Operation Redgill

Rate this book
When an underground government facility’s genetic experiments escape into the sewer systems, a Texas town’s unsuspecting populace become their menu. Mutant sharks with forelimbs instead of fins, capable of crawling on land, these creatures require human blood to breathe air. The military’s answer? Operation Redgill.

A story ripe for the B-movie market, Operation Redgill delivers satirical humor without sacrificing the dramatic weight and intense thrills of such a disaster, along with the gruesome consequences.

I very much enjoyed this book! I expected a goofy “B-movie” because well duh it’s about mutant sharks and that’s the reason I picked it, but it exceeded all expectations. It was extremely well written and kept me well entertained the entire time. It has a good amount of humor to counteract the horrors of what this team comes across. I loved it!

Thanks to the author and Goodreads for an opportunity to read this ebook.

The description for this book sums it up nicely. For those with interest in military operations, have the stomach for a bit of gore, and appreciate humor, this delivered!

Honestly, this was not great. It wanted to be a B-movie, but with some heart and soul, and I don’t think it managed any of that. We join a rag tag military team assigned to fight genetically altered sharks loose in an American town, and as expected things go wrong. There’s loss and fighting, and a semi happy ending, and if that’s good enough for you, stop here. If you’re alright with spoilers, carry on.

One of my biggest complaints here was the fact that despite being centered in more modern times, we had the R word tossed out like it was nothing. It’s only once, but doesn’t fit any of the characters as presented, and does nothing for the story like it might as a representation of the timeline in another. Huge no.

While I understand suspending your sense of reality for the story, a guy got his arm bitten off, got some first aid on the fly, and just kept going. Including walking across rooftops, climbing stairs, etc. it’s just not realistic on any level.

Overall, it’s a whole story. There’s a beginning, middle, and and end. It wanted to run where Jaws walked, and it just couldn’t. Two stars is rolled up from 1.5.
