The mayor of New Paltz, New York, and a passionate advocate for human rights shares his vision for the future of American democracy, one that argues that opportunities--from marriage and higher education to affordable housing and renewable energy sources--should be available to everyone, while presenting a blueprint for everyday activism and community involvement.
I bought this and read it when Jason West came to town for a book signing. I totally support the ideals represented in the book, and think Jason did some great stuff (by getting into office, and beyond). But I must say the book was a disappointment to me. It was easy to read, had a few interesting passages, but lacked depth. Maybe it's better for a political newbie (or maybe my memory is failing me). I would definitely recommend it to folks with 'progressive' interests, particularly those just exploring their ideological bents.
This was an interesting and optimistic book about politics that doesn't just rail against our current form of election and government, but offers viable solutions. I kind of want to join the green party after reading this.
