the language and re-do the exercises, deepening my practice and exploration.

I recommend it for anyone who loves words as I do.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book honestly surprised me in the best way. Word Witch feels like sitting down with a friend who reminds you why you ever wanted to write in the first place. It’s not just about creativity, it’s about reconnecting with yourself and finding a bit of magic in everyday words. The exercises are simple but they actually get you thinking and feeling inspired instead of overwhelmed. I found myself jotting down ideas in the margins and feeling excited to create again. It’s one of those books I’ll be keeping close by whenever I need a little creative spark.

Word Witch is a spellbook for storytellers, poets, and dreamers who know words carry spirit and power. Kate Belew weaves rituals of language that ignite creativity, banish writer’s block, and transform writing into sacred practice. This book feels like sitting in circle with a coven of muses guiding you to conjure imagination, honor the cycles of creativity, and write with freedom and magic. I wholeheartedly recommend it to all my witchy, magic loving kin who want to weave spells with their words and let their writing become ritual.

❤️‍🔥☄️🪻 Inspiring, comforting, magical. Listened to the audiobook, which is read by author Kate Belew, who I’ve been a fan of for a while now, while annotating a hard copy. I was hoping I’d love her published work and I’m happy to say I’ll return to it again and again throughout the year for writing prompts, wisdom, and solace.
