This book is a must for any Esperanto-speaker. It covers the various handed-down myths and misinformation that Esperanto-speakers think they "know" about Esperanto. In particular it also speaks to the ways that Esperanto-speakers try to convince/inform others about Esperanto -- how to avoid exaggerating, giving misinformation, seeming fanatical, etc. (Things that were more rampant before this book was published.) It also is is a good starting point for learning some of the history of Esperanto.

The book is highly professional, very academic in fact -- it is filled with footnotes (so the author does practice what he preaches!).

I read the first edition. A second edition was published in 2003, which I understand is significantly updated and, I hear, much better. (And I highly enjoyed the original; so I hope to read the second edition someday.)

Tre interesa informriĉa longa densa libro. Supozebla temas pri kiel informadi pli efike kaj vere pri Esperanto, sed ankaŭ bone funkcias simple kiel bona superrigardo de la historio, kulturo, ktp de Esperanto, kun emfazo sur detruado de persistaj falsaj mitoj. Iuj el la klasikaj mitoj ja estas tiom komike absurdaj, ke la libroj fojfoje ridigis min per la lerta dismitigado. Multaj piednotoj kaj fontoj. Kelkaj tajeraroj kaj fojfoje strangaj subjektivaj diraĵoj aperas inter la multaj faktoj, sed tio ne tre ĝenis. Certe leginda informa fojfoje amuza libro!
